Now a Twenty20 gun for hire, Brendon McCullum will return to Lord's to lead the MCC against Afghanistan in July.

Lord's will become a home away from home for former New Zealand cricket captain Brendon McCullumin coming months.

McCullum, currently playing the Indian Premier League, has been confirmed as captain of the Marylebone Cricket Club team to host Afghanistan in a historic 50-over match at the home of cricket on July 11.

He'll also be based at the London venue for another Twenty20 season with Middlesex, having signed to play nine matches for the county he turned out for last year.

One of Afghanistan's cricket stars Mohammad Nabi will make a rare appearance at Lord's in July.

It willbe Afghanistan's first match at Lord's, and will be played onthe pitch being used for the England v South Africa test match, which is scheduled to finish a day earlier.

A similar fixture last year saw MCC beaten by Nepal in front of a crowd of nearly 6000 at Lord's.

Two of the associate nation's star players, Mohammad Nabi and Hamid Hassan, were both part of the MCC young cricketers program.

MCC president Matthew Fleming said: "It is the latest landmark on a very exciting journey for Afghan cricket, and MCC will need to field an extremely strong side in order to compete.

"We are delighted therefore that Brendon McCullum will captain MCC, as he will ensure the match is both competitive and exciting, played in the very best spirit."
