U.S. Embassy Statement on the Womens Dormitory of Herat University

On Monday, February 2, the Embassy of the United States of America in Kabul, the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan and Herat University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the new womens dormitory at Herat University. Financed by the United States Forces Afghanistan and built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at $5.27 million, the dormitory is a modern facility that will house more than 370 female students in a safe environment while they pursue higher education. International Ice Bagging Systems, LLC (IIBS), a Chicago-based business, which manufactures the Eco-Ice System, and AZ Corporation, an Afghan based company, headquartered in Kabul, recently concluded a multi-year, multi-million dollar deal that will enable AZ to add bagged ice production to its existing portfolio of products and services, and provide valuable jobs to Afghans.

The U.S. Embassy welcomes todays nomination of the Cabinet of Ministers by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. The United States looks forward to continued close cooperation with the government of Afghanistan in our shared pursuit of security, peace and prosperity for the people of Afghanistan.

On January 12, U.S. Embassy Kabul announced the open application season for the world-class Fulbright Masters and PhD Programs. Fulbright is the U.S. Department of States flagship educational exchange program. The program in Afghanistan, one of the largest in the world, seeks to place qualified Afghans in Masters and Ph.D. degree programs at educational institutions across the United States.
