Al Sharpton to blame for police shootings, actor James Woods tweets

NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Actor James Woods offered strong words for civil rights activist and television pundit Al Sharpton on Twitter, accusing the Baptist minister of inspiring the murder of two New York police officers by leading protests against police violence.

After a three month absence from Twitter, Woods returned to the social media platform to blast Sharpton, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Obama administration.

In a tweet, Woods asserted Sharpton was "directly responsible" for the deaths of officer Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, who were fatally shot while sitting in their patrol car on Saturday.

Woods has since continued to criticizing Sharpton, whom Woods accuses of being a "race-hustler."

Despite Woods' strong words for Sharpton, the Once Upon a Time in America star also tweeted support for Emerald Garner, daughter of Eric, after she called for solidarity between those who demonstrate against police violence and the police whose culture demonstrators seek to change.

Woods' "long time" friend and political opposite Alec Baldwin took to Twitter to address Woods' rant, but Woods said he chose ignore Baldwin's comments for the sake of their friendship.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said Woods had deleted the tweet where he says Sharpton is "directly responsible" for the murder of the policemen. Woods did not delete the tweet.
