Aziz Ansari Nominates Himself to be the Brown Al Sharpton

When Aziz Ansari decided to take on Rupert Murdoch for suggesting that all Muslims should held responsible for extremist attacks, he became an unlikely voice for underrepresented people everywhere. Last night, the comedian told David Letterman he wants to take his advocacy to the next level by becoming the brown Al Sharpton.

If you say something racist about black people or something, you immediately have to go set up this meeting with Al Sharpton, Ansari explained. He described it as punishment of sorts for saying the wrong thing, with the hardest part being arranging the travel. The phony conversation they have is nothing.

In the last year alone, this was true of everyone from former L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling to Sony Pictures head Amy Pascal, as well as anyone who was responsible for snubbing Selma at the Oscars.

The problem is, brown people dont have a guy, he continued. Im throwing my hat in the ring, Im the brown Al Sharpton.

Letterman worried that people might start saying racist things just so they can meet the comedian.

Well, theyll have to be pretty creative with their racism, Ansari said.
