Bridgeport Mayor Threatened After Appearing With Al Sharpton On MSNBC

BRIDGEPORT The mayor received threats after appearing on MSNBC on Monday, a city spokesman said.

Mayor Bill Finch appeared on the show PoliticsNation for an interview about the weather conditions in the city during the blizzard.

According to city spokesman Brett Broesder, Finch thanked the show's host, Rev. Al Sharpton, for his leadership on climate change following the interview.

"Since the interview, Mayor Finch has received many supportive notes from the community. Unfortunately, he has also received very aggressive correspondence from what seemingly are a combination of science deniers and racists from across the country," Broesder said in a statement.

Broesder said some of those correspondence included threats against the mayor and his family. One case is being investigated by city police.

Police Chief Joseph Gaudett said in statement that the department is taking the threat "very seriously."
