WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Citizens for Judicial Fairness and Reverend Al Sharpton applauded President Joe Bidens groundbreaking nomination of current Delaware Supreme Court Justice Tamika Montgomery-Reeves to the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals. The nomination epitomizes Bidens ongoing commitment to equity and excellence on the nations highest courts, and draws attention back to Delaware, where Montgomery-Reeves departure will leave the states Supreme Court and Chancery Court with zero Black justices for the first time since 2015.

Said civil rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton, Justice Tamika Montgomery-Reeves will be an excellent addition to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. I continue to be impressed with President Bidens steadfast commitment to diversifying our nations highest courts and ensuring that they look like the people they represent. But Montgomery-Reeves departure from the Supreme Court means that unless she is replaced with a Black justice, Delawares two top courts the Supreme Court and Chancery Court will both be all-white. Thats unacceptable any time, but even more so in 2022 when Delawares own son Joe Biden has put diversity front and center in his judicial nominations.

Governor Carney has a chance once again to take a step in the right direction and ensure that there is at least one Black justice on Delawares top courts I urge him to do so and avoid subjecting Delawareans to courts that dont look like them and cant possibly deliver them the justice they deserve.
