*On Saturday, two NYPD police officers were shot and killed, or as Police Commissioner Bill Bratton put it, they were assassinated. The suspect, 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley, approached the passenger window of a marked police car and opened fire, striking both Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in the head.

Earlier, Brinsley wrote on an Instagram account: Im putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours, lets take 2 of theirs, officials said. He used the hashtags Shootthepolice RIPErivGardner (sic) RIPMikeBrown.

Rev. Al Sharpton of course, who has been counseling the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown, didnt waste any time publicly disavowing any link between the families, himself and the shooter, Ismaaiyl Brinsley.

I have spoken to the Garner family and we are outraged by the early reports of the police killed in Brooklyn today, Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases.

We have stressed at every rally and march that anyone engaged in any violence is an enemy to the pursuit of justice for Eric Garner and Michael Brown. We have been criticized at National Action Network for not allowing rhetoric or chanting of violence and would abruptly denounce it at all of our gatherings. The Garner family and I have always stressed that we do not believe that all police are bad, in fact we have stressed that most police are not bad.

We plan to hold a press conference in the morning to express our outrage and our condolences to the families and the police department. Details to follow.

Reverend Al Sharpton, President, National Action Network

Sharpton also announced that on Sunday (12-21-14) he will be joined by the widow and mother of Eric Garner for a press conference at the National Action Network (NAN) headquarters to denounce the killing of the two NYPD officers and any connection of Eric Garners name to any violence. The Garner family will offer prayer to the families of the slain officers. Rev. Sharpton will then preach and lead a prayer service for the officers and the healing of the city at St. Luke Baptist church in Harlem.
