Rev. Al Sharpton to begin count down to Dec. 13 rally with visit to Staten Island on Saturday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Rev. Al Sharpton will be kicking off a week-long count down to his national march against police violence in Washington D.C. at the site of Eric Garner's death in Tompkinsville at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Sharpton will be joined by Benjamin Crump, the attorney representing the families of Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin, two African-American teens killed by police in recent incidents.

Garner died on Victory Boulevard and Bay Street, across from Tompkinsville Park.

The march was announced on Wednesday night, following the grand jury decision not to indict Daniel Pantaleo, the police officer accused in Garner's death, when Rev. Al Sharpton and Garner's family vowed to keep fighting for justice in this and related cases.

Sharpton and Garner's mother, Gwen Carr, will pay their respects at services for Akai Gurley Friday night. Gurley was unarmed when he was killed by a rookie police officer in Brooklyn last month.
