WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- On Friday, the Department of Defense said a soldier with the 82nd Airborne Division died in Afghanistan.
According to the Army, Spc. Brian K. Arsenault, 28, of Northborough, Massachusetts, died Sept. 4, in Ghazni, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when his unit was engaged by enemy small-arms fire.
Arsenault was a member of 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
His family spoke with reporters on Friday and his father, reading a statement called his son "a vibrant, free spirit that has forever touched so many lives."
According to his family, Arsenault had been in Afghanistan since January and was scheduled to come home in November.
