Sharpton: I got death threats after NYPD cops were executed

Its all about him.

The Rev. Al Sharpton claimed Sunday that hes received death threats in the wake of execution-style murders of two NYPD officers in Brooklyn.

Sharpton, appearing alongside the wife and mother of Eric Garner, played a voicemail for reporters purportedly of a racist threat made against him.

Hey n-r, stop killing innocent people, Im going to get you! according to the barely audible recording.

The voice mail also included three f-bombs that went over live television in New York.

Sharpton also took umbrage with police union leaders who have blamed Mayor de Blasio for allegedly inciting violence against cops.

NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were gunned down in cold blood as they sat in their patrol car on Saturday in Brooklyn.

To blame the mayor and others is not what we need, Sharpton said. The blame game will only lead to further kinds of venom and further division.

Sharpton urged protesters and police critics to remain peaceful.

If we go into an area where its eye for an eye, then it is only a matter of who can out pluck eyes rather than who can make the system fair for everybody, he said. We have in every rally and march been very clear in stressing of nonviolence. We even would stop rhetoric that was wrong.

Rev. Al Sharpton Responds to Double NYPD Shooting in Brooklyn

*On Saturday, two NYPD police officers were shot and killed, or as Police Commissioner Bill Bratton put it, they were assassinated. The suspect, 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley, approached the passenger window of a marked police car and opened fire, striking both Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in the head.

Earlier, Brinsley wrote on an Instagram account: Im putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours, lets take 2 of theirs, officials said. He used the hashtags Shootthepolice RIPErivGardner (sic) RIPMikeBrown.

Rev. Al Sharpton of course, who has been counseling the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown, didnt waste any time publicly disavowing any link between the families, himself and the shooter, Ismaaiyl Brinsley.

I have spoken to the Garner family and we are outraged by the early reports of the police killed in Brooklyn today, Any use of the names of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, in connection with any violence or killing of police, is reprehensible and against the pursuit of justice in both cases.

We have stressed at every rally and march that anyone engaged in any violence is an enemy to the pursuit of justice for Eric Garner and Michael Brown. We have been criticized at National Action Network for not allowing rhetoric or chanting of violence and would abruptly denounce it at all of our gatherings. The Garner family and I have always stressed that we do not believe that all police are bad, in fact we have stressed that most police are not bad.

We plan to hold a press conference in the morning to express our outrage and our condolences to the families and the police department. Details to follow.

Sharpton also announced that on Sunday (12-21-14) he will be joined by the widow and mother of Eric Garner for a press conference at the National Action Network (NAN) headquarters to denounce the killing of the two NYPD officers and any connection of Eric Garners name to any violence. The Garner family will offer prayer to the families of the slain officers. Rev. Sharpton will then preach and lead a prayer service for the officers and the healing of the city at St. Luke Baptist church in Harlem.

Rev. Al Sharpton, president of the National Action Network, canceled an appearance Sunday in North Charleston to celebrate Charity Missionary Baptist Church's 100th anniversary.

Sharpton cited the fatal shootings Saturday of two New York City police officers as the reason he could not attend Sunday's celebration, according to spokeswoman Trudy Grant.

The 100th anniversary service is still scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the church, 1544 East Montague Ave., and Sharpton will call in at 5:30 p.m. to express his regrets and give more insight about what is going on in New York, Grant said.

His speech will be rescheduled for sometime at the end of January.

The church's pastor, Rev. Nelson B. Rivers III, joined the National Action Network's senior staff in June as vice president of religious affairs and external relations. The civil-rights organization aims to reverse gun violence.

Critics Of Al Sharpton Seize On Killings Of Two NYPD Officers, Point Fingers At The Reverend

Critics of the Rev. Al Sharpton seized on the killings of two New York City Police officers Saturday, blaming the civil rights leader for provoking an anti-police mentality in the wake of the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Sharpton immediately denounced Saturday's apparent execution-style shootings and denied any link to the cases of Brown and Garner, two black men who were separately killed by white officers this year.

"I have spoken to the Garner family and we are outraged by the early reports of the police killed in Brooklyn today [Saturday]," Sharpton said in a statement. "We have stressed at every rally and march that anyone engaged in any violence is an enemy to the pursuit of justice. The Garner family and I have always stressed that we do not believe that all police are bad, in fact we have stressed that most police are not bad."

Eric Garner died in Staten Island in July after an officer put him in a choke hold. Although the move is illegal in New York, a grand jury cleared Officer Daniel Pantaleo of all potential charges Dec. 3. The acquittal set off protests nationwide and prompted Sharpton to call for a federal civil rights investigation. In demonstrations, protesters held up signs accusing the NYPD of racism and calling for Pantaleo to be punished.

The suspect in Saturday's shooting, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, had indicated online he was planning to kill police officers in retaliation for Garner's death, according to media reports. "I'm putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours, let's take 2 of theirs," the guman wrote on his Instagram account, adding hashtags that mentioned Garner and Brown, officials said.

A White House official said President Barack Obama has been brief on the Brooklyn shooting. "White House officials continue to monitor the situation," the statement said.

Even before the shooter and his motives were identified, Sharpton detractors began pointing fingers at the reverend. "We have two dead police officers, and I guess Al Sharpton got what he wanted," retired NYPD detective Harry Houck told CNN. On Twitter, streams of vitriolic comments targeted Sharpton:
