Al Sharptons Girlfriend: Wait, Isnt the Rev Still Married?

Al Sharptons girlfriend Aisha McShaw gets better press lately than he does, just by staying quiet. The 35-year-old stylist and her 60-year-old boyfriend went public last year about their relationship. Since then, hes kept on doing what he does showing up anywhere there is racial unrest and she has no problem telling everyone, Im his girlfriend.

Sharpton was slated to speak at the funeral of Akai Gurley, the Brooklyn man who was killed by NYPD officers. But he has pulled out of the event because some family members reportedly dont want him sensationalizing the funeral.

The Daily Mail has said that Al Sharpton is divorced from his wife Kathy Jordan since 2004. But actually, Sharpton and Jordan never divorced. Sharpton worked as James Browns tour manager in the 1970s. He says Brown took him to his personal stylist and had his hair done up just like the Godfather of Soul. It was through Brown that Sharpton met Jordan, a backup singer.

Sharpton spokesperson Rachel Noerdlinger says that, while Sharpton may not be divorced, he believes he has the right to date.

His exact words to me were, Rachel, Im not announcing an engagement or a marriage, Noerdlinger said. Dont I have a right to date when my marriage has been over for a decade?

Sharpton had long been overweight, but lost over 100 pounds by changing his diet. He is a Baptist minister, and once debated noted atheist Christopher Hitchens

I have to say it in your presence, sir, I think that the title reverend is something people should be more concerned to live down than live up, Hitchens told Sharpton in the debate.

I think you probably had a bad Sunday school teacher, Sharpton replied.

Rev. Al Sharpton Not Welcome At Brooklyn Shooting Victim's Funeral

Reverend Al Sharpton has been accused of exploiting the death of African-American Akai Gurley by one of the deceaseds family members. Her message to him now is a simple one: Stay away.

Gurley was shot and killed on Nov. 20 by a New York city police officer in the stairwell of a Brooklyn housing project. One bullet was shot by officer Peter Liang, striking Gurley in the chest, killing him. The shooting was labeled as an unfortunate accident by NYPD commissioner William Bratton, who added that Gurley was a total innocent.

Gurleys aunt, reportedly speaking for his mother, told TMZ that Sharptons interest in the tragic case if purely for money and political gain.

Al Sharpton came in, put his name on the situation, but has not even made one single call to the parents to Akai, Hertenceia Peterson, Gurleys aunt, said.

Sharpton recently said he plans to deliver a eulogy for Gurley, but Peterson said he is not welcome at the funeral or wake, reports The Blaze.

Sharpton told TMZ he does not view his actions as grandstanding for the cameras and that he was asked to get involved by Akais domestic partner and mother of his daughter, Kimberly Ballinger.

"When Kimberly asked us for help we responded because she had legal standing as his domestic partner and the mother of his child ... who is the next of kin, Sharpton said.

Sharpton said he questions Petersons motives and that he does not know whether she has legal standing to speak for the family.

Sharpton decided to not attend the services because of the dispute among family members, reports CBS New York.

In a statement, Sharpton said he would not attend, after receiving information about an open dispute amongst (Gurleys) family.

The Brooklyn shooting death of Akai Gurley caught the attention of the Rev. Al Sharpton, but at least one member of the family wants him to stay far away.

Hertenceia Peterson, the aunt of Mr. Gurley, told the entertainment website TMZ on Friday that the MSNBC host only sees money and political gain in the situation. Mr. Gurley was shot by a rookie cop, Peter Liang, in a dark stairwell on Nov. 20 and died shortly afterward.

Al Sharpton came in, put his name on the situation, but has not even made one single call to the parents to Akai, Ms. Peterson, who said she also spoke for the dead mans mother, told the website.

A memorial service was held Saturday for Mr. Gurley. Mr. Sharpton did not speak at the Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Brooklyn, although he had originally planned to address those in attendance.

I do not know that this Aunt has legal standing to speak for the family, Mr. Sharpton told TMZ in response to its story.

Mr. Sharpton said he had been invited by Kimberly Ballinger, Mr. Gurleys domestic partner and mother of his 2-year-old daughter.

But he later backed off in an interview with the New York Daily News, sayinghe didnt want to get involved in a dispute in the family.

I dont want to get in the middle of it, he said. I didnt know until today that the mother and the sister and the domestic partner werent together.
