Parents of Michael Brown Jr. to meet with Rev. Al Sharpton …

The legal fight may over in Ferguson, Mo., but the war of words has just begun.

The family of slain teen Michael Brown Jr. and the Rev. Al Sharpton will hold a joint press conference Tuesday in Ferguson, Mo., one day after a St. Louis grand jury chose not to indict Police Officer Darren Wilson in the Aug. 9 shooting.

St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced the decision late Monday, which set off a multistate wave of protest and drew the ire of Brown's mother, Lesley McSpadden, and dad, Michael Brown Sr.

"We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequence of his actions," Brown's parents said in a statement released by attorney Benjamin Crump, Esq. "While we understand that many others share our pain, we ask that you channel your frustration in ways that will make a positive change. We need to work together to fix the system that allowed this to happen."

Sharpton made a striking statement of his own, watching the grand jury decision with the family of Staten Island NYPD chokehold victim Eric Garner. In a statement after the decision was unveiled, Sharpton took aim at McCulloch.

"We said from the beginning we had little or no confidence in this local prosecutor," Sharpton said. "We can lose a round, but the fight is not over."

Brown's parents want officers to wear body cameras and they plan to launch a campaign with the goal of getting cops on the streets using cameras to capture their interaction with the public. Video would have shed light on the deadly confrontation between Wilson and the teen.

"Join with us in our campaign to ensure that every police officer working the streets in this country wears a body camera," the family said.

Wilson, who has been on paid leave since the incident and recently married, also released a statement.

Al Sharpton says no indictment for Darren Wilson 'an absolute blow'

Al Sharpton spoke Monday night after a grand jury announced it would not return an indictment for Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson, describing the decision as an absolute blow to those seeking a fair and open trial.

It was expected, but still an absolute blow to those of us that wanted to see a fair and open trial, the MSNBC host told reporters in Harlem, according to a video posted by Mediaite. I think that it is clear that even when you see a blow coming that you expected, it still hurts nonetheless.

Mr. Sharpton vowed that he and his civil rights group, the National Action Network, will continue to organize and mobilize around the country in calling for the federal government to escalate a federal indictment.

He also announced he would be in Ferguson Tuesday to attend a press conference with Michael Browns parents.

Let it be clear that we are dealing with the same attitudes of Ferguson right here in [New York City]. This is one case. Ferguson is not just in Missouri, Mr. Sharpton said. We can lose a round, but the fight is not over.

Brown family, Al Sharpton to hold press conference addressing grand jury decision

FERGUSON, Mo. -

Smoke billowed from burned-out buildings and sidewalks were strewn with broken glass Tuesday morning after Ferguson erupted over a grand jury's decision not to indict a white police officer in the killing of unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Firefighters were dousing the blackened remains of some businesses and at least one was still ablaze. Some Ferguson stores that weren't burned had smashed display windows, but the streets of the St. Louis suburb were mostly clear.

Monday night's protests were far more destructive than any of those that followed Brown's Aug. 9 death, with more than a dozen businesses badly damaged or destroyed. Authorities reported hearing hundreds of gunshots, which for a time prevented fire crews from fighting the flames.

There were 61 arrests in Ferguson overnight, many for burglary and trespassing, St. Louis County Police spokesman Brian Schellman said. There were 21 arrests in St. Louis, where protesters broke some store windows along South Grand Avenue, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said.

Jon Belmar, chief of the St. Louis County police, said that unless his agency could bring in 10,000 officers, "I don't think we can prevent folks who really are intent on destroying a community."

At least 14 people were injured during the overnight protests, including two people who were admitted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. That hospital treated and released five people. Six people were treated for minor injuries at Christian Hospital, near Ferguson.

Saint Louis University Hospital treated and released another. Other hospitals didn't immediately respond to phone messages and emails seeking comment.

Meanwhile, many Ferguson-area districts cancelled classes out of concern about the safety of getting children to and from school.

The grand jury's decision means that Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, will not face any state criminal charges for killing Brown, whose death inflamed deep racial tensions between many black Americans and police.
