Letter: Alt-right letter rife with false complaints – The Daily Tar Heel

| Published 5 hours ago

TO THE EDITOR:

Dear Chris Watson:

You identify yourself as an alternative right sympathizer and in your letter to the editor complain about all us lefties and intellectual do-gooders suppressing your alternative right views.

That, my friend, is total B.S. That is a tactic that you and your sympathizers have used for a long time.

We lefties or liberals fully endorse your freedom of speech. Remember we are the ones who embrace the Constitution and all the freedoms it allows citizens in our country.

However, your side, my dear, is the side that tries to divide people, tries to insinuate some are not as equal as others, and tries to destroy our democracy, our view that all are equal, all have a voice and hate is not the way to go.

Your side touts less government, but in the same breath, wants government to rule and censor everything including media and our private lives so only your warped view emerges and our rights are destroyed.

I really wish that all of you would spend a couple of years in a country like North Korea or China, where dissenting opinions and protesting can get you in jail, assaulted and/or killed. Then you will truly know what it is like to live in a country with leaders who share your views.

White nationalists, alt-right disappointed by Michael Flynn … – AOL News

Jacob Steinblatt

Feb 14th 2017 7:37AM

White nationalists and "alt-right" commenters on the internet are upset by the sudden resignation of Michael Flynn, President Trump's national security adviser. Flynn, a retired U.S. Army Lt. General, quit late Monday after reports that he'd lied to Vice President Mike Pence and other White House officials over the details of his communication with Russia's ambassador to the United States.

Disappointment over Flynn's resignation, 24 days after assuming the role, was felt widely in internet discussion boards like Stormfront and The Daily Stormer, alt-right outlets. Members blamed everyone from the media, Mike Pence, the intelligence community and Jews.

Andrew Anglin, creator of the neo-Nazi news blog The Daily Stormer offered his own commentary, labeling Flynn as "one of our best guys," and describing the resignation as "definitely a loss. To the Jews." The website's readers agreed, several called Flynn "the kind of person we need on our team," "stand up," and that he was "too pro-white" for the administration.

A prominent "alt-right" news blog edited by white supremacist Richard Spencer also aired its dismay over the news, considering the resignation "a huge mistake."

Michael Flynn was no stranger to controversy prior to his conversation with the Russian ambassador. He used his social media account to spread numerous fake news stories and conspiracy theories relating to Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama.

Milk-chugging alt-right trolls shut down Shia LaBeouf’s art project … – A.V. Club

See all latest Photo: Timothy A. Clary/Getty Photo: Timothy A. Clary/Getty

Last week, Shia LaBeoufs He Will Not Divide Us live-stream was shuttered by Queens Museum of the Moving Image, who cited the serious and ongoing safety hazard associated with so many people, of all political stripes, furiously wanking in a single area. Since it was conceived by the team of LaBeouf, Nastja Sde Rnkk, and Luke Turner as a response to the inauguration of Donald Trump, the performance art piece had become a target for 4chan trolls and maybe-ironic white nationalists who were eager for a new medium to shout their memes into as a way of drowning out the ever-present void, creating a tense, generally irritating atmosphere that led to a 24/7 police presence, numerous arrests (including LaBeouf himself), and eventually, the whole thing being shut down. But before it was over, it gave the world a lasting, poignant image of Americas newest political force: a bunch of shirtless, bellowing, internet outlaws chugging milk while joking about racism.

Yes, milk, long beloved of babies, is now associated with attention-seeking, sort-of-kidding white supremacists, who have adopted itlike New Balance shoes and Wendys before itas a winking symbol of their own racial superiority. As with every aspect of the alt-right culture, of course, understanding how this happened requires digging through multiple layers of internet irony and eye-stabbing 4chan threads: Essentially, somebody once posted a scientific study on higher instances of lactose intolerance among certain populations; some of 4chans legion of shitposterswho were just being edgy!used this a springboard to joke about how the ability to drink milk is a mark of white purity. The meme then entered our bleary-eyed waking world when Internet-famous rapper Paperboy Prince told 4chan personality /pol/blart, live on Shia LaBeoufs stream, that drinking milk is hate speech, thus giving their trolling the transformative power of someone actually caring.

In response, /pol/blartalong with his various other message board bandits riding roughshod across the hardy terrain of message boards, rebelling against the hegemony of not being dicks to everyoneswarmed the museum to strip to the waist, dance around, and drink milk straight from the bottle. As they dribbled that milk like big, manly toddlers into their goatees, one of them dripping it down the LOL-Nazi tattoos on their chest, they cheered their exuberant display of peak masculinity. They flexed and bragged about how much they could squat. They rubbed their pale, glistening, milk-fed bellies together, did cartwheels, straddled their balls across each others necks, and shouted about cucks and the vegan agenda. And they laughed at how they were making fools of all the triggered, gay libtards down in their safe spaces and the silly things they do, shouting out their alpha male community of dudes who spend their entire day trading in-jokes on the internet.

And hey, it worked! Not only did they make a bunch of museum employees sick of dealing with grown men giggling about Hitler, then triumphantly force them to cancel an art installation, the media actually wrote about how Nazis love milk! Thanks to this, the alt-rights love of milk is now officially a meme we all have to hear aboutwhich is why you will see people like Richard Spencer, the punched face of the movement, ceremonially replacing the cartoon frogs with milk emojis in their Twitter handles and joking about how cows are racists and the lactose intolerant left. All in all, a successful act of proving to Shia LaBeouf that, when it comes to being obnoxious solely for attention, these pasty bros spitting up milk on themselves into a webcam are truly superior.

South Korean Alt-Right Rises Up to Defend Impeached President – Voice of America

SEOUL

A new South Korean conservative Alt Right coalition is forming to fight against what they say is the illegal impeachment of the duly elected president, Park Geun-hye, by the lying media and pro-North Korean establishment elites.

The pro-Park conservatives have been slow to organize in the wake of a presidential corruption scandal that erupted in October of last year.

Maybe our attempts to rescue the president are too late, or a little bit late. Why? Because the whole thing was unexpected, said Chulhong Kim, an associate professor at the Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary in Seoul, who has become a leader of a new conservative group that has yet to become a formal organization.

October surprise

President Park was brought down by allegations that she colluded with or was manipulated by her long time friend Choi Soon-sil, along with some close presidential aides, to force Korean conglomerates to donate nearly $65 million to two dubious foundations. Choi reportedly benefited from lucrative side contracts to companies owned by herself and her friends.

There were also other charges that outraged the public but carried less legal weight, that Choi used her presidential connections to gain her daughter admission into a prestigious university, and that Park was negligent in handling the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster that killed over 300 people, many of them school age children.

The fast moving scandal sparked weeks of widespread public protests across the country, and saw the presidents public approval rating plummet to below 10 percent. In December, the National Assembly voted overwhelmingly to impeach Park, while at the same time appointing a special counsel to investigate the charges. Since then Park has been suspended from office while the Constitutional Court reviews the impeachment motion, that if upheld will result in an early presidential election some time this year.

The presidents defenders contend the impeachment legislative process is overtly political, pressured by bias media coverage and unduly influenced by public demonstrations, and legally flawed in convicting Park and suspending her from office before even holding official hearings.

Under the current law, impeachment is not illegal but subsequently the immediate suspension of the president is against the principle of presumption of innocence, said Professor Kim.

Protests and term limits

Over the weekend, both pro and anti-impeachment demonstrations were held in Seoul and across the country.

Korean media reported that 750,000 pro-impeachment supporters held a candlelight vigil on Saturday evening in downtown Gwanghwamun Square despite freezing temperatures that dropped to minus 9 degrees Celsius. Moon Jae-in, a progressive leader of the opposition Democratic Party and the leading presidential contender in opinion polls, joined with the demonstrators, saying that, the voices of the people are the constitution.

The renewed surge of protesters coming out against President Park reflects concerns the Constitution Court could become deadlocked if they do not soon conclude their judicial review.

The nine member Constitutional Court must reach the required quorum of six votes to uphold the impeachment motion. However the court is already down to eight members as the term of the chief justice ended in January. Another justice will reach his term limit in March. Then the court will be down to seven members, but six votes will still be required to reach a verdict. And Constitutional Court justices cannot be replaced until the impeachment issue is resolved.

Lying media

Parks supporters also held a rally earlier on Saturday in front of City Hall. Media reports say the number of anti-impeachment demonstrators reached over 200,000, but organizers claim that more than a million people participated.

The hardline pro-Park organizers discount mainstream media reports, saying they are biased against the president and her ruling Saenuri Party, and working with opposition groups to topple the president.

I want (to say to the) dishonest media, you, please, do not deceive our people, said Jiyeon Ihn, an activist and attorney that heads us up a group called Now! Act for North Koreans! (NANK.)

Pro-American

At the conservative rallies, American flags are proudly displayed. The deployment of the U.S. THAAD missile defense system is widely supported. And China objections about increasing U.S. military capabilities, and reservations expressed by opposition leaders, are loudly jeered.

Many of these Korean far-right activists see Parks impeachment as part of an insidious leftist, communist movement backed by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

If the attempt succeeds the future government would be pro-North Korean, anti-American, anti-free market, anti-human rights. It would inaugurate a unified communist regime in the Korean Peninsula, said Professor Kim.

Unable to get their views expressed in traditional news outlets, the new Korean Alt-Right is spreading the word through social media. While their rallies are still smaller than their opponents, they say their movement is growing. And even if President Parks impeachment is upheld, these conservatives intend to become an influential political force in future elections.
