Ann Coulter Is Worried the ‘Trump-Haters Were Right’ – Fox News Insider

Ann Coulter was one of President Donald Trump's most outspoken supporters during the 2016 election, but so far she's been underwhelmed by his presidency.

In an interview with The Daily Caller on Sunday,Coulter said she still has hope in Trump, but she is ready to jump ship if things don't change.

"Im not very happy with what has happened so far," Coulter said. "I guess we have to try to push him to keep his promises. But this isnt North Korea, and if he doesnt keep his promises, Im out. This is why we voted for him. I think everyone who voted for him knew his personality was grotesque, it was the issues."

She explained that Trump ran as a master negotiator who would drain the Washington, D.C., swamp, but she hasn't seen him follow through on enough of his campaign promises.

"My fingers are still crossed. Its not like Im out yet, but boy, things dont look good," Coulter said.

She added that she won't apologize for supporting Trump during the election, because he said all the right things on the campaign trail and because there was no better option.

She said she is afraid now that "the Trump-haters were right," which she said would be a "nightmare."

"I got to tell you when I wrote 'Adios America,' I thought there was a ten percent chance of saving the country," Coulter said. "On the evening of November 8, I thought, 'Wow, we have a 90 percent chance now. This is a chance that comes a long once every thousand years. We can save America now.'"

"And now, I dont know, Im someplace between ten percent and 90 percent."

Trump’s Biggest Boosters Are Beginning to Doubt the Donald – New York Magazine

In 2010, when Utah-based artist Jon McNaughton produced an original painting showing President Obama trampling the Constitution, he could have never anticipated just how much hed support the next president. At the time, Donald Trump hadnt even started his racist birther campaign.

Fast forward six years, and Trump, on his first day as president-elect, was echoing the message of McNaughtons painting, entitled The Forgotten Man.

Now, six months later, after the tumultuous beginning to Trumps presidency, hes at risk of losing McNaughtons support, along with that of some of his other strongest supporters.

I dont like America intervening in other countries business. That bothers me, McNaughton told Task and Purpose, pointing out his opposition to Trumps Syria strikes. The artist, whose work includes a painting of Obama golfing as nukes go off, added that Trump has kind of backpedaled on things that he said during election process, which is disconcerting.

McNaughton is not the only high-profile Trump supporter publicly expressing doubts about the president. Ann Coulter, who published a book called In Trump We Trust months before he was elected, recently told the Daily Caller that shes not very happy with what has happened so far.

Coulter isnt quite ready to renounce her support for Trump, but she says all of the Trump true believers are petrified, herself included.

Last week, Quinnipiac University released a poll that showed just how poorly Trump is doing among his biggest boosters. It showed eroded support among white men, white voters without college degrees, and independents or the people most likely to have this poster on their wall.

Ann Coulter, Berkeley, and YAF – Townhall

|

Posted: May 16, 2017 12:01 AM

Occasionally, my liberal friends who despise Ann Coulter will bring up her name in my presence as if they are defying me to defend her. On those occasions, I always offer up a partial defense of Ann. I tell them she is brilliant so much so that she could have been the next William F. Buckley. But I also add that her almost pathological need for publicity has badly damaged her credibility over the years. On occasions, it has also damaged the conservative movement. More recently, it has inflicted damage on some friends of mine who run an organization to which I am deeply indebted.

Most people reading this column have followed the news about Ann Coulter's cancelled appearance on the University of California, Berkeley campus, which was originally sponsored by Young America's Foundation (YAF). The event YAF had originally agreed to sponsor was intended to be just like the ones sponsored by YAF in the past. Both Coulter and her sponsors were expecting to be assigned to a classroom or lecture hall, as is the norm for guest lectures at Berkeley.

Unfortunately, unlike past appearances, corrupt university administrators refused to assign or allow a lecture hall to be scheduled for the speech. This raised a serious constitutional issue. In fact, the refusal constituted a transparent effort to engage in prior restraint of speech based on the speakers controversial viewpoints. Thankfully, YAF has responded appropriately with a federal lawsuit challenging Berkeleys blatant attempt to abridge the First Amendment.

After it became clear that Berkeley administrators had decided that they would not assign a room in time for students to promote the event, Coulter decided to take matters into her own hands. This involved going to the press without consulting her student hosts. In a series of media interviews, she announced that she was going to appear at Berkeley even though they had assigned no lecture hall. Her plan was to appear at Berkeleys Sproul Plaza and do an open-air speech with a megaphone. This was a serious error in judgment on Coulters behalf for at least two reasons:

1. An open-air speech at Sproul Plaza was nothing short of an invitation to mass violence. By announcing this several days in advance, Coulter was doing more than just inviting violent leftists to disrupt her speech. She was also inviting members of the alt-right to come confront them on their own turf. It is possible that the event hosts could have provided security to protect Coulter. But there was no way that they could have prevented widespread violence that likely would have resulted in harm to innocent bystanders, including Berkeley students.

2. An open-air speech at Sproul Plaza would have been a capitulation in the fight for conservatives to have equal access to lecture halls and classrooms at Berkeley. In my years of working with student activists, I have always told them to refuse to take a seat at the back of the bus when campus administrators try to violate their rights. Coulters decision to accept the refusal to assign a room and instead move into an uncontrolled outdoor venue was tantamount to accepting Berkeleys refusal to allow conservatives to occupy a seat at the front of the bus. It was good publicity for Ann in the short term. It was very bad precedent for other conservative speakers in the long term.

After defying Berkeley administrators with her open-air speech ploy, Coulter then made another unilateral decision - this time, not to appear at Berkeley at all. This is the point in the controversy where she inflicted much greater damage on the conservative movement by falsely claiming that Young America's Foundation "ordered" her not to go.

This claim is preposterous. In fact, it is simply bizarre. YAF had absolutely no authority to "order" Ann Coulter to go or avoid going anywhere. In all likelihood, Coulter backed out because she realized she was committing to an unwise and dangerous course of action. Thus, she needed someone to blame for her reversal and she threw her fellow conservatives under the bus. In fact, she even went to the absurd extreme of telling people that YAF had sided with Berkeley. The falsity of Coulters claim is easily established by noting that YAF was suing Berkeley in federal court at the precise moment Coulter made that statement. In fact, YAF is still suing them as I write this column.

In the past, I have had many opportunities to speak for YAF. On a couple of occasions there were legitimate threats of violence prior to those events. For example, University of New Hampshire students broke into glass display cases in order to spray swastikas on YAF posters advertising a speech I was scheduled to give (ironically on the subject of hypocrisy in the diversity movement). There were also rumors that activists planned to physically assault me (with food, of all things) after the event. Working together with YAF and my student hosts we secured armed university police security for the event and the violence was thwarted. I could give other examples but this one suffices to show that YAF does not simply bail out of events when there is a possibility of violence.

This unfortunate episode with Coulter should serve as a reminder that things work best when a speaker works together with his or hersponsors. After all, without their generous support our appearances on college campuses would not even be possible. YAF does not deserve to be thrown under the bus by Ann Coulter. In fact, they deserve an apology.

Of course, no apology will be forthcoming from Ann. It is simply up to conservatives to see through her selfish motives and continue to support the Young Americas Foundation. If we do not, the result will be less rather than more conservative speech on our nations campuses.

Ann Coulter event at UC Berkeley mimics Milo Yiannopoulos | The … – The Aggie

GENISIA TING / AGGIE

Right-wing journalist Ann Coulter cancels appearance at Berkeley, sparks debate similar to Milo Yiannopoulos at Berkeley and Davis

Conservative journalist Ann Coulter was invited to speak at UC Berkeley on April 27. However, after her event was cancelled, rescheduled and cancelled again, Coulters lack of presence re-sparked several debates surrounding free speech.

Coulter was invited by the Berkeley College Republicans, the same group who invited former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos to speak on Berkeleys campus in February. Yiannopoulus presence was met with an intense show of violence by groups like the Black Blocs that left Sproul Plaza partly aflame. Coulters visit to Berkeley was expected to end similarly.

Amidst threats of violence against the university to prevent Coulter from speaking, Berkeley proceeded to cancel the event, but was admonished for infringing upon Coulter and her supporters free speech.

Coulter was rescheduled to speak again on May 2, but insisted upon speaking on the original date of April 27. She explained that she was concerned about audience turnout during a period so close to final exams, and she even threatened legal action if she was not allowed to speak on the original scheduled date.

A lawsuit was filed on April 24, centered around Coulters concerns about her right to speak freely.

This case arises from efforts by one of Californias leading public universities, the suit stated, UC Berkeley once known as the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement to restrict and stifle the speech of conservative students whose voices fall beyond the campus political orthodoxy.

The lawsuit utilized the example of Milo Yiannopoulus appearance in February in the attempt to cite previous infringements UC Berkeley has made on guest speakers. Yiannopouloss event was cancelled due to the same violence that threatened Coulters.

In response, UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks released a statement affirming Berkeleys dedication to both free speech and the safety of its students. Coulters appearance had sparked enough discourse in their community that the goals of her appearance had become questionable.

Sadly and unfortunately, concern for student safety seems to be in short supply in certain quarters, Dirks said in the statement. We believe that once law enforcement professionals determine there are security risks attendant to a particular event, speakers need to focus on what they actually want to achieve.

UC Berkeley administration insisted upon the cancellation of the event after declaring that the venue to hold Coulter was inadequately secure and no other venues were available. Not soon after, conservative groups backing Coulter such as BridgeUSA and Young Americas Foundation pulled their support from the event.

Im so sorry Berkeley cancelled my speech, Coulter tweeted. And Im so sorry for free speech crushed by thugs.

In the wake of the events final cancellation, a free speech rally was organized the day following what was supposed to be Coulters appearance. Supporters of Coulter appeared across Berkeleys campus and at nearby parks, amidst a high concentration of police forces expecting violence to explode at any moment.

Coulter commented in an email to The Associated Press that she might swing by to say hello, which helped to fuel tensions

Im not speaking. But Im going to be near there, Coulter said in the comment. I thought I might stroll around the graveyard of the First Amendment.

Amid heavy police presence the planned free speech rally yielded both discussion and violence. Several protesters were arrested for assault and for refusing to remove masks. Students and groups of peaceful protesters gathered to talk to their opposition, calling for discourse, not force.

Despite the changing narrative surrounding Berkeley and Coulter, and the even more evolving story around the idea of free speech, UC Berkeley remains adamant about protecting their students and their students rights.

This university has two non-negotiable commitments, one to free speech, the other to the safety of our campus community members, their guests, and the public, Dirks wrote. This is a university, not a battlefield.

Coulter Tweet About Alleged Illegal Immigrant Rape Flagged as ‘Hate Speech’ by Twitter – Breitbart News

Ann Coulter posted a link to a recent article on her websitetitled To Say, Stop Raping Me! In English, Press 1 Now on Twitter earlier this week. She added the comment,Liberals are all for rape, provided that the penis forcibly inserted in you is attached to an illegal immigrant.

Coulter said she received an email from Twitter support informing her that the tweet had been flagged as violating Twitters hateful conduct policy. Twitters policy defines hateful conduct as:

Coulter replied to the complaint by stating, This warning is absolutely in error! It has obviously been generated by a computer because a human would read the linked column and find the proof that this tweet is completely, 100% truthful fact by fact, in side-by-side cases. It is not a joke, not hate, it is just the truth.

Twitter has a lengthy history of ignoring hate speech when it comes from those on the left, such as Ghostbusters(2016) actress Leslie Jonesor rapper Talib Kweli, who called Breitbart News Jerome Hudson a coon, yet Coulters tweet was quickly flagged by the social media platform.

Twitters warning email also noted, if it is determined that the flagged content does not violate our hateful conduct policy, Twitter may still withhold content in Germany if the content appears to violate the laws of Germany. In April, Germanys Cabinet approved a bill that would fine social media sites like Twitter up to 50 million euros if they fail to swiftly remove illegal content such as hate speech.
