Conservative firebrand Ann Coulter has announced plans to deliver a talk on illegal immigration at the University of California, Berkeleythe site whereanarchistprotestsagainst Milo Yiannopoulos turned violent earlier this year. Thoseprotests escalated into a full-scale riot as black-clad vandals destroyed public property and defaced private businesses across the city.
Coulter is being hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans chapter, which describes her speech as a chance for the school to redeem its reputation. Long considered the birthplace of the free speech movement, UC Berkeley has recently come under fire for its often-censorious student body, who call for safe spaces against threatening speech.
In the wake of acts of violence and harassment against Trump supporters and College Republicans, the student organization and Young Americas Foundation formally invited Coulter to speak in hopes of creating discourse on campus.
We have invited Ms. Coulter to speak at UC Berkeley because she has been one of the most vocal critics of illegal immigration in all its manifestations and was one of the earliest supporters of President Trump, from when he initially announced his candidacy down to the present day, the student group toldCampus Reform. The Berkeley community has shown itself to be hostile to both of these stances; therefore Ms. Coulter is the perfect individual to engage in a spirited debate on topics such as President Trumps travel ban and sanctuary campuses.
In a statement to the Washington Examiner, Coulter said she expects to draw a crowd, that may perhaps be less than civil.
I hear theyre nice people at Berkeley and expect a pleasant event and stimulating exchange of ideas, she said.
The schools administration has washed its hands of any association with the event, stating to Campus Reform that the Berkeley College Republicans have the right to invite anyone they choose, butthat it should in no way be construed as an official UC Berkeley endorsement.

Ann Coulter green lights North Korea to develop rocket that would hit Seattle
She once told a radio reporter, "They love me in Seattle," but conservative pundit Ann Coulter is making this liberal city the object of her own "nuclear option."
Coulter has given a tongue-in-cheek green light for North Korea's "Great Leader" Kim Jong Un to develop a nuclear missile capable of hitting Seattle, a city making national news for defying the Trump administration.
In a Tweet posted Thursday, Coulter said:
Gen. Michael Hayden: N Korea will make nuke capable of hitting Seattle! Situation will be dire as soon as they can hit a city worth saving.
Hayden is a former director of the National Security Agency, and ex-chief of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Coulter is renowned for saying outrageous things to sell books, and for her dislike of liberal cities and immigrants.
She began a dispatch from the 2004 Democratic National Convention with the words: "Here at the spasm of Satan convention in Boston." She has fulminated over the decline in the percentage of Americans who are white. At World Cup time in 2014, she blamed the moral decay of America on its embrace of soccer.
Yes, actually.
Naturally, this frequent Fox News guest would turn her attention to this corner of what Wall Street Journal editorialists call "the Left Coast." After all, less than 10 percent of Emerald City citizens voted for Trump.
At last year's Republican National Convention, she did tell Jason Rantz of KIRO Radio: "They love me in Seattle. And if they don't they would if they got to know me."
What she practices, however, is not love.
Coulter has railed against U.S. District Judge James Robart, who issued the restraining order that stopped Trump's Muslim travel ban No. 1 She found a quote from the judge -- who is overseeing Seattle police reform -- and Tweeted: "Watch Judge James Robart say 'black lives matter' in court."
She defended Delaware's gaffe-prone 2010 Republican Senate nominee by saying, "Whatever they say about Christine O'Donnell, there is no one stupider in politics than Patty Murray of Washington."
Accuracy has never been a Coulter forte. Last year, for instance, Coulter Tweeted: "Seattle mall shooter, Muslim immigrant Arcan Cetin, voted 3X in US elections, though he is not a citizen."
Cetin was a resident of Skagit County, 60 miles north of Seattle, and killed five people at the Cascade Mall in Burlington.
As well, Coulter might be challenged to reconcile her suggestion of Seattle as a target with her past statement: "Christianity fuels everything I write."

Conservative gadfly Ann Coulteris once again denying rumors that she is getting romantic with Jimmie Walker, the comic star of the 1970s sitcom Good Times.
The tall blonde pundit toldthe New York Post that the rumor spreads every once in a while, but its never been true.
The rumor spread again courtesy of Norman Lear, 94, the famed producer of progressive 1970s TV comedies like All in the Family, The Jeffersons and Good Times, on which Walker skyrocketed to fame for his Dy-no-mite catchphrase.
In an Entertainment Weekly interview with Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Lear said that Walker, 69, dates Coulter. Lear went so far as to describe having dinner with the couple a social occasion thats hard to imagine given Lears outspoken liberal politics and Coulter being a major irritant toliberals.
Lear said, I love [Walker]; hes a wonderful guy, but Ill tell you something about him thatll astound you: He dates Ann Coulter.
Lear also described Coulter as adreamy, delicious, sweet person.
Barris was skeptical of Lears belief that the two are dating, joking:Im not sure Ann Coulter eats solid food. I definitely dont think shes dating Jimmie Walker.
Coulter apparently had a good laugh over the rumor resurfacing, telling the Post that Walker is hilarious. Hes also a Republican, she added, which would definitely make him acceptable friend material in Coulters book. Coulter also took to Twitter to deny the rumor:
This isnt the first time Coulter has had to clarify her relationship status with Walker. In a 2013 interview with The Huffington Post, she also denied she was dating Walker, and said that although he was a close pal, the two were not technically dating.

Every serious person who has tried to locate any evidence that Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election even Trump-haters at theNew York Review of BooksandRolling Stone magazine has come away empty-handed and angry. We keep getting bald assertions, unadorned with anything resembling a fact.
But for now, lets just consider the raw plausibility of the story.
The fact-less claim is that (1) the Russians wanted Donald Trump to win; and (2) They thought they could help him win by releasing purloined emails from the Democratic National Committee showing that the Democrats were conspiring against Hillary Clintons primary opponent, Bernie Sanders.
First, why on earth would Russia prefer a loose cannon, untested president like Trump to an utterly corrupt politician, whod already shown she could be bought? The more corrupt you think Russia is, the more Putin ought toloveHillary as president.
The Russians knew Hillary was a joke from her ridiculous reset button as secretary of state. They proceeded to acquire 20 percent of Americas uranium production, under Hillarys careful management in exchange for ahalf-million-dollar speaking engagement for her husband and millions of dollarsin donations to the Clinton Foundation.
(Politifact rates this claimFALSE! LIAR, LIAR PANTS ON FIRE! because Trump referred to 20 percent of Americas uranium, not to 20 percent of Americas uraniumcapacity. This is the sort of serious reporting we get from our watchdog media.)
The last thing our enemies want is unpredictability in an American president, and Trump is nothing if not unpredictable. Actually, thats only the second-to-last thing Putin wants. Russias only export is energy: Thelastthing Putin wants is a president who vows to drill and frack, driving down the world oil price.
But lets say the Russians were morally offended by a woman who could be bought (by them) for a $500,000 speaking fee, and what they really longed for was a bellicose American president promising to put our interests first.
Why would anyone, least of all trained spies, think that it would help Trump to release emails showing the DNC had itsthumb on the scale against Bernie Sanders?
How was that supposed to work again? I forget.
Accepting everything else the most deranged Trump-hater believes, normal people lose the thread of the conspiracy at the moment when the Russians are supposed to have said to themselves, HEY, I KNOW LETS TRY THIS!
Even experts in American politics havent the first idea how to affect an election. The best minds of the GOP bet $140 million of their own money that Jeb! would be the nominee. (Maybe they should have hired Putin.)
Throughout the primaries, Democrats were openly praying that the GOP would nominate Trump. Democrats had the same hope in 1980 for Ronald Reagan. In 2008, Republicans hooted at the idea of Al Franken running for the U.S. Senate.
Days before the election, Americas premier journal of liberal opinion, The New York Times, gave Hillary a 91 percent chance of winning. The Princeton Election Consortium calculated her chances at 99 percent. The Huffington Posts polling aggregator put Hillarys odds at 98 percent.
But were supposed to believe that a country practiced in spycraft was confident that it not only knew what was likely to happen in a U.S. presidential election, but also knew how to swing it? And no one in Moscow thought to ask: What will be the predictable, certain outcome of releasing the DNCs Get Bernie emails?
The DNC leaks might have ended up being the best thing that ever happened to the Democrats. What if they had pulled a Torricelli, and forced Hillary to drop out, so they could run Joe Biden instead? Biden is a lot more popular than Hillary!
Isnt the more logical leaker someone within the DNC whod had enough with David Brock and Debbie Wasserman Schultz steering the party into a ditch? The actual leaker probably thought:Ive got to save the party! Shes going to destroy us!
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, as well as his associate, former British ambassador Craig Murray, both say that the DNC emails came from awhistleblowerwithin the DNC. Murray has even identified the precise location where a DNC insider passed him the emails a park near American University.
Assange may be a misguided zealot, but neither his friends nor his enemies call him a liar. His image is very nearly the opposite: a self-righteousness fanatic not a slippery con man.
Hey, did anyone else notice that last week, very quietly, every single staffer at the DNC wasfired?
The claim that Russia hacked the DNCs emails to help Trump is the sort of crackpot theory that can only be concocted after the fact.
They would prefer to say that North Korea or ISIS hacked our election and somehow installed Trump. But unfortunately, Trump has no business dealings with ISIS or the Pyongyang regime. He or people he knows have had some vague business dealings with Russia. So the left is stuck with its insane Russia conspiracy.
And now, just as the whole story is collapsing, their need is even more urgent, to distract from the Obama administrations use of national security intelligence-gathering agencies to spy on domestic enemies like Donald Trump.
