How Twitter took it: Social media reacts to Trump’s speech – CNN

Here are some of the funniest bits of analysis, nastiest rejoinders and most bizarre takes on Trump's first address to a joint session of Congress.

Republican strategist and CNN commentator Ana Navarro was impressed and a bit confused: "You can disagree w/him on policy, but this is most Presidential Trump has ever sounded. If I had amnesia, I might even forget he is insane."

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox and frequent Trump critic was not impressed: ".@realDonaldTrump is Condemning hate and evil, then he should start by example and take back his hateful words. #JointSession"

Joe the Plumber weighed in with a typically nasty message for former President Barack Obama: "Hey @BarackObama your legacy is being flushed!! #Jointsession #MAGA #pjnet #nra @realDonaldTrump Make America Great Again!!"

New Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez called Trump out for alleged hypocrisy, posting a picture of a "Donald J. Trump Signature Collection" item made, according to a tag, in China: "Buy American, right? #JointSession"

Trump has been making Sen. Bernie Sanders laugh (or close to it) a bunch lately: "When Trump said we need to promote clean air and clean water, I had a hard time not laughing. Today he rolled back clean water rules."

Economist Justin Wolfers analyzed what drew attention and why: "Incredibly, it's newsworthy when the President comes out against hate crimes."

Dave Wasserman commented on the duality of Trump:

"Emerging White House dual strategy:

1) Twitter Trump to agitate/fire up the base

2) Teleprompter Trump to renormalize/reassure indies"

The New Yorker's John Cassidy thought the address was light on details: "Missing words in speech: budget deficit. Infrastructure program, boost to military spending, lower taxes. All the goodies, but no price tag."

Former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett stepped back and did not like what he was seeing: "DONALD TRUMP ADDRESSING CONGRESS IS A BAD JOKE FROM THE NINETIES AND NOW IT'S OUR LIVES."

Presidential super fan Ann Coulter declared that Trump alone could read this speech: "What a beautiful speech. Not one other Republican in that room could give this speech."

Former Hillary Clinton campaign staffer Rob Flaherty called out former Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer:

Fleischer: "The fact that some Ds won't shake his hand or are boycotting the speech is sickening. 70 Ds boycotted his Inaugural. Enough is enough."

Flaherty responded: "A Republican literally once shouted 'you lie' at Barack Obama."

Adam Nagourney of the New York Times broke down Trump's restrained performance: "Winners tonight: The teleprompter."

The National Review's Rich Lowry on the changing times: "As a friend points (out), there wasn't ANY social conservatism in that speech."

And New York Times reporter and CNN analyst Alex Burns had a flashback to the 2016 primary. Luckily, he woke up halfway through: "Doesn't make sense for Cruz to go after Trump, he needs to clear Rubio & Walker out of the 'true conservative' la(ne)."

Ann Coulter: Trump Should Tweet More, Make Stephen Miller VP In 2020 – RealClearPolitics

Author of 'In Trump We Trust' Ann Coulter joins FNC's Tucker Carlson to review the first month of the Trump presidency and his new immigration orders. Her only complaint was that he should tweet more.

About White House press sercetary Sean Spicer, she said: "Well no one can do it as well as Trump... He's kind of boring."

About WH chief of staff Reince Priebus, she said: "He seems fine."

"My favorite human being is Stephen Miller," she said about the 31-year-old White House senior adviser. "And I do think Trump should take him as a vice president for the second term," she said. "We can't have Reagan-Reagan-Bush again. No, no, it has got to be sombody [other than Mike Pence]. It could be [Kansas Atty Gen. Kris] Kobach, it doesn't have to be Stephen Miller."

Overall she rated President Trump an A+ and said he hadn't done anything she didn't like. "I love his tweets. I love them so much it drives the media crazy," she said.

COULTER: Um, no.

CARLSON: Theres not one thing that hes done where you thought -- ahh?

COULTER: I think he should tweet more.

CARLSON: Come on, now. What would be the purpose of that?

COULTER: I love his tweets. I love them so much it drives the media crazy. I wrote In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome! I wrote it with Never Trumpers in mind. I understand what the complaints are with Donald Trump. But then as I was writing it, all the stuff I used to say, 'OK, there is this baggage, but hes the only one to push, and the only one in my lifetime to push issues that are important for America.' I started to realize I like stuff even the baggage.

Coulter: Trump "In Danger" From "Enemy" Media If He Attended WH Correspondents’ Dinner – RealClearPolitics

Ann Coulter reacts to President Trump's decision not to attend this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday's edition of Justice with Judge Jeanine. Coulter said the event is a celebration of media outlets that report "blatant lies." The columnist said Trump is hurting the media by attending and it gives him more time to work "shutting down sanctuary cities."

"It's a big thing now," Judge Jeanine said of the WHCD. "The president has indicated, President Trump, that he's not going. What do you think and why do you think he's not going."

"I'm so relieved he's not going," Coulter said. "I want him working and not hanging around the enemy. He could be danger at the White House Correspondents' Dinner."

"But seriously he has everyone against him," she said. I want him in the White House working. This is a frivolous event.""

"This is four more hours he could be shutting down sanctuary cities," Coulter added.

"Most of the main organization throwing the White House Correspondents' Dinner are the propagators of the some of the biggest and most blatant lies that they tell over and over again," Coulter said of the gathering. "And just to tell one example so I'm not just saying this; once again we hear, just recently I was reading this nonsense about Trump making fun of a disabled reporter. That has been proved false over and over again. The Washington Post took down comments including video showing Trump doing the exact same imitation for Ted Cruz, a foreign general. And that's consciousness of guilt when they are taking down those videos from the comments section."

Trump tweets that he’ll skip WH Correspondents Dinner; why Ann Coulter is relieved – BizPac Review

President Donald Trump has decided not to attend the White House Correspondents Dinner.

The president said he was skipping the annual event that celebrates the media but he wished them well.

Its not a big surprise as several news outlets, including Bloomberg News, cancelled afterparties and it was reported that CNN was discussing not attending.

But the White House Correspondents Association confirmed it will still hold the event.

Conservative author and pundit Ann Coulter said the decision was a good move.

I want him working and not hanging around with the enemy, he told Fox News Jeanine Pirro on Justice Saturday as she joked that he might be in danger at the frivolous event.

Coulter said the organizations holding the dinner are the propagators of the biggest and most blatant lies and skipping the event is four more hours he can spend shutting down sanctuary cities.
