Star Jones Plots ‘Verbal Beatdown’ of Ann Coulter

Star Jones attends the Broadway opening night for Motown: The Musical at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on April 14, 2013 in New York City

*Star Jones, who is hosting the National Association of Professional Womens National Networking Conference this week, joined HuffPost Live Wednesday morning and commented on Ann Coulters recent anti-Muslim comments, in which she said Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaevs widow, Katherine Russell, ought to be in prison for wearing a hijab.

Jones told HuffPost Live hosts Marc Lamont Hill and Alicia Menendez that she would open up one of the spots at her conference to Coulter, who she described as a woman that could benefit from networking with women who actually understand the concept that women are not a monolith.

When asked what would happen if Coulter did attend her conference, Jones said:

She would probably get the beatdown, and hopefully it would be a verbal beatdown so the women could explain to her that what makes America great is the diversity of our cultures and the meeting of different cultures together to form this one beautiful fabric.

Jones added that she is ashamed of Coulters totally racist comments.

Elmwood artist Ann Coulter seeks truth in pastel art

Ann Coulter's camera is always close at hand - photographs are the landscape artist's preliminary sketches.

"For me, taking a photograph is a way to capture an instant," said Coulter, 55, while sitting in her studio at the Murray Building in Peoria recently. "Translating it into a drawing is a way of understanding what I like about it."

Coulter's pastel drawings will be displayed at Pearce Gallery in Dunlap April 30 through June 14. The artist will talk about her work at noon May 17.

Most days, as Coulter commutes to her Downtown studio from the 150-year-old Elmwood farmhouse she shares with her husband Ken, the camera is by her side, ready to capture an interesting sunset, a cloudburst visible across miles of rich brown farmland, or a thicket turned golden by the setting sun.

"I don't take the interstate. I take the back roads so I can pull over," she said.

The Midwestern landscape is endlessly interesting to Coulter, who was born and raised in Joliet and has lived in central Illinois since getting a master's in art at San Diego State University in the early 1980s.

"For me, looking at the landscape and being a part of it is sort of a grounding experience," she said. Modern society tends to be disconnected from the land in a way our ancestors could not have imagined. "It's important to be paying attention to something that isn't man-made," said Coulter. "We don't realize how much the landscape and nature affects us."

Coulter's on-site photographs are the first step of a process that is finished in the studio. Paper is tacked onto the wall and, using pastels, the artist begins disseminating the visual information in the photographs.

"I'm interested in the process of translating things," she said. "Taking a photograph is one translation, making a drawing of it is another. Things shift in every way, from the form and the light and the shape and the color, you can't have an exact replica. Those shifts are subtle, but they are significant."

For Coulter, this shift in translation has greater meaning.

Ann Coulter Uses Boston Bombing To Tear Into Amnesty: ‘Shows How We Need Better Immigrants’

Sean Hannity invited frequent guest Ann Coulter on his Fox News show Monday night to get her take on the developing case against the remaining Boston Marathon bombing suspect. The first Coulter wondered aloud was why authorities didnt just give 19-year-old American citizen Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the automatic death penalty by shooting up the boat he was hiding in when they found him Friday night.

After Hannity expressed his dismay that the suspect has now been read his Miranda rights and wont be tried as an enemy combatant, Coulter asked, Why not just shoot up the boat? If were not going to talk to him and get any information about the cell, about any foreign influence, they should have kept shooting when they caught him in the boat. Just give him an automatic death penalty there.

Coulter also went after the FBI for not doing more to prevent the attack in the first place after they were reportedly tipped off by Russian intelligence about the older, deceased suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Now that they know what a bang-up job our FBI did are they going to trust us with their information to be presented in a public trial?

Of the slain suspects wife, who is reportedly not cooperating with authorities, Coulter said, she ought to be in prison for wearing a hijab. Tying the attack to immigration, she said that our policy of us assimilating immigrants into our culture isnt really working. No, theyre assimilating us into their culture. Coulter took Hannity aback by asking of the wife, did she get a cliterectomy too?

Hannity furthered the immigration angle, saying, if people are coming from countries where perhaps they grew up under Sharia law, I think we can make a safe assumption that they have been radicalized. He added, Allowing foreign students into the country without investigative background checks that are exhaustive is a mistake, and its putting Americans at risk.

Or as Coulter put it, this attack didnt show that we need better tracking, it shows that we need better immigrants. While she said our immigration policy does not need to be discriminatory based on race, it should be discriminatory based on skills, based on age, based on resources.

Moving the discussion back to the Boston Marathon bombing trial, Coulter reiterated that the suspect should be tried as an enemy combatant in a military tribunal. Hannity went one step further, saying I would waterboard him myself.

Once Again, Internet Falls For False Story About Ann Coulter

After having successfully fooled the Washington Post, Boston.com, Breitbart.com, and the Drudge Report with its satirical news stories, youd think most people would realize by now that The Daily Currant is a fake news website that mocks conservative personalities with fake articles about them doing openly racist or buffoonish things in public. But just as many people (including active congressmen) still dont know that The Onion is fake news, it seems as though much of the Internet is still stuck falling for the Currants parodies as well.

Ann Coulter Walks Out of Star Trek, Claims Too Many Minorities reads the sites headline from Thursday afternoon. The article describes in detail how the conservative columnist walked out of a premiere of Star Trek: Into Darkness because the film included too many minorities.

By creating fake dialogue with Coulter lamenting to radio host Sean Hannity that the movies only white characters were Soviets or Jews, the Currant creates what some might easily interpret as a realistic situation for the conservative commentator. And, of course, it is successful in duping those who dont understand the sites background or have strongly-held beliefs that Coulter is a racist.

Grammy-winning musician and producer Questlove got in on the action, tweeting the story without comment:

Its unclear whether Questlove understood that this article was parodical. But among his 2.6 million followers, a steady stream of outrage ensued from those who fell for it (not all did). A sampling:
