Betty Gilpin to Play Ann Coulter on Impeachment: American Crime Story – TheWrap

GLOW star Betty Gilpin has been cast as Ann Coulter in Ryan Murphys Impeachment: American Crime Story, an FX spokesperson told TheWrap Thursday.

The upcoming third season of the anthology series centers on the impeachment of President Bill Clinton (who will be portrayed by Clive Owen), following his affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinksy (Beanie Feldstein).

Along with Owen and Feldstein, Impeachment stars Sarah Paulson as Lewinsky confidante Linda Tripp, Annaleigh Ashfor as Paula Jones and Billy Eichner as conservative journalist Matt Drudge.

Gilpins addition to the cast marks her first role within the Murphyverse.

Sarah Burgess writes and will executive produce Impeachment alongside Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk, Larry Karaszewski, Scott Alexander, Alexis Martin Woodall, Hannah Fidell and Paulson. Lewinsky will serve as a producer on the season, as will Feldstein, Henrietta Conrad and Jemima Khan.

Impeachment was supposed to air this coming September, a couple of months before the 2020 presidential election. It has since been delayed due to creator Murphys congested schedule, FX chief John Landgraf told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this month. That same day, the cable network announced it had renewed Murphys American Horror Story for three more seasons.

Deadline was the first to report Gilpins casting.

Winter is here and with it, naturally, comes the Winter TV season. Ann Coulter: IMPEACHMENT WEEKIts OK to Be Bored; Not OK to Be White – Breitbart

Its weeks like this that make me wish I had a job and didnt have to stay home watching TV. With the impeachment nonsense dragging into its 56th month, I have some random observations, only a few of which have anything to do with impeachment.

1) As tempting as it must be for Republican senators to make a headlong rush to the TV cameras at the conclusion of the days festivities, they would be well advised to say this, andonlythis, each night:

Here are the vital issues the United States Congress did NOT address today:

Repairing our highways, bridges and border with a major infrastructure bill.

Ensuring that all Americans can get jobs by cutting off the deluge of cheap foreign labor.

Providing the public with quality services by not inviting the rest of the world to come partake of government benefits meant for Americans.

Fixing the disaster of Obamacare, so that all Americans have access to quality health care (by activating the same mechanisms that give them quality food, housing and iPhones: the free market, contract law, and occasional government subsidies).

Passing a bill to defund all the pointless, expensive military deployments around the globe, so we can FINALLY address the hellfires in our own hemisphere.

Ending the opioid crisis by declaring war on Mexican drug cartels and building a wall.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should attach electrodes to the testicles of every Republican and blast him the moment he (OR SHE!) diverges from the script.

2) The person I really feel sorry for is Nancy Pelosi. I assume shes weeping uncontrollably as she watches her chances of holding the speakership dwindle every time Jerry Nadler waddles to the mic. True, you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want, as Donald Rumsfeld said, but surely there are more telegenic Democrats than Nadler and Adam Schiff.

3) Every day since forever, the New York Times has run a column about how white people are getting on African Americans last nerve.

On Monday of this week, it was How Much Racism Do You Face Every Day?

Average for black teenager: 5x a day.

Example: Hearing about a family member who experiences something they described as racial discrimination.

And heres one from Tuesday, titled: How to Convince a White Realtor Youre Middle Class; Black people expend daily energy to counteract racial stereotypes and get fair treatment.

The examples included a white real estate agent asking a slatternly attired black woman if she could afford a specific house, and a black woman claiming she was required to sign a no party pledge before checking into a Portland, Oregon, Marriott.

Also since forever, whites have been trying not to offend. Thus, on the same day as the racial stereotypes column, the Times ran an article about white Iowa voters terrified of picking a Democratic nominee whom black people wont like.

Its useless. No matter how hard they try, whites justcant stopoffending black people with their damned microaggressions.

My thought is, anyone of any race can commit microaggressions against people of other races. What we all should endeavor to do is avoidmacro-aggressions you know, little things like murder, rape, assault, and carjacking.

4) Last week, 20-foot-tall letters appeared on the side of a barn in Southport, England, spelling out the phrase: ITS OK TO BE WHITE. British papers went on red alert, denouncing the [r]acist and anti-ethnic graffiti that [s]hocked and appalled residents.

We understand and deeply apologize for such monstrous racism. Would any of these variants pass legal muster?

It might be acceptable to be white, but were not sure, well get back to you.

While it is certainly never OK to be white, we hope you will accept our deepest apology.

Whiteness is not for everybody, but to say its OK to be white is not who we are.

If none of these are acceptable, please rest assured, we dont mean to offend. Apologies all around! Were all staying late at the office to figure this out. Food is being sent in as we speak

At least we wont have to watch impeachment news.

Trump Targets a New Group of Immigrants – The Atlantic

A Wall Street Journal article on the potential travel-ban expansion suggests a different justification: Travelers from Eritrea, Sudan, and Nigeria are more likely than travelers from other countries to overstay their visas. But if thats the caseas Tom Jawetz, an immigration expert at the Center for American Progress, explained to methe answer is to train the U.S. consular officers who give out those visas to better determine who wont return home, or to actually increase visas to meet legitimate demand. The answer is not to collectively punish the population of an entire country.

David Frum: Americas asylum system is profoundly broken

But if the Trump administrations real motivation is to decrease immigration from Africa, then collective punishment has a certain logic to it. For several years now, Trump has trained his nativist ire on Muslims and Latinos. The travel ban suggests hes adding a new target, just in time for the 2020 elections: Africans.

According to the Pew Research Center, the number of black immigrants in the United States has grown fivefold over the past 40 years. Americas immigrant population from sub-Saharan Africa more than doubled from 2000 to 2016 alone. Trumps allies have noticed. In her book Adios America, which Trump publicly praised, and parroted, when he launched his 2016 campaign, Ann Coulter claims, There were almost no Nigerians in the United States until the 1970s. Today there are 380,000. This is a problem, she declares, because in Nigeria, every level of society is criminal. When 500 Congolese and Angolan immigrants showed up at the Texas border last June, Tucker Carlson warned that, because of population growth on the continent of Africa, African immigration could become a torrent that could overwhelm our country, and change it completely and forever.

Trump himself, according to The New York Times, vented in a 2017 Oval Office meeting that on his watch the United States had admitted 40,000 Nigerians who would never go back to their huts. (Nigerian immigrants are actually twice as likely to have at least a bachelors degree as Americans as a whole.) During an immigration meeting in 2018, The Washington Post reported, Trump referred to Haiti, El Salvador, and nations in Africa as shithole countries. Soon afterward, the White House unveiled a proposal to remake Americas immigration system. According to the Center for American Progress, it would have reduced immigration from sub-Saharan Africa by 46 percent, more than any other region of the world.

Ibram X. Kendi: The day shithole entered the presidential lexicon

But while Trumps animosity to African immigration isnt new, it has never before taken center stage in his administrations policies or his public rhetoric. Trump launched his 2016 presidential campaign talking about Mexican rapists. He made building a wall on Americas southern border his campaigns rallying cry. He responded to the December 2015 jihadist attack in San Bernardino, California, by demanding a ban on Muslim immigration. He made Central American immigrant caravans the heart of his get-out-the-vote strategy in 2018.
