Ann Coulter and Hannity? The off-topic things Trump said in …

President Trump declared a national emergency to free up funding for his border wall between the U.S and Mexico. But declaring a national emergency isnt new -- in fact, the use of emergency powers is older than the country itself. USA TODAY, Just the FAQs

WASHINGTON From North Korea and China to Fox News hosts and conservative commentator Ann Coulter, PresidentDonald Trump did not stick to the script on Friday when he outlined his plans to declare a national emergency for a wall along the southern U.S. border.

The president started his nearly hour-long remarks, all done without the help of a teleprompter, with the latest on trade deals with China. Using one of the biggest moments in his presidency to quickly segueinto discussing tariffs, the United Kingdom and North Korea.

It wasn't long before he was talking about Fox News host Sean Hannity and other conservative commentators, such as Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh.

What was missing from Trump's remarks were specifics on what exact actions Trump was taking and planning, where the money would come from and what effect pulling these funds would have on the federal agencies.

Here are all the things Trump did discuss in his address about his national emergency that didn't have to do with the construction of a wall along the southern border:

As the president walked up to the podium in the Rose Garden at the White House, most thought he would spend his time explaining the reasoning behind his decision to use his executive powers.

Instead, Trump started off talking about China.

"Before we begin, I'd like to just say that we have a large team of very talented people in China. We've had a negotiationgoing on for about two days," the president said. "It's going extremelywell. Who knows what that means because it only matters if we get it done but we're very much working very closely with China and President Xi, who I respect a lot."

The president trailed off, talking about the history of deals with China and that the U.S. is working toward "leveling the playing field" when it comes to trading with the country. He suggested he might delay a deadline for hiking tariffs on China.

President Trump makes the crowd chuckle as he speaks in a singsong manner saying he knows his national emergency declaration is going to lead to a lawsuit, but hopes they'll "get a fair shake." USA TODAY

"We're covering everything, all of the points that people have been talking about for years that said couldn't be done, whether it was theft or anything," Trump said. "The unfairness. We've been losing on average $375 billion a year with China."

After the president announced he would be signing off on declaring a national emergency, he was asked whether the intense pressure and criticism from conservatives in the news media played into his decision making.

"Look, Sean Hannity has been a terrific, terrificsupporter of what I do, not of me," Trump said. "If I change my views he wouldn't be with me."

Hannity, a Fox News host who has been known to frequently talk to the president on the phone, was one of many Republicans who constantly called for the president to declare a national emergency to get the wall built.

Trump then segued into some of the other big names in conservative media.

"Rush Limbaugh, I think he's a great guy," Trump said. "He can speak for three hours without a phone call, try doing that sometime. Three hours he speaks. He's got one of the biggest audiences in the history of the world. I mean this guy is unbelievable."

Reporters noticed that instead of answering whether these media personalities played into his decision-making process, he simply boasted about them.

Pressed by a reporter, Trump said. "They don't decide policy."

Trump stuck on this media tangent, using the momentof his to give shoutouts to how great otherFox News personalities are, such as Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson.

The president even pointed to coverage he enjoyed on CNN and MSNBC, who he normally rails against as "fake news."

He also went into detail about his relationship with conservative commentator Ann Coulter, who as of late has been heavily criticizing him during the negotiations for a border wall.

She, also called Trump the "biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States".

"Ann Coulter. I don't know her. I hardly know her. I haven't spoken to her in way over a year but the press loves saying Ann Coulter, probably if I did speak to her, she would be very nice," the president said. "I just don't have the time to speak to her. I would speak to her but I have nothing against her. In fact, I like her for one reason: When they asked her like rightat the beginning, who is going to win the election, she said Donald Trump."

He continued, saying that while he does like her "she's off the reservation."

"But anybody who knows her understands that. But I haven't spoken to her. I don't follow her. I don't talk to her. But the press loves to bring up the name Ann Coulter."

Trump went back to his roots during the announcement, using the nationally televised press conference to talk about North Korea, the history of relations between the U.S. and the country and what comes next.

He brought up the nickname "Little Rocketman" that he gave North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and boasted about his success in negotiations with the regime, along with howplanning is going for his second summit with the leader, which is scheduled this month inVietnam.

Trump faced immediate blowback after assertingthat his predecessor, Barack Obama, was on the brink of starting "a big war" with North Korea.

The president said Obama told him North Korea's nuclear weaponsprogram presented the greatest threat to the United States during a 2016meeting in the White House just after Trump won the presidential election.

"He told me he was so close to starting a big war with North Korea," Trump recounted.

A number of Obama advisor spoke up andcalled the claim a complete farce.

"It is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that the Obama administration was considering anything like that," said Michael Fuchs, who served as Obama's deputy assistant secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific affairs. He said Trump was simply "lying" about that exchange.

Ann Coulter says Donald Trump is trying to "scam the …

Conservative political commentator and author Ann Coulter railed against President Trump on Thursday night as he prepared to declare a national emergency to build his border wall, tweeting that such a move was intended to scam the stupidest people in his base.

Coulter, a one-time fervent supporter of Trump but who has angrily turned on him in recent months, quote-tweeted Conservative Review senior editor Daniel Horowitzs post that the goal of a national emergency is to end illegal immigration and cartel smuggling.

Horowitz wrote that 100 to 200 miles of fencing will not do and that unaccompanied minors will come anywhere including points of entry and not only get amnesty for themselves but for those here.

Coulter disagreed.

No, the goal of a national emergency is for Trump to scam the stupidest people in his base for 2 more years, she tweeted.

In a separate tweet, she added, The goal is to get Trump's stupidest voters to say HE'S FIGHTING! No he's not. If he signs this bill, it's over.

Trump was set to declare a national emergency mid-afternoon Friday, aimed at securing about $6.5 billion to build the border wall, his biggest campaign promise. He planned to sign spending legislation averting another government shutdown during the same event, slated to take place inthe White House Rose Garden.

Hours before Trumps planned announcement, Coulter reiterated her stance that he should not declare a national emergency.

There ARE no emergency powers to build the wall if Trump signs this bill, she tweeted. It's like signing a confession - then immediately appealing it.

She added, Throw a rock and you'll hit someone with more common sense than the people Trump has surrounded himself with.

Throughout the recent negotiations with Democrats about border security, Trump has continued to appeal to his base. He held a rally for his supportersin El Paso, Texason Monday, during whichhe falsely stated that the border city went from being one of the most dangerous to safest municipalities in the country after a barrier was built at the border.

But Trumps plan did not surprise Coulter. In an interview on the Yahoo News podcast Skullduggery early this month, she predicted that Trump would go ahead with the declaration.

I think hes finally going to pull that pocket Constitution out of his lapel pocket and, Oh my gosh, Im the president. This is great, she said at the time.

Coulter voiced disapproval for the bipartisan deal that Trump agreed to, that provides $1.375 billion for 55 miles of wall, because it falls short of his original demand.

Will someone please primary this guy? she tweeted late Thursday.

Correction (02/16, 3:15 p.m.): This story originally innacurately stated that Coulter was a confidant of Trump. While she was a passionate supporter of the president, there is no evidence that the relationship was more than that.

President Trump declared a national emergency to free up funding for his border wall between the U.S and Mexico. But declaring a national emergency isnt new -- in fact, the use of emergency powers is older than the country itself. USA TODAY, Just the FAQs

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump's announcement Friday that he was declaring a national emergency wasn't receivedwell by all Republicans, none more vocal than Ann Coulter.

The conservative commentator had for weeks been bashing Trump for what she said was him caving to Democrats over his demands for additional funding to construct a wall along the southern border, even calling himthe "biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States".

On Friday, the bickeringmade its way into a nationally televised news conference where Trump announced his plans to use executive powers to declare a national emergency to free up billions in funds for the proposed wall.

"Ann Coulter. I don't know her. I hardly know her. I haven't spoken to her in way over a year but the press loves saying Ann Coulter, probably if I did speak to her, she would be very nice," Trump said, adding thatshe is "off the reservation."

Coulter fired back on Twitter, saying "He seems to think the reservation is HIM, not his campaign promises" then in another post adding she wanted Trump's words "memorialized."

She said she did not want to leave the impression that she in any way influenced the White House. "Nor did I have any influence on the captain of the Titanic, the operators of the Hindenburg or the 9/11/2001 Terrorism Prevention Team," she wrote.

She then took it a leap further while appearing on KABC's Morning Drive radio show.

"The only national emergency is that our president is an idiot," Coulter said during the show. She added that she was grateful Trump distanced himself from her.

"Thank god hes relieved me any responsibility for what hes been doing," she said, adding "That was the biggest favor anyone could do for me."

Trump brought up Coulter during a rambling news conference where he touched on China, North Koreaand some of his favorite Fox News hosts.

He was asked after his remarks if conservative media played into his decision making, to which Trump gave shoutouts to some of the big names he likes, including Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, radio host Rush Limbaugh then Coulter.

The president even pointed to coverage he enjoyed on CNN and MSNBC, who he normally rails against as "fake news."

After boasting about the conservative media personalities, Trump was pressed again over whether they affect his policy decisions. "They don't decide policy," Trump said in response.

Ann Coulter blasts Trump for lamest, sappiest’ SOTU ever …

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, who until recently was one of President Donald Trumps most outspoken supporters, ripped his State of the Union speech on Tuesday as the lamest, sappiest, most intentionally tear-jerking SOTU ever.

Coulter live-tweeted her thoughts during the nearly 90-minute speech, in which Trump appealed for unity in Washington amid gridlock over border security funding that threatens to trigger yet another government shutdown.

The 57-year-old pundit blasted Trump for barely touching on the wall during his speech.

She then criticized the president's vow that "America will never be a socialist country," rebutting: "WRONG! If you don't build a wall & deport illegals, we'll be a socialist country in about 5 years. Nice words though."

She later admitted to checking out early because she was too tired to watch the whole speech.

Coulter, who authored the book In Trump We Trust, has been one of the presidents biggest supporters, particularly for his commitment to combat illegal immigration by building a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border. But her support for the president soured amid Trumps concession to Democrats refusal to fund the border wall and reopen the government after a historic 35-day partial shutdown.

Coulter sarcastically told liberal host Bill Maher on HBOs Real Time,: OK, Im a very stupid girl, for expecting Trump to keep his promise on the border wall the government reopened with no funding for the border wall.

Ann Coulter Says Lunatic Donald Trump Should Face 2020 …

Conservative political commentator and author Ann Coulter is continuing to rip President Donald Trump for backing down from his border wall funding demand last week, calling him a lunatic who should face a 2020 primary by Republicans if he does not fulfill his campaign promise to build the barrier.

We put this lunatic in the White House for one reason, Coulter said in an interview on the Yahoo News podcast Skullduggery released on Friday. She also called Trump lazy and incompetent.

Coulter went so far as to say that Republican Representative Mo Brooks of Alabama would be terrific to challenge Trump if he does not follow through with building the wall and, I think he will be challenged.

I think for sure theres going to be a primary challenger, and its not gonna be [Senator] Jeff Flake, Coulter said.

Mo Brooks is terrific, the one who should be the senator from Alabama instead of [Senator] Doug Jones, she said, then she bashed Trumps son-in-law and senior White House adviser. But no Jared-boy [Kushner] said, Endorse Luther Strange, hes huge in Alabama.'

Trump in an Oval Office interview with The New York Times on Thursday said that negotiations with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats in Congress were a waste of money and time and energy and that he was still considering his option to declare a national emergency at the southern border with Mexico to get his wall done.

Ill continue to build the wall and well get the wall finished, Trump said. Now whether or not I declare a national emergencythat youll see.

Coulter said Trump should not declare a national emergency and instead go about getting his wall up through the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security. But Coulter said she thinks Trump will go the national emergency route.

I think Trump is gonna do that, she said. I think hes finally going to pull that pocket Constitution out of his lapel pocket and, Oh my gosh, Im the president. This is great.

The relationship between the president and Coulter, who wrote the book In Trump We Trust and was a confidante of his, soured after Coulter last Friday slammed Trump for agreeing to temporarily reopen government without any funding wall funding he demanded from Democrats.

Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States, Coulter tweeted, referring to Trump as the biggest wimp.

Trump jokingly responded, I hear shes become very hostile. Maybe I didnt return her phone call or something.

Coulter uttered very similar comments in a late December podcast interview with The Daily Caller. She said Trumps presidency would wind up being a joke and that he would leave no legacy whatsoever if the wall wasnt built.

Regarding whether Trump should be voted president again, Coulter said, Why would you?
