Ann Coulter doubles down: Trump will be ‘dead in the water …

Ann Coulter has a message for President Donald Trump: "He is dead in the water if he doesn't build that wall. Dead, dead, dead."

Several days before the partial government shutdown began on December 22, the right-wing columnist and commentator appeared on The Daily Caller's podcast, where she slammed Trump.

"Trump will just have been a joke presidency who scammed the American people, amused the populists for a while, but he'll have no legacy whatsoever," she said.

At the time, Trump signaled that he would sign a stopgap measure to keep the government funded until February 8 (a measure that was passed unanimously in the Senate) without $5.7 billion in funding for his proposed border wall.

Coulter and other conservative pundits like Rush Limbaugh were not pleased. Building a wall along the US-Mexico border was a key campaign promise.

Later in that December week, Trump did an about-face, saying he would not sign a bill that didn't have funding for the wall. A bill with border wall funding could not be passed by the deadline (not enough votes in the Senate), and on December 22 a partial government shutdown began.

Left-leaning commentators and a Republican lawmaker accused Trump of caving to Coulter, et. al. "You have two talk-radio hosts who completely flipped the president," Republican Sen. Bob Corker told reporters. "And so, do we succumb to tyranny of talk-radio hosts?"

In an interview with Vice News that aired on Tuesday, Coulter shared her frustration with the president, but also said, "as long as he makes the fight about immigration, he will win."

Coulter lashed out at Democrats for not funding the wall while "weeping" over the 800,000 federal government employees that are either furloughed without pay or working without pay and who may have missed their first paycheck last Friday saying government workers get better benefits and pensions than most people.

"Oh, gosh, they'll have to wait a few months before they know fully well they're going to be paid in full," she said. "Look, I'm not in favor of this, but previous shutdowns have been much more difficult."

The shutdown isn't just impacting federal employees: the economy is suffering, airport security and wait times have been impacted, already backlogged immigration courts have stagnated, and national parks are falling into disrepair.

Still, Coulter told Vice News, the wall is all.

"More Americans die from drug overdose every year than died in the entire course of the Vietnam War, and the vast majority of those drugs are being brought in because we have a wide-open border," she continued. "I care more about that than I care about the Yosemite gift shop being open."

This line a variation used by Trump during his primetime Oval Office address last week has been fact checked. The overdose death toll figure on its own is accurate.

"According to preliminary data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 72,000 people in the US are predicted to have died from drug overdoses in 2017 nearly 200 a day," Vox reported. Vox continued: "As with 2016, the 2017 death toll is higher than all US military casualties in the Vietnam and Iraq wars combined."

However, according to The Washington Post, the Drug Enforcement Administration says that most drugs come through legal ports of entry, not at unsupervised areas of the border, thus a wall would not necessarily stop the flow. Potent opioids like Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin, can also be ordered online from places like China.

Coulter, who was initially all-in on Trump (writing a 2016 book called "In Trump We Trust"), has also expressed dismay over his presidency. Their relationship may have soured somewhat (after recent criticism, the president unfollowed her on Twitter) though Coulter claims in the interview that Trump still keeps an ear out for her.

Trump "reads my stuff," she claimed.

Coulter said last month thatTrump'spresidency would be a "joke" if he gave in to Democrats by signing government funding legislation that didn't includemoneyto construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border.

Trump will just have been a joke presidency who scammed the American people, amused the populists for a while, but hell have no legacy whatsoever," she said in apodcast interview withThe Daily Calleron Dec. 19, adding that she would not vote for Trump in 2020 if no progress was made on his campaign promise to build a border wall.

Trump later that week said he would not sign a funding bill that didn't include $5 billion for a wall along the southern border.

That impasse with Democrats led to a partial government shutdown that has now lasted 25 days, making it the longest in U.S. history.

Coulter commended Trump this monthfor his willingness to shut down the government over his wall demand.

"Though dont worry, hell fold in the end," Coulter predicted while speaking onthe "Mark Simone Show" on710 WOR in New York.

House Democrats have passed a series of spending bills to reopen and fund most of the shuttered government agencies through Sept. 30. Those bills also would provide funding for the Department of Homeland Security through Feb. 8 to allow more time for wall negotiations.

Ann Coulter says Trump is dead in the water if he doesnt …

Ann Coulter says Trump is dead in the water if he doesnt build that wall: Conservative commentator Ann Coulter is reiterating her warnings about President Donald Trumps political prospects if he doesnt deliver on a signature issue, as she assesses why he is digging in his heels on his proposed wall for the southern border.

It is self-preservation, because he is dead in the water if he does not build that wall. Dead, dead, dead, she said, according to a Newsweek report citing a Vice News interview that aired Tuesday.

Coulter criticized Trump for being the worst negotiator God ever created for his failure to reach an agreement with the Democrats to end the partial government shutdown, which was triggered by a dispute over wall funding. She also said she has been advising the president since Election Day.

T-Mobiles stays at Trump hotel stands out: One day after T-Mobile US Inc. TMUS, +1.07% announced a $26 billion merger with Sprint Corp. S, +1.00% that needed the Trump administrations approval, nine of the wireless carriers executives had reservations at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., said a Washington Post report on the turn of events last spring.

Trumps hotel also has rented hundreds of rooms to lobbyists paid by Saudi Arabia and hosted a large meeting of the oil industrys lobbying group, but the T-Mobile case stands out because the companys executives were expected so soon after announcing they needed a win in Washington, the Post report said.

Its disturbing, because its another secret avenue for currying favor with the government, Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan watchdog group, told the newspaper.

Eric Trump, running the family business while his father serves in the White House, told the paper that the hotel has absolutely no role in politics, adding that it offers extraordinary service so it should come as no surprise that T-Mobile CEO John Legere would stay there repeatedly.

Shutdown leads to an Armed Forces branch missing out on pay for the first time in our nations history: The countrys 42,000 active-duty Coast Guard members have missed out on scheduled paychecks, as the only military branch to work without pay during the partial government shutdown, notes an NBC News report.

To the best of my knowledge, this marks the first time in our Nations history that servicemembers in a U.S. Armed Force have not been paid during a lapse in appropriations, said Adm. Karl Schultz, the Coast Guards commandant, in a tweet.

Bipartisan Problem Solvers group to meet with Trump as shutdown continues: A bipartisan group of House members was due to go to the White House for a meeting at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time Wednesday, Politico reported, adding that it didnt expect much from the meeting.

The group, which self-identifies as the Problem Solvers Caucus, is probably the group least representative of where most Republicans and Democrats are at the moment, Politicos report added.

Meanwhile, some senators are discussing sending a bipartisan letter to Trump pledging to work together on border security if the shutdown ends, according to a separate Politico article.

Senate and House leaders have said they will cancel the Martin Luther King Day Jr. recess for Congress unless there is a sudden resolution to the 26-day government shutdown, which appears unlikely given a breakdown in high-level talks, according to a Hill article.

Bill Maher Gets Booed for Booking Ann Coulter on Real Time

Real Time returned last night after a two-month hiatus, and Bill Maher wasted little time courting controversy this time from his own studio audience. During a panel discussion with former congressman Barney Frank, Maher received boos from the crowd when he announced that Ann Coulter would be on the show next week.

Yeah, thats called a newsmaker. A policymaker. Youll have to suck on that, he said in response to his audiences vocal disapproval. Coulter has appeared on Real Time on several occasions throughout the years, and the two are friends despite holding diametrically opposed political views.

It wasnt the first time Coulter was mentioned last night. During his monologue, which focused on the ongoing government shutdown as well as the latest bombshell revelations about Donald Trump and his inner circle, Maher alluded to the fact that Coulter and other Fox News personalities have the presidents ear when it comes to major policy decisions. Of course Trump was not having that. Nobody puts man-baby in the corner, Maher said of Trumps feud with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. He was like, Im not gonna let some woman push me around is Ann Coulter OK with that?'

Maher and Coulter both thrive on controversy, and neither is likely to be bothered by this response or the fact that theyre probably going to receive more boos during next Fridays episode of Real Time.

Conservatives Cry Sexism When Biden Calls Ann Coulter …

Former Vice President Joe Biden (D-BFD) became the subject of uncharacteristic criticism among conservatives when he referred to right-wing media star Ann Coulter simply as the conservative blonde woman, and blamed her for Donald Trumps government shutdown.

CNNs Randi Kaye happened to run into Biden at Philadelphia International Airport this week, and among the other subjects that came up was the current government shutdown.

Republicans overwhelmingly voted to keep the government open, Biden told Kaye, and added Then Rush Limbaugh and the conservative blonde woman says hes losing his base, and so hes changed his mind.

That exchange went viral, and drew a variety of reactions. Some cheered Bidens snub:

But to their credit, even some liberals didnt give Biden a pass for saying Limbaughs name, while failing to say Coulters:

Among conservatives, though, the complaints of sexism were as thick and rich as a foie gra milkshake:

The website Twitchydeclared Bidens comments a new front in the War on Women, and asked the rhetorical question what kind of reaction do you think it would receive if a Republican were to refer to someone on the Left as a blonde woman?

But when Trump called an actual blonde woman horseface, conservatives defended him, and that same Twitchy Dot Com defended Trump by noting that Stormy Daniels started it.

Townhall also wondered if Biden would face backlash for the comment:

Will feminist groups speak up and demand an apology from Biden for the (some would say sexist) comment? We shall see.

Even Russia Today came to Coulters defense (of course):

Obama-era vice-president Joe Biden is being called out for sexism after he referred to a radio host as a conservative blonde woman, while blaming the media for hyping up President Donald Trump to go into the government shutdown.

There is every chance that Biden just blanked on Coulters name, but these reactions are a stark demonstration of the gulf between conservatives concerns over attacks on women like, say, Michelle Obama, and this minor slight against Coulter.
