Heartbroken Trump Critic Ann Coulter: Hes a Shallow, Lazy …

Right-wing firebrand Ann Coulter, whose 2016 campaign book In Trump We Trust touted the many virtues of the Republican nominee, is having second, third, and possibly even fourth thoughts about Donald J. Trump.

I knew he was a shallow, lazy ignoramus, and I didnt care, Coulter admitted to an audience largely composed of College Republicans and a few hecklers at Columbia University on Tuesday night.

It was the sort of anti-Trump invective that Coulter would share privately with pals, including this reporter, over a wine-soaked dinner during the first year of the new administration, but in recent weeks she has increasingly voiced her displeasure in public forums.

This time, Coulterwearing her trademark slinky black cocktail dress, accessorized by a sparkling, handcuff-sized braceletrepeatedly trashed her former hero during a supposed debate in Columbias Roone Arledge Cinema with her good friend, neoliberal blogger Mickey Kaus (modeling a plain blue suit and blue patterned tie).

The ostensible focus of the conversationmoderated by Kevin Can Wait showrunner Rob Long, a rare Hollywood conservative (suitless, unshaven)was immigration policy. Its a topic on which Coulter and Kaus largely agree (namely, curb the flow of indigent, ill-educated, unskilled arrivals and get rid of the illegals who depress the wages of working-class Americans). Also on the agenda was Trumps apparent lack of interest in fulfilling his central campaign promise to erect a big, beautiful wall on the U.S. border with Mexico.

The debate also touched upon the opioid crisisagain, a catastrophe created by Mexicans. Kaus, in contrast to Coulter, argued that the United States can and should honor a long-standing tradition of admitting a reasonable number of refugees. Coulter, meanwhile, approvingly cited the strict-enforcement positions of the late Democratic congresswoman Barbara Jordan of Houston, the first African-American woman elected from the South, who argued for restricting the hiring of undocumented workersin the national interestwhen she chaired the U.S. Commission on Immigration in the 1990s.

Both Coulter and Kaus agreed that, in large part due to an anti-Trump surge, the GOP is likely to lose the House and possibly even the Senate in the 2018 midterm elections.

It kind of breaks my heart, Coulter acknowledged of her disappointment with the president, and she recounted a profanity-laced shouting match she had with Trump in the Oval Office last year over what she saw as his lackluster follow-through on immigration policy. Hes not giving us what he promised at every single campaign stop.

Longs opening question to Kaus: Mickey, if a couple of years ago you had written a book entitled In Trump We Trust, would you just feel like a total idiot right now?

Id be pretty disappointed. I might even be tweeting nasty things about our president, replied Kaus, a dutiful Democrat whose vote for Trump in November 2016 was his first for a Republican presidential or any other kind of candidate. Hes been completely feckless, Kaus added, noting that illegal immigration from Mexico declined in the initial months of Trumps presidency but then started to go back up as people started to realize that Trumps a paper tiger.

It was four nights after Coulter had aimed a bitter Twitter blast at the 45th president of the United Stateswho had complained last Friday, after signing the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill that contained generous funding for liberal social and cultural programs favored by Democrats, including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, but zero dollars for his vaunted wall, that he would never do such a thing again.

Yeah, because youll be impeached, Coulter had tweeted to her 1.94 million followers, one of whom is Trump. (Later during the debate, she repeated a report that the president was seriously considering vetoing the spending legislation, but after White House chief of staff John Kelly explained that such a veto would mean missing his planned weekend at Mar-a-Lago, Trump said f--- it! and signed the bill instead.)

Coulter laughed good-naturedly when Long asked if she, too, felt like a total idiot.

We had 16 lunatics being chased by men with nets running for presidentand Trump. So of course I had to be pedal-to-the-metal for Donald Trump.

I regret nothing. Id do the exact same thing. Id write the exact same book, with the exact same title, said Coulter, also the author of the racially charged 2015 anti-immigration screed Adios, America! The Lefts Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third World Hellhole.

We had 16 lunatics being chased by men with nets running for presidentand Trump, she continued. So of course I had to be pedal-to-the-metal for Donald Trump. Id been waiting 30 years for someone to say all these thingsi.e., that Mexicans streaming across the border were drug-dealers, rapists, and murderers, among other distasteful characterizations of foreign visitors to America. I went into this completely clear-eyed.

Then she let fly with her ignoramus insult.

Coulter, not surprisingly, was targeted by shouted epithets from one or two audience memberswho had been cautioned by a university official before the proceedings got under way to behave themselves and not interruptwhen she blamed income inequality in California on rampant immigration.

We are bringing in immigrants who are good for the very rich, she said. They dont live in their neighborhoods. They dont fill up their schools or their hospital emergency rooms. And, oh boy, you should see how clean Juanita gets the bathtub. You can eat off of it after shes done.

Youre a racist! a young man yelled from the cheap seats.

No, Im sorry, the people bringing in Juanita, the maid, and underpaying her, are the racists, Coulter shot back. You are a moron! she addedprompting a burst of applause. Youre very stupid. I cant argue with stupid people.

A half-hour later, security guys surrounded another young man after he shot up from his seat, approached the front of the auditorium where Coulter was holding forth, and began shouting: Why are you a racist and a xenophobe?... Ann Coulter has made a career on racism! Ann Coulter has said Timothy McVeigh should have bombed the New York Times building! Ann Coulter has said all terrorists are Muslim! After what happened in Dallas, do you still believe that? After what happened in Las Vegas, do you still believe that? Ann Coulter, can you answer that? Do you still believe that all terrorists are Muslim?

I do not remind him of his daughter!

Coulter, who by now is as calm handling hecklers as a Vegas lounge comedian, rolled her eyes and, as a phalanx of security men firmly steered her antagonist to the exit, retorted: Look, Ive paid you to be a plant and make liberals look stupid. Youve done your job.

Ironically, seconds earlier, Coulter had mused that if liberal Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, a tough-on-trade Democrat, would run for president in 2020, she might actually vote for him.

Near the end of the evening, Long asked Coulter if her prescription for Trumps shortcomings is less cheerleading and more tough love.

Tough love, yeah, Coulter agreed.

So you are in favor of giving the president a spanking? Long quippedthe nights only reference, and a veiled one at that, to the Stormy Daniels situation.

At which Coulter laughed and said, I do not remind him of his daughter!

Ann Coulter speaks at CU Boulder, prompts walkout

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter spent most of the first 15 minutes of her appearance at the University of Colorado put on by the conservative Turning Point USA as a free speech event deriding immigrants as ugly rapists who depress wages and block vote for Democrats.

Im totally a looksist, Coulter said. I told Donald Trump when he was running that he could completely get rid of the (Immigration and Naturalization Services) and Id do it all before breakfast on Tinder.

She opened with a shot at former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has recently taken to criticizing the Republican Party and announced plans to sue big oil companies over climate change, as proof that California is too liberal.

Thats what you get when you sleep with a Kennedy instead of a porn star, she said in reference to Schwarzeneggers ex-wife, Maria Shriver, who is a niece of President John F. Kennedy and, apparently, President Trumps alleged affair with pornographic actress Stormy Daniels.

The auditorium inside the Cristol Chemistry building on the CU campus had filled to almost capacity ahead of Coulters appearance, which started about 40 minutes late, but about 100 people stood up and walked out en masse after about 15 minutes. A man who sat on an aisle and chuckled at Coulters jokes on Muslims and immigrants chastised the people as they filed out past him.

You were taking seats away from people who wanted to be here, the man said.

Now that we have just adults in the room, I can really cut loose, Coulter said to cheers from her mostly white supporters.

Among those who left was CU student Mahmoud Aljuhani, who said he and his friends are fans of free speech, but Coulter was blurring the line between free speech and unproductive hate speech.

Ann Coulter skewers Trump over spending bill, suggests he …

Conservative commentator and author Ann Coulter skewered President Trump in a series of tweets Friday and suggested he will face impeachment after he signed a $1.3 trillion spending bill into law.

CONGRATULATIONS, PRESIDENT SCHUMER! the one-time staunch Trump supporter and author of In Trump We Trust tweeted Friday, bashing the president's work with Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Coulter, a steadfast supporter of the southern border wall, continued by sending a flurry of tweets bashing the presidents lack of action on building the border and revving up national defense spending instead.

MASSIVE DEFENSE SPENDING to induct transgenders & build BIG BEAUTIFUL walls ... in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia, she wrote.

She followed up moments later: IT'S 3-D CHESS! (There's never going to be a wall.)

Trump signed the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill on Friday despite his displeasure with its provisions and price tag. He cited the military and his duty to keep the U.S. safe as his reason for signing.

In response to him speaking at length about national security, Coulter tweeted: GOOD GOD! Will @realDonaldTrump talk about ANYTHING but defense spending???? Per Obama: The 1980s called & they want their foreign policy back.

This would be like Reagan signing a bill that hiked taxes, slashed defense spending -- but spent gobs of $$ on the Teapot Dome scandal, she continued.

During the Friday news conference, the president spoke at length about his displeasure with the bill and vowed to never sign another bill like this again. To which Coulter snarked, Yeah, because youll be impeached.

The conservative firebrand has walked back her support of the president after he failed to provide the hardline immigration policy she once hoped for.

Within the spending bill was $1.6 billion to begin building the border wall. The president vowed the construction would begin immediately.

Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham warn Trump will be impeached …

President Donald Trump signed a $1.3 trillion spending bill at the White House on Friday, and members of the far-right of the presidents party are not happy.

The legislation avoids a government shutdown and keeps the government running until September, but deficit hawks attacked the president for signing one of the largest increases in federal spending in years. Conservatives also attacked the president for signing a bill that failed to fully fund a wall on the southern border.

Trump had tweeted earlier in the day that he was considering vetoing the bill over its lack of funding for the border wall, and its failure to offer a solution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as DACA. At the signing ceremony, Trump said he thought about vetoing the bill, but ultimately deemed the legislationnecessary to create by far the strongest military weve ever had.

Many conservatives on Twitter said passage of the bill was a win for Democrats. Conservative provocateur Ann Coulter mocked the signings by tweeting "Congratulations, President Schumer," in reference to Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Fox News host and Trump supporter Laura Ingraham, meanwhile, claimed that by signing the bill, the president had furthered his chances of being impeached if Democrats win back control of the House in the 2018 midterms.

The final version of the 2,000-page bill wasnt unveiled until Wednesday, giving Congress just a few hours to read the legislation before voting on it. The short time frame prompted Trump to declare that he would never sign another bill like this again.

Nobody read it. Its only hours old, Trump said.

Ann Coulter in Boulder: Police scout California event for …

The University of Colorado and Boulder police departments sent employees to an Ann Coulter event in California last weekend to help prepare the university for the controversial commentators appearance later this week.

Coulter is scheduled to appear at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Chem 140, at a speaking event hosted by conservative group Turning Point USA.

In preparation, CU spokesman Ryan Huff said the university sent two employees to Mountain View, Calif., where Coulter spoke at a private event. Boulder police spokeswoman Shannon Aulabaugh said Boulder police also sent one person.

Huff said the employees were able to watch a a well-attended event that occurred without disruption.

On occasion, we send staff to high-profile or controversial events before they make their stops at CU Boulder, Huff added.

That was the case ahead of the Dalai Lamas 2016 visit and our hosting of the 2015 Republican presidential debate. Theres no better preparation for hosting a new event than going to another location to see how that host agency manages it. That gives us a sense of what to expect from an operational standpoint and how to best provide hospitality to our attendees.
