At the non-partisan political panel marathon Politicon this weekend, columnist Ann Coulter made some remarkable claims about marijuana during a debate with Ana Kasparian.

The topic turned to criminal justice and marijuana toward the end of a discussion featuring Coulter and Kasparian of The Young Turks, a progressive new-media news outlet, and moderated by journalist Tour.

I love marijuana, Kasparian said before making the point that despite similar usage rates, African Americans are arrested and prosecuted for weed at much higher rates than their white counterparts.

I dont care if youre black, white, Asian, Latino, doesnt matter, you shouldnt be prosecuted for marijuana possession. Thats a gigantic waste of our resources, she added.

Coulter rebutted both parts of Kasparians argument with a set of inflammatory statements.

There have been further studies where they actually drug test the person after asking Do you smoke pot, or have you smoked pot in the last week? and it turns out theres a racial difference in telling the truth on did you smoke pot? Blacks were about ten times more likely to lie and say they hadnt smoked pot, she claimed.

It is unclear what study Coulter is referring to the conservative commentator said she would email the study to moderator Tour. (The Cannabist will link to the study if it surfaces.)

An NIH study from 2008 showed more people self-reported marijuana use (15.4%) than tested positive in a hair test (14.3%). In terms of racial disparity on self-reporting, the study shows the opposite of what Coulter was claiming: Apparent overestimate of marijuana by self-report (i.e., self-report was positive and hair test was negative) was associated with being African American.

Coulter added to her claims with, Nobody goes to prison for possession.

When the crowd booed this statement, she responded: No, I know youre all potheads, and youre gonna have trouble following what Im about to say, but almost 90 percent of people in prison are in prison as a result of a plea bargain. No one gets arrested and tried for possession of marijuana but if they happen to have marijuana on them thats what they plea it down But youre not going to prison for that, youre going to prison because you held up a liquor store with a sawed-off shotgun, and they found pot on you.

(This Louisiana man, for one, might disagree with her, after being sentenced for 18 years for possession of 18 grams of weed.)

Kasparian jumped in, citing her own TEDx talk on the subject, How To Fix Americas Broken Justice System.

She summarized the portion of her talk on the privatization of prisons:

In the 1980s, because of Republican leadership, we passed a bunch of draconian laws specifically in regard to marijuana. And so our prison systems all of a sudden were just filled with people who got caught with possession of pot Entrepreneurs see that theres some you know theres an entrepreneurial opportunity here, and so you have the emergence of Corrections Corporation of America and Geo Group. Guess what they did? Theyre like, give us your nonviolent drug offenders and make us rich so your tax dollars arent really going to welfare recipients Theyre going to private industries like private prisons who have a vested interest to criminalize nonviolent individuals, particularly those who get caught with drugs.

Tour then asked Coulter if marijuana should be legal.

No. You can legalize all the drugs you want once there isnt a welfare state, but no, she said. Marijuana makes people retarded, especially when theyre young. Weve got enough bus boys. Were bringing in bus boys by the million through our immigration policy. We do not need a country of bus boys. Were destroying the country.

Kasparian responded to the same question, Absolutely. In fact, I wish you (Coulter) would smoke a joint.

Cannabis has been a punching bag for conservative firebrand Coulter for several years.

During an October 2015 Democratic presidential debate, Sen. Bernie Sanders lamented that CEOs on Wall Street walk away from financial crimes while we are imprisoning or giving jail sentences to young people who are smoking marijuana.

Coulter live tweeted:

Marijuana came up in a January 2014 interview with CNNs Piers Morgan during which Coulter detailed her personal woes with a pool cleaner she claimed was a marijuana user:

You cant get anything done with a pothead, she said. They cant perform any useful jobs.

In November 2009, she debated two of weeds most famous advocates, Richard Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, on Fox News. Responding to their plea to treat marijuana like alcohol she said, There are a lot of problems with alcohol, so we dont want two of them.

Protestors Dressed as Nazis Tried to Shut Down Ann Coulter – PJ Media

New York Timesbest-selling author, columnist, and speaker Ann Coulter was participating in a panel discussion titled "Censorship on Campus" at Politicon, an annual "non-partisan" convention that brings people of all stripes together to see their favorite pundits, politicians and more.

But before she could get in a word, two protestors dressed as Nazis started shouting her down in an effort to silence her.

It took some time for the disruptive individuals to be booted out of the room. It didn't appear that the event's organizers were prepared for this sort of thing to happen.

PJ Media was on the scene as it all unfolded.

It didn't end there.

Two more protestors against Coulter, not dressed like the first pair, were also escorted out of the room shortly after the first two individuals.

The Los Angeles affiliate for CBS News captured some of ruckus in this video:

Coulter to Trump: Move Jeff Sessions to DHS, Fire Rod Rosenstein – Fox News Insider

Stirewalt: Scaramucci Firing 'Could Be Viewed as Moment the Comeback Started'

Author Ann Coulter called for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to be moved to the Department of Homeland Security, and for Sessions' deputy to be fired.

Coulter said it was not Sessions recusing himself from the Russia investigation that led to Deputy A.G. Rod Rosenstein appointing Robert Mueller as special counsel.

She said it was President Trump's firing of James Comey and his statements to NBC News' Lester Holt linking the firing to the Russia allegations that precipitated Mueller's appointment.

"Move Sessions over to Homeland [Security]. Appoint someone else to A.G., and fire Rod Rosenstein," Coulter said.

The DHS spot is currently vacant, as Gen. John Kelly has become White House Chief of Staff.

Coulter said Rosenstein, a former U.S. attorney for Maryland, is simply an "RNC lawyer" and not someone in Trump's political orbit.

Her recommendation came following news that the House Judiciary Committee called for a second special counsel to be appointed- to probe Hillary Clinton, James Comey and Loretta Lynch.

Ann Coulter met with Trump and complained about a lack of focus on his base supporters: Report – Washington Examiner

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter met with President Trump at the White House a few weeks ago and complained about his lack of focus on his base supporters, according to a report Tuesday night.

Coulter, a staunch Trump supporter, told the president he can't afford to lose his core supporters, the New York Times reported, citing two unnamed sources briefed on the meeting. She was reportedly brought in by Steve Bannon, Trump's chief strategist.

Last month Coulter tweeted that she is fed up with Trump for not keeping some of his campaign promises.

Their meeting came before Trump openly began criticizing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has strong conservative support and is also respected by the nationalist-populist movement that helped elect the president.

Trump's criticisms about Sessions began last week, when the president told the New York Times he was disappointed that Sessions recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump has since publicly criticized the attorney general on Twitter, calling him "beleaguered" and questioning why Sessions hasn't investigated Hillary Clinton.

The comments have stoked speculation that Trump may fire Sessions, or force him to resign. Sessions is so far vowing to remain attorney general.

Coulter lashed out at Trump over his treatment of Sessions on Tuesday, and called on him to "be a man" and fire the attorney general if he isn't happy with Sessions.

‘Ivanka cried, kids died’: Ann Coulter debates Ana Kasparian and it’s totally bonkers – Raw Story

During a political debate between Ann Coulter and Ana Kasparian of the Young Turks, Coulter danced a strange line between bashing President Donald Trump while also defending him.

Coulter explained that one only need to look at what Trump promised he would do and what he has actually done. The two obviously dont match up. Coulter wondered if his supporters simply thought it would be funny to have an angry billionaire in the White House and didnt think about the actual implications on government.

As one of his vocal supporters, Coulter specifically claimed a Trump administration would be able to fix what she has called a serious immigration problem that extends beyond illegal immigration. But now that Trump is in office, no legislation has passed and the only laws that have been signed are executive orders that have been largely ceremonial or struck down by the courts.

At one point during the discussion, Coulter claimed that no one goes to prison for pot possession. In fact, 643,121 were arrested in 2015 for marijuana possession, according to DrugPolicy.org. Of those, 574,641, a full 89 percent were ultimately charged. Those that are charged and ultimately convicted are largely people of color.

Coulter also bashed Trump for the embarrassing violations of anti-nepotism laws.

Ivanka [Trump] cried. Kids died, Coulter told the crowd about Trumps airstrikes on Syria. She explained that because Trumps daughter saw children dying in the streets, Trump pivoted on his America First policy to bomb Syria. The move was largely ineffective as the administration flagged it for Russia, who in turn revealed it to the Syrians.
