Its Director Ahmad Hilmi Said, when contacted, said the films in Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs) were seized in raids conducted in Kota Kinabalu last year.
"We have been granted an order from the Magistrate's Court under Section 40 (4) of the Film Censorship Act 2002, which gives us a period of six months to discuss on the method and location of how and where to dispose of the DVDs," he said.
The case was prosecuted by Mohd Ruzumi Yaacob of the Home Affairs Ministry's Film Censorship and Enforcement Division.
Ahmad said the DVDs were confiscated under Section 18(4)(a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002, which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or three years' jail, or both, upon conviction.
He said a total of 573 pornographic movies in DVD format were also granted an order for disposal by the Magistrate's Court.
"For the seized pornographic movies, the case was probed under Section 5 of the Act, which carries a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 or up to five years' jail, or both, upon conviction," he said.
According to Ahmad, all films, movies and telemovies approved by the Film Censorship would be issued the 'A' certificate, which allows them to make copies.
He said the 'B' certificates are given by the Home Ministry for each copy of the films, movies or telemovies where the contents do not contain elements that could threaten public peace, security, religious sensitivities and socio-culture of ethnic groups in the country," he said.
He thus advised consumers to buy only DVDs that have been approved by the Film Censorship.
