SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) _ Democrat Hector Balderas has opened up a large fundraising advantage in the race for attorney general, according to the latest campaign-finance disclosures.
Balderas collected about $241,099 in cash contributions and in-kind donations of goods and services during the past six months. Republican Susan Riedel raised $34,263.
Balderas, a two-term state auditor, reported cash-on-hand of $632,031 as of last week. Riedel had a balance of $21,649 in her campaign account.
Riedel is a former prosecutor and judge from Las Cruces, and she was chief deputy district attorney in the 3rd Judicial District when Gov. Susana Martinez served as district attorney.
Monday was the deadline for political committees and candidates to file reports showing fundraising from October through early April.
There's no incumbent in the attorney general's race because Democrat Gary King is term-limited and running for governor.
Car dealers and others in the automotive industry contributed $46,200 to Balderas. Title loan and payday lending companies and a lending trade group contributed $11,200.
The Republican State Leadership Committee, a national GOP group, provided in-kind contributions of $8,000 to Riedel and Las Cruces retiree Robert Reich gave $10,400, which is the maximum amount allowed under state law for a primary and general election.
