SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) _ Democrat Hector Balderas has opened up a large fundraising advantage in the race for attorney general, according to the latest campaign-finance disclosures.

Balderas collected about $241,099 in cash contributions and in-kind donations of goods and services during the past six months. Republican Susan Riedel raised $34,263.

Balderas, a two-term state auditor, reported cash-on-hand of $632,031 as of last week. Riedel had a balance of $21,649 in her campaign account.

Riedel is a former prosecutor and judge from Las Cruces, and she was chief deputy district attorney in the 3rd Judicial District when Gov. Susana Martinez served as district attorney.

Monday was the deadline for political committees and candidates to file reports showing fundraising from October through early April.

There's no incumbent in the attorney general's race because Democrat Gary King is term-limited and running for governor.

Car dealers and others in the automotive industry contributed $46,200 to Balderas. Title loan and payday lending companies and a lending trade group contributed $11,200.

The Republican State Leadership Committee, a national GOP group, provided in-kind contributions of $8,000 to Riedel and Las Cruces retiree Robert Reich gave $10,400, which is the maximum amount allowed under state law for a primary and general election.

The candidates for the seat in Maines 2nd Congressional District had to file new fundraising totals from Jan. 1 to March 31 with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday, and the deadline is important, as its the last look the public will have at the candidates finances before the June 10 primary election.

Ahead of the deadline, Cain and Poliquin already had money leads on their opponents, Democrat Troy Jackson and Republican Kevin Raye. But the new numbers show that they widened the gap. In the quarter, the Republicans lagged well behind Democrats.

Cain, a state senator from Orono, raised $191,000 in the latest quarter, pushing her fundraising total to $492,000 with $219,000 on hand. Jackson, the Maine Senate majority leader from Allagash, has raised $240,000 total less than half of Cains reporting $103,000 for the quarter, with $71,000 on hand.

Poliquin, the former state treasurer from Oakland, raised $122,000 in the quarter, bringing his total to $492,000 over the quarter. He has spent far less than Cain so far, with $341,000 in cash on hand.

Raye, the ex-Maine Senate president from Perry, had the most disappointing quarter, with just $82,000 raised and $286,000 total. However, he hasnt spent much and has $202,000 left in his campaign coffers.

Poliquin, a wealthy businessman, has given his campaign $113,000 so far, about one-quarter of its total. However, he put in only $4,000 in the latest quarter. Without personal money, Poliquin would still lead Raye in the money race by $93,000.

YOUNGSTOWN

Of the $199,683 raised by Jennifer Garrison, a Democrat in the 6th Congressional District race, during the first quarter of the year, $107,000 came from a loan she gave the campaign with $3,666 more in in-kind contributions.

Garrisons financial contributions to her campaign represent 55.4 percent of the total amount of money she raised between Jan. 1 and March 31.

Garrison, of Marietta, an attorney and former three-term Ohio House member, loaned the campaign the $107,000 on March 24, according to a financial report filed with the Federal Election Commission. The in-kind money went primarily toward running her campaign office in Marietta for expenses such as rent, utilities and email service.

In comparison, U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, the two-term Republican incumbent from Marietta, raised $381,770 during the first three months of the year with none of it coming from him.

As of March 31, Johnson had $961,531 and Garrison had $238,1479 in their campaign funds.

Overall in this campaign, Johnson has raised $1,369,066 with $4,423 coming from him compared to $456,926 from Garrison with $135,390 from her.
