The college student who tracks Elon Musk’s private jet on Twitter is now monitoring the jet used by Ron DeSantis – Yahoo! Voices

The student who tracks Elon Musk's private jet is now doing the same for Ron DeSantis's plane.

Jack Sweeney created a new Twitter account that he said will track the governor's state-owned jet.

The @DeSantisJet account will tweet with a 24-hour delay to comply with Twitter's privacy rules.

The college student who tracks Elon Musk's private jet on Twitter has decided to give Florida governor Ron DeSantis the same treatment.

Jack Sweeney, a student at the University of Central Florida, has set up a new Twitter account, @DeSantisJet, to track the government-owned jet the politician uses.

He told Insider he set up the account because of the rising interest in DeSantis, who, next week, is expected to declare his intention to run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

On May 11 the governor signed a bill into law that will redact details about trips he makes on both state planes and private, chartered flights, including names of staff and family members traveling with him.

However, it will still be possible to monitor the movements of the state-owned jet using publicly available data from ADS-B Exchange, a flight-tracking platform. ADS-B technology allows satellites to track aircrafts and helps avoid collisions.

The account says it tracks a 10-seat Textron jet with the tail number N943FL that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement owns and issued its first tweet Friday night.

Sweeney made headlines when Musk offered him $5,000 to take down the Twitter account that tracked his private jet. Sweeney refused, so after Musk took control of Twitter, he suspended the @ElonJet account.

Musk said in a BBC News interview earlier this year that Sweeney had been "using non-public information combined with public information to track his movements," which "arguably constituted doxing." However, Musk did not say what non-public information he believed Sweeney had used.

The student got around the ban by creating a new account called @ElonJetNextDay, which posts flight-tracking data with a 24-hour delay to comply with Twitter's updated privacy policy that restricts users from sharing others' live locations.

Story continues

The DeSantis account will also use a 24-hour delay when tweeting the plane's movements.

DeSantis has been a prominent figure in the news over the past few months, largely due to his ongoing feud with Disney. The Florida governor has targeted the company's special self-governing powers in the state while Disney has accused him of trying to "weaponize government power."

On Thursday, Disney made a U-turn on its decision to build a nearly $1 billion corporate campus in Florida, The Wall Street Journal reported.

DeSantis's office did not respond to a request for comment from Insider.

Succession: Alexander Skarsgrd on Whether Lukas Matsson Is Elon Musk – Rolling Stone

If it looks like Alexander Skarsgrd is having the time of his life playing Lukas Matsson, the swinging-dick tech mogul trying like hell to outmaneuver the Roy boys while rocking a gold jacket and limited-edition kicks, no less in Succession, its because he very much is.

Im havin a blast, the towering Swede tells Rolling Stone.

Though the 46-year-old actor had already embodied memorable characters in a trio of other critically-acclaimed HBO series sexy vampire Eric in True Blood; an abusive husband in Big Little Lies; a Marine sergeant in Generation Kill his winning streak continues in Jesse Armstrongs Shakespearean screwball about three adult children that go to war over their familys right-wing media empire when the King Lear of it all, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), falls ill.

Skarsgrd is Matsson, founder of GoJo (not to be confused with the makers of Purell), a cutting-edge tech company that wants to acquire the Roy familys Waystar-Royco and ATN. Hes not only one of the richest and most powerful men in the world, but a massive Swedish troll who, when hes not tweeting out crazy Holocaust memes or harassing his communications director, seems to relish tussling with the Roys over control of their inheritance, and whose personal motto is, Privacy, pussy, pasta. Naturally, comparisons have been made between Matsson and Elon Musk. He appears to have a special connection with Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook), and, at the conclusion of Successions penultimate episode, which is mostly set at Logans funeral, promises her the position of U.S. CEO should the acquisition go through.

A very game Skarsgrd spoke with Rolling Stone about all things Succession and more.

It seems like youre having a lot of fun on the show.[Laughs] Im havin a blast. Every single day was such a treat to work on that show.

Youre in those track suits just swinging your dick around, basically.Ive been working for a number of years now and the one thing Ive learned is, Choose a comfortable outfit, because youre going to be in it for many, many hours. Sometimes you succeed; sometimes you dont. Sometimes youre stuck in wool long johns, which are very uncomfortable and itchy. But I really nailed it on this one. Its just sneakers and flip-flops and sweatpants. Incredibly comfortable.Editors picks

A lot more comfortable than your rags in The Northman.[Laughs] Yeah. We almost shot them back-to-back and going from The Northman to Succession theyre diametrically opposed, from the character to the tone to the style to the filmmaking. Robert Eggers style is very meticulously planned almost all scenes are shot with a single camera, and there are no cuts. Succession is incredibly loose and playful and fun. You can run around and there are sometimes two, three cameras rolling simultaneously. If its a dialogue scene they often have coverage of both actors, so you dont have to wait and turn around. The pace is incredibly high. Its intense but thrilling. It gives you such a rush of adrenaline when you step onto that set because its so forceful, fun, and collaborative, and it gives you the opportunity to work with some of the finest actors and writers out there. The material is so deliciously wonderful, offbeat, and weird.

You got to spill a lot of blood in The Northman, but in this oneI sent some blood! Yeah. Share the wealth! [Laughs]

Lukas Matsson shares his personal motto in Episode Nine again: Privacy, pussy, pasta. Who came up with that, and how do you feel about that life motto?I believe it was Jesse [Armstrong]. Im not sure, so dont quote me on that. But it was basically the introduction to the character the first time you meet Lukas at Kendalls weird birthday party, and hes really bored, and hes surrounded by sycophants that he finds incredibly boring. All he wants is to sit in the corner, eat pasta, and find some pussy. Thats kind of what hes after there.Related

There have been worse plans in the world.Yeah. But the fact that he drops that line to the president-elect? That says a lot about him!

What do you feel Lukass game plan is? Do you think hes just trying to buy Waystar and ATN to cover for his own companys inflated value and juiced subscriber numbers or are there other things at play? Or is he just the worlds biggest and most powerful troll?I think there are a couple of different factors that come into play. He loves a good deal. He loves to win.

The gamesmanship.Yeah. Theres something about that that Ive seen in very successful people in business. Theres something about the hustle of that winning, and feeling you got as much as you could out of that negotiation. And that can be cab fare to the airport, or a merger or acquisition totaling billions of dollars. You always want to win and feel like, I walked away a winner here. Theres something about this particular situation, with this legacy-family-dynasty company, and hes coming in as an underdog/self-made man some would argue that hes not a self-made man, and Ebba tells the brothers he just got lucky and isnt the brilliant coder he thinks he is but in his mind, he feels, This should not be possible. Im a coder from Gothenburg, Sweden. Im David and theyre Goliath. The fact that he can take them down and be the bigger shark is very exciting for him. Its not so much about saving GoJo or making more money, because hes beyond wealthy. Its about making the deal, doing something people didnt think was possible, and walking away victorious.

Whats your read on Lukas and Shiv? You and Sarah Snook have such incredible chemistry on the show, and it exists in such a unique space where people cant quite tell whether its sexual tension, a genuine connection, gamesmanship, etc.I met Sarah a few times last season when we shot the stuff at Lake Como, but we didnt have any scenes together. I was bummed over that because I think shes extraordinarily talented and also just a lovely, sweet girl. I was thrilled when I talked to Jesse before Season Four, and he laid out the plan for Matsson this year and told me Id have a really strong storyline with Sarah. I cant speak for Sarah, but I feel like we hit it off immediately. We have a very similar process where we would sit in the makeup trailer in the morning and not overanalyze or overdo the scene, but we would basically read it a few times to find the cues and the right rhythm of it. Then we would leave it for a bit, return to the set in front of the cameras, and jump straight into it. It was incredibly easy because shes so spectacularly talented and you just play off of that. In the relationship, it became obvious early on that we wanted some ambiguity. We wanted to leave it open to interpretation from the audience as to whether its a sexual connection, whether theyre playing each other, whether hes manipulating her or testing her. The writing is so spectacular that its never on the nose.

What gets you into the swaggering Matsson mindset? Are you listening to rap music in the car like Kendall on the way to the set?I try to allow myself to get bored within five seconds if someone didnt deeply, genuinely capture my attention, because I think thats a strong character trait of Matssons. Theres some attention-deficit disorder there. If you dont have him hooked within the first few seconds, his mind runs off. Then, to literally step into those shoes, and those clothes, was helpful. You step into a roomful of people in gray suits and youre wearing a gold jacket, limited-edition sneakers from Japan, and sweatpants, and you feel like an outsider. You feel like youre at a different level than the other people in the room. And you just run with that. He loves to see himself as a hand grenade thrown into rooms of these senators and investment bankers. To be a disrupter and agent of chaos is extremely thrilling to Matsson.

There have been a lot of comparisons between Lukas Matsson and Elon Musk. How do you feel about that comparison? Do you think its accurate?I definitely didnt try to play an Elon Musk character. I think its an amalgamation of different people in the tech industry and other business leaders that Ive met, seen, or read about. I tried to draw some inspiration from a lot of them and instill some ideas that I came up with in order to find something idiosyncratic about it. It wouldnt be interesting to say, Im playing Elon Musk! Thats not what I went for. Theres a lot of Elon Musk out there. Hes a very visual character and a very interesting character, but I wanted Lukas to be something else. Im sure Ive been inspired by some things Ive seen [Elon] do and other tech giants do, but I didnt go for that type of character.

Its pretty wild that hes in hot water for tweeting some antisemitic stuff, and a couple of episodes ago Lukas Mattson got in hot water for tweeting ugly Holocaust memes. Thats pretty prescient.Life imitates art! [Laughs]

Theres this great scene in the Norway episode where Lukas and Roman really go at it on top of a mountain while youre taking a piss. The dick-measuring contest gets pretty literal. So, what was it like to be locking horns with Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong on top of a mountain in Norway while your character is peeing on a rock?It was a wonderful scene to shoot. It was the first scene I had with Kieran since last year, and I really, really enjoyed working with him last year. To have that moment with him and Jeremy, whos also super fun to work with I was super giddy going to the set that day because Id be reunited with the two of them. When it gets intense with Roman, we tried it at first with Kieran coming up and standing next to me because Im peeing on the edge of a rock, basically and it never felt heated enough. Im standing on a tall boulder and Im already quite taller than Kieran, so it never got face to face and intense. Kieran had the brilliant idea of jumping onto the rock I was peeing on, crouching on that, and getting in my face as I was peeing in his direction, a couple of inches below his feet. It gave the scene so much more vitality and intensity.Trending

Matsson is loving every second of it because he kind of assumed the brothers were charlatans who didnt have what it took. He admired Logan. He thought he was a big brute of a man but impressive and a worthy opponent. Hes self-made, savvy, smart, relentless, and hard-working a lot of character traits Lukas admires that the brothers clearly dont have. This was a moment where it became obvious to Lukas that they dont have what it takes, because within minutes Roman is screaming and admitting theyre trying to tank the deal. Its clear he doesnt have the savviness his father had in deep negotiations. Like he says, You fucked yourself. That dynamic was fun to play, where one character is so animated, frustrated and sad, and the other one is sadistically enjoying every second of it because hes watching Roman dig his own grave.

You have a different peeing scene in Infinity Pool. Theres a very different outcome to the one here than the one in Infinity Pool [In Infinity Pool, Mia Goths character sneaks up on Skarsgards while hes peeing and gives him a handjob.] Although I have to say, the Sundance version contained quite a bit more. [In the Sundance version, you see a close-up shot of the penis ejaculating.][Laughs] They do! Yeah. It would have been nice if the scene in Succession ended with Roman doing a reach-around like Mia Goth did. It would have taken an interesting turn.

Elon Musk keeps tweeting conspiracy theories despite Twitter advertiser worries – Vox.com

Despite criticism for continuing to engage with conspiracy theories, Elon Musk is posting through it.

In the past five days, Musk has doubled down on a conspiracy theory about the Allen, Texas, shooter; tweeted that billionaire philanthropist George Soros (who has long been the target of antisemitic conspiracy theories online) wants to erode the very fabric of civilization and hates humanity; and promoted a quickly debunked rumor that falsely claimed Washington Post journalist Taylor Lorenz was related to the founder of the Internet Archive.

When CNBC reporter David Faber asked Musk about his promotion of conspiracy theories in a live interview on May 16, Musk acknowledged that he does support these theories, like the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, because some of these conspiracy theories like the Hunter Biden laptop story have turned out to be true. When Faber pressed Musk about whether his promotion of conspiracy theories is hurting Twitters reputation with advertisers, Musk was defiant.

Ill say what I want to say, and if the consequence of that is losing money, so be it, said the billionaire.

Musks argument is that because conspiracy theories can sometimes be true, its okay to entertain them. Musk is correct that the Hunter Biden laptop story did turn out to be real, even though many in the media questioned its initial veracity. Twitter, the company Musk now owns, even controversially blocked the New York Post story breaking the news. Its also true, as my colleague Zack Beauchamp has explained, that there can be valid, non-antisemitic reasons to criticize powerful figures like Soros.

But many of the conspiracy theories Musk has promoted to his 140 million Twitter followers have proven false. And some argue theres potential danger in Musk spreading misinformation or heated rhetoric. The way Musk characterizes Soros, for example, stands to embolden extremists, according to Anti-Defamation League president Jonathan Greenblatt. Musk accused Greenblatt of defaming him and vehemently denied hes personally antisemitic, saying if anything that hes pro-semite, in the recent CNBC interview.

Lets clarify right out the gate that Musk has a First Amendment right to say what he wants, with some limited legal exceptions. And as the owner of Twitter, a private company, he has the final word on what speech is or isnt allowed on Twitter. But because Musk is the leader of the platform and one of the richest, most influential people in the world, his actions have consequences, both tangible and symbolic. Moreover, Musks tweets serve as a hindrance to the very real challenges Twitter faces to win back more advertisers who have left the brand, in large part over concerns about Musks behavior.

Musks engagement with conspiracy theories in recent weeks hasnt been direct. Hes been described as flirting with these theories, oftentimes replying to a conspiracy theory tweet rather than directly tweeting it himself. Hes often taken a just asking questions approach, especially on subjects where theres an information void.

For example, the week of the recent Texas shooting, early coverage of the incident, including that of open source intelligence research group Bellingcat, claimed that the suspected shooter was a white supremacist, based in part on his social media activity. Soon after, Musk jumped into the fray. He responded to a cartoon meme posted by an account called The Redheaded libertarian that raised questions about whether the suspected shooter, who is of Hispanic origin, could really be a neo-Nazi, and whether his account on a Russian social media app was legitimate.

Didnt the story come from @bellingcat, which literally specializes in psychological operations? I dont want to hurt their feelings, but this is either the weirdest story ever or a very bad psyop! Musk replied.

Bellingcat founder Eliot Higgins has long denied theories about his organization having ulterior motives, saying in a past interview that its contributors are just people with laptops and free time. But even if you dont believe Higgins or Bellingcat on the subject of the Texas shooter, you dont have to take their word for it. Thats because Texas law enforcement confirmed on May 9, the same day Musk posted his initial tweet casting doubt on the shooters white supremacist ties, that the suspected shooter had Neo-nazi ideation as confirmed by patches and tattoos on his body.

Despite this additional evidence, Musk doubled down on his disbelief about the shooters ideology a week later in the CNBC interview, saying there is no proof that the shooter was a white supremacist. Either Musk doesnt know about or is choosing not to mention law enforcements account here. That doesnt mean theres never reason to question public officials account of a crime, but Musk didnt do that here; he just avoided acknowledging a notable piece of evidence that contradicts his theory.

Race and crime seem to be points of particular interest for Musk. Last week, he replied to a tweet that contained a chart claiming to show that Black-on-white crime is higher than that of other categories of crime by race. Many have criticized the chart for being skewed, but Musk seemed to endorse it. Odd, why would the media misrepresent the real situation to such an extreme degree? Musk tweeted.

Others have said that the chart Musk is referencing is misleading because its adjusted for percentage of the population: Because white people account for a larger percentage of the US population, it makes sense that they are victims of crime in larger numbers. Also, the chart didnt include white-on-white crime, which is among the highest buckets of crime broken down by race in the US.

As with many of Musks conspiracy-theory-flirting tweets, when put together, we start to see a fuller picture emerge: a specific grievance. In this case, its how the media portrays race and crime.

Its notable that Musk is tweeting controversial tweets during a particularly critical moment for the future of Twitter.

The company has lost more than half of Twitters top 1,000 advertisers since Musk took over in November, according to January data from analytics company SensorTower. Some major companies, like Disney, Amazon, and Apple, have continued to spend money on the platform, and Musk has said other advertisers are coming back. But hell need more advertisers in his corner if he wants to turn Twitters business around.

Musk announced last week that former NBCUniversal advertising executive Linda Yaccarino will be replacing him as CEO. Given her street cred in the advertising industry, shes seen as someone who can help repair Twitters reputation with major brands.

If anyone can do it, its Linda, one advertising executive, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told me last week. It looks as though Yaccarino has already managed to help bolster Twitters image with GroupM, one of the top advertising agencies in the world. The agency, which is owned by WPP, had designated Twitter as a high-risk company for its clients to advertise with, but, according to the Financial Times, recently removed the designation.

If Musks tweets were gaining him positive attention or drawing attention away from some other, bigger issue, you could say his tweets serve as a useful distraction or a savvy way of gaining free media coverage. Instead, Musks behavior is self-destructive. His controversial tweets could exacerbate the most pressing problem with Twitter: its relationship with advertisers.

Musks continued conspiracy theory flirtation threatens to stymie any progress Twitter is making on that front. Back in November, Musks tweet promoting a conspiracy theory about the violent attack on Nancy Pelosis husband was seen as one of the turning points for many advertising industry insiders in their assessment about whether or not to continue advertising on Twitter.

Its clear that Musks repeated promotion of conspiracy theories has real consequences for his business. If theres a deeper reason for why Musk continues to promote these theories despite the consequences beyond merely saying what he wants to say is anyones guess. Whatever the reasoning, Musk is posting through the firestorm and getting all kinds of attention for it. Maybe that alone is worth the trouble.

‘Absolutely not’: Americans weigh in on whether Kamala Harris can lead on AI after Elon Musk mocked her – Fox News

Vice President Kamala Harris wouldn't be able to effectively run the White House's response to artificial intelligence if she's charged with leading it, some residents of the nation's capital told Fox News.

"I don't know if Kamala Harris has the background and the tech knowledge to really get a grasp on what AI can do and what its capabilities are, to be able to wrangle it in a space that is safe for everyone and not just beneficial for large corporations," Eric told Fox News.

But another D.C. local, Marlena, said: "I definitely trust her on the task force. She's a brilliant woman, extraordinarily accomplished."

She was the only person Fox News interviewed who had faith in Harris' ability to handle the White House's AI response.

Harris met with the top executives from OpenAI, Microsoft and Alphabet earlier this month to discuss AI-related risks and opportunities. Afterward, the vice president faced criticism from Elon Musk and others who questioned her expertise in the field.

"Maybe someone who can fix their own WiFi router wouldnt be too much to ask," Musk tweeted about Harris' potential role.

Several D.C. residents echoed similar sentiments.

"I'm not sure I trust Kamala Harris to run point, but I certainly hope that she gets the job done," Devonne said.

Jo said Harris should "absolutely not" lead the White House's AI response "because I don't believe she's done a good job at all as vice president."

Others said it would take an industry expert or a panel of them to regulate AI.

"I don't know if putting one person who may or may not possess that particular expertise in charge is a great idea," John told Fox News. "That takes real specialized knowledge and there's so many different ethical considerations, all sorts of various things."

Others said they can't trust Harris to excel in AI since they haven't seen her succeed in other areas.

"I would say no because I have no knowledge of what her track record is at this point of anything," Keisha told Fox News.

Another man said: "No, because we have not seen her do anything at all."

Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Italy’s Unipol join forces to help Italians hit by flooding – Reuters

MILAN, May 20 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's SpaceX and Unipol Gruppo (UNPI.MI) agreed to join forces to help people hit by flooding in northern Italy connect to the Internet, facilitating rescue operations, the Italian insurer said on Saturday.

Torrential rains devastated the eastern side of the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, killing 14 people, causing billions of euros worth of damage and hitting agriculture particularly hard.

Around 36,000 people were forced to leave their homes and many of those who remained in flooded areas were left with no electricity. Rescue efforts are hampered by persistent bad weather and disruptions on phone lines

Under the agreement, Unipol acquired SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet terminals and will make them available for rescuers, hospitals and the public. SpaceX is positioning its satellites to prioritise the Emilia-Romagna region and provide improved coverage.

"SpaceX, Starlink and Tesla are happy to be of use in any way to help Italy and the people affected by the flooding", Musk said in a statement.
