Eric Holder accused of inciting the mob

Published: 2 days ago.

Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder accused Attorney General Eric Holder during a nationally televised interview of fueling Ferguson-related fires with partisan rhetoric and misplaced outrage.

I just wish he had been more judicious and measured in his comments, Kinder said during an Americas News HQ interview on Fox News. Because Mr. Holder came in and seemed on many occasions to be inciting the mob. He seemed to be putting his weight on the one side of the scales of justice and not backing up law enforcement.

Kinder said hes not spoken directly with Holder but thats mostly because the attorney general has disdained from speaking with those in the camp of siding with police over the recent officer shooting of teenage Michael Brown.

No, no, no, he doesnt bend to speak with people like me, Kinder said, according to Breitbart. He comes into town and meets with one side. He met with the family of Michael Brown, and thats fine that he met with them. But he did not meet with the family of officer Darren Wilson or with his brother and sister officers to say, Im backing you up.

A grand jury and the Department of Justice cleared Wilson of any wrongdoing in the shooting of Brown. But the Justice Department did release a report that detailed what investigators described as systematic discrimination on the part of the city police and officials toward members of the minority community.

As Loretta Lynch Languishes, Eric Holder Feels the GOP Love

In a speech Wednesday at a Washington think tank, outgoing (at least in theory) Attorney General Eric Holder joined fellow Democrats in dialing up the pressure on Republicans who still havent held a vote to confirm his successor, Loretta Lynch, even though theyve kept her waiting longer than almost anyone else whos been considered for the job.

While he was at it, Holder whos spent so much time in the hot seat being grilled by angry Republican lawmakers that he could've used some asbestos Underoos got in a nice personal dig at the GOP, too.

First, the setup:

Theres no place Id rather be in my closing days as attorney general than here, with you all, Holder said at a Center for American Progress event marking the year anniversary of President Barack Obamas My Brothers Keeper initiative. Or at least, these should be my closing days.

Then, the kill shot:

Given the Senates scheduling and delays in considering Loretta Lynchs nomination for a vote, its almost as if the Republicans in Congress have discovered a new fondness for me, Holder deadpanned as the audience chuckled. Im feeling love there that I havent felt for some time. Where was all this affection over the last six years?

Holder was joking, sort of, especially compared with the heat Hill Democrats and at least one outsider Republican are putting on Republicans for blocking the appointment of the first African-American woman attorney general.

On Tuesday, the Congressional Black Caucus all but called the GOP holdup an act of racism, strongly suggesting that the all-white nearly all-white Republican Senate delegation doesnt want a black woman to become the nations top cop.

"I think race certainly can be considered a major factor in the delay, Democratic Rep. G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina, the caucus chairman, told reporters on a press call.

Eric Holder on Loretta Lynch vote: Almost as if Republicans 'have discovered a new fondness for me'

Attorney General Eric Holder took an indirect shot at congressional Republicans Wednesday over the delay in the confirmation vote of his would-be replacement, Loretta Lynch, asking where the love hes currently feeling from the Hill has been for the past six years.

There is no place Id rather be in my closing days as attorney general than here with you all, he said Wednesday at a Center for American Progress event on a one-year update of the White Houses My Brothers Keeper initiative.

Well, at least these should be my closing days, he said. Given the Senates scheduling and delays in considering Loretta Lynchs nomination for a vote, its almost as if the Republicans in Congress have discovered a new fondness for me. Im feeling love there that I havent felt for some time.

Where was all this affection over the last six years, you know? he said.

Congressional Republicans have strongly criticized Mr. Holders tenure as President Obamas attorney general. But a spat over anti-human trafficking legislation on the Hill this week has held up Ms. Lynchs nomination for the time being meaning Mr. Holder still holds his current position.

Attorney General Holder Jokes Republicans Have 'A New Fondness For Me'

Attorney General Eric Holder joked Wednesday that given nearly six months of Senate delays in confirming his successor at the Justice Department, "it's almost as if the Republicans in Congress have discovered a new fondness for me."

"I'm feeling love there that I haven't felt for some time. And where was all this affection the last six years?" the attorney general asked, to laughter, in brief remarks at the Center for American Progress in Washington.

Holder has endured a rocky relationship with lawmakers during his tenure. In 2012, he became first attorney general to be held in contempt by the GOP-controlled House of Representatives over his refusal to turn over documents in the 'Fast and Furious' gun-trafficking scandal.

But even though he announced his intention to resign in September 2014, Senate leaders have slow-walked the confirmation process for his would-be replacement, Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch.

The White House this week said Lynch, who had twice been confirmed to other top law enforcement posts with no negative votes, had waited 130 days for the full Senate to take action on her nomination to be the country's chief law enforcement officer longer than the previous five attorney general nominees, combined.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has said he will work to move ahead with a human trafficking bill before scheduling a floor vote for Lynch. Since the Senate next week may consider budget issues, and then take a two-week break, action on the attorney general nomination may wait until mid-April. If she's approved, Lynch would be the first African-American woman to run the Justice Department. Lynch herself is relatively non-controversial, but she's suffered in part because of conservative displeasure about President Obama's executive action on immigration.

Sen. Richard Durbin, a high ranking Illinois Democrat, took to the Senate floor Wednesday morning under a poster of Loretta Lynch to complain that "no one laid a glove on her" during her eight-hour-long hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Durbin said "there's no good reason" for the lengthy delays and said she's been "asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar."

Through spokesman Brian Fallon, Holder reiterated his commitment to stay in office until the Senate moves on his successor. "In case it's lost on GOP, Holder is staying til Lynch confirmed. The longer Senate delays, the longer he is AG," Fallon tweeted.
