The European Union on Tuesday pledged to support the Bauchi State Government in the areas of health, agricultural processing and electricity, to improve the living standard of the people.
The EUs Ambassador and Head of Delegation to Nigeria, Mr Michel Arrion, said this when he visited Governor Isa Yuguda.
Arrion said he was in the state to familiarise himself with the state, the needs of the people and to also identify areas of cooperation with the state government.
He said that having gone round to assess the rate of development in the state, the union had decided to support the state in the areas of power, health and agro-processing.
As far as our cooperation is concerned, we are very interested in developing intervention in the area of primary health care and immunisation of children, as well as provide full package of medical care to patients, particularly mothers and children.
We are also very much interested in developing the states agricultural sector under the value chain transformation agenda, with particular interest in agro-processing.
We have already discussed with the state authorities on the possibility of supporting the transformation of the agricultural sector, including the provision of logistics, construction of warehouses, and feeder roads.
This is basically to help in the transition from subsistence to commercial farming. which is very important in terms of economic growth and fighting poverty, Arrion said.
The ambassador added that the union would also support the state in improving its electricity generation and transmission, especially in rural areas.
Another sector we are looking at is power. We hope to extend existing grids because of the states booming population due to the influx of internally displaced persons.
