Samsung Galaxy S4 software update to enable SD card installation

June 7, 2013 - 15:35 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Samsung is reportedly distributing a software update for its Galaxy S4 smartphone that allows users to install apps to their microSD cards, Digital Spy said.

The South Korean firm was criticised for not enabling the feature at launch following word that pre-loaded software accounts for almost 50% of the memory on 16GB models of the device.

SamMobile claims that the free software update has begun its rollout in Germany via the Kies PC software and over the air, but there is no news on when it will arrive in the UK.

The update also increased the amount of available store on the Galaxy S4 to 9.2GB and brings new features, such as interface refinement, new camera firmware and the option to record high dynamic range video.

Samsung is believed to be working on an alternate version of the Galaxy S4 with the bare-bones Android operating system on board, but it is unknown how much free space this model will offer.

The water and dust-proof Active model was officially announced earlier this week.

onOne Software Announces Availability of Perfect Photo Suite 7.5 for Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Photoshop …

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwired - June 04, 2013) - onOne Software, Inc., the leading developer and provider of photo effects for everyone, today announced the availability of Perfect Photo Suite 7.5 for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Apple Aperture, and as a standalone application. The update includes a new Quick View Browser, refinements to the Perfect Brush, tested compatibility with the upcoming Lightroom 5, performance improvements, and general bug fixes. Also included since the initial launch of Perfect Photo Suite 7 are tools that tackle problems commonly encountered in photo editing -- Red Eye reduction tools and a Clone Brush that removes distractions.

"We are happy to deliver these new updates in Perfect Photo Suite 7.5," said Craig Keudell, president of onOne Software. "They are part of our continuing efforts to improve our software. We are a small company, made up of photography lovers, and we're always looking to improve what we do and how we do it to support photographers of all skill and interest levels to help them create the images they love."

The updates in Perfect Photo Suite 7.5 include:

Quick View Browser: The Quick View Browser gives users the ability to see all of their images, effects or presets in a full-screen gallery. In Perfect Layers, it makes it easy to browse image folders and quickly navigate through images. In Perfect Effects and Perfect B&W, the Quick View Browser showcases effects or preset categories on an image at one time, making it easy to compare and select amongst them.

Perfect Brush Improvements: Refinements have been made to the Perfect Brush to give users even more control. Previously, the Perfect Brush only allowed for continuous sampling of colors under the center of the brush while performing edge-detecting masking. Now, it can lock on a sampled color while masking, which is helpful when brushing through complex areas such as branches and window panes.

Red Eye Reduction Tools: Two solutions for red eye reduction are available in Perfect Photo Suite 7.5. In Perfect Portrait, red eye reduction is built into the automatic face detection feature. In Perfect Layers, the Red Eye tool is available as a brush, which can be dabbed to remove red eyes caused by flash photography.

Clone Brush: The Clone Brush quickly and effectively removes distractions in photos, such as power lines or people. The brush feather and opacity may be adjusted, and any shape or object may simply be painted over.

Microsoft's software update to bring Outlook to Surface tablet, other Windows RT devices

By The Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO - Microsoft will add its popular Outlook email program to more tablets running on a lightweight version of its Windows operating system as part of a free software update this year.

The Outlook 2013 app will be given to owners of Microsoft's Surface tablet and similar devices running Windows RT. That's a slimmed down version of Windows 8, a radical overhaul of the ubiquitous operating system used on most personal computers.

Microsoft Corp. is preparing to modify Windows 8 in response to consumer complaints about the redesigned system released last October. The Redmond, Wash., company announced the addition of Outlook for Windows RT tablets Wednesday at a computer trade show in Taiwan.

A specific release date still hasn't been set for the upcoming update, called Windows 8.1.

Windows 8 includes touch-screen controls and displays applications in a mosaic of interactive tiles as part of an attempt to expand the system on to tablets. The operating system also remains compatible with keyboards, computer mice and programs created for traditional PCs.

The dual format has confused and frustrated some long-time users, contributing to lukewarm sales for devices running on Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Windows RT's omission of Outlook was among the grievances. Outlook's absence was magnified by Microsoft's inclusion of other popular programs, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, on the Surface tablet and other Windows RT devices. Unlike Windows 8 tablets, RT devices can run only programs specifically designed for it, so it hasn't been possible to buy Outlook separately.

The Outlook announcement came as Microsoft showcased previously announced features of Windows 8.1 at the Computex show in Taiwan. Tami Reller, chief financial and marketing officer of the company's Windows Division, said the 8.1 update took into account input from consumers on the Windows 8 system.

"Windows 8.1 furthers the bold vision of Windows 8 by responding to customer feedback and adding new features and functionality that advance the touch experience and mobile computing's potential," Reller said.
