Flexera Software's InstallShield 2013 Enables Installations in the Latest 64-Bit, Application Virtualization, Cloud …

SCHAUMBURG, IL--(Marketwired - Jun 4, 2013) - Flexera Software, the leading provider of Application Usage Management solutions for application producers and enterprises, announced today the launch of InstallShield 2013.The new release helps application producers and their customers take advantage of the latest technology trends by greatly simplifying the preparation and installation of applications to 64-bit and virtual environments, and to Microsoft's latest platforms.

"Installation is a critical component of our internal development process, and our customers' experience with our solutions.Ensuring a fast, efficient and intuitive installation experience is critical," said Ron Guggisberg, Senior Software Engineer at Matrix Systems, an industry leader in access control and security management solutions."The new capabilities announced today demonstrate why InstallShield remains an industry-leading solution to this day.I'm very impressed with the complex installation problems it solves, which will save us time and money as we develop installations for our solutions across complex environments."

Pure 64-Bit Installations

Installations that run 64-bit from end-to-end are necessary to deploy applications in the modern datacenter where Windows Server Core is becoming increasingly prevalent.InstallShield 2013 helps software producers complete this transition by creating pure 64-bit installations for their 64-bit applications.

Extending Installation Support for the Latest Windows Technologies

Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 represent major updates of the Windows platform, offering new user experience design concepts, configuration options, and development platforms.Application producers want to ensure their application installations look and feel consistent with the most up-to-date, Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 experience.InstallShield 2013 helps validate conformance to Microsoft best practices through an updated advanced user interface (UI) designer, enabling application producers to create contemporary install experiences using new Wizard design capabilities. It also allows developers to designate which of their application shortcuts should be "pinned" to the Start screen, ensuring a seamless, customized installation for the end-user.

Moreover, with datacenter transformation projects underway fueling automation in the enterprise, including migrations to Windows Server 2012, it's critical for application producers to support automation in their installation setups.InstallShield 2013 is the first solution that includes installation controls over Windows roles and features, eliminating the need to include manual installation tasks in the documentation.

PowerShell, the standard enterprise scripting language on both Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, is commonly used to automate software and machine configuration tasks.InstallShield 2013 enhances its existing PowerShell support with PowerShell script, which is now available in Suite/Advanced UI Projects. This gives producers more options to streamline installation actions and support their customers' best practices.

"Windows Server 2012 introduced groundbreaking new functionality and hundreds of new PowerShell commands to help administrators in their daily tasks," said Brian Hillger, Director, Server and Tools Marketing at Microsoft."InstallShield 2013 builds on Windows Server 2012 and PowerShell to help streamline deployment of the latest technologies."

Joint mentoring programme of ICFOSS, ASF

Thiruvananthapuram, June 4 (IANS) State-owned International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) will have a joint mentoring programme with the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) to identify talented software developers from Kerala.

The ASF is one of the largest and most reputed producers of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in the world.

The programme targeted at young developers with demonstrable programming skills -including students and fresh graduates - will start off with a three-day boot camp June 17-19.

The programme will be led by Luciano Resende, ASF vice president, Community Development.

At the end of the workshop, the participants will identify an ASF project of their interest, and then produce a software project proposal which will be short-listed for the mentoring programme by the ASF.

During the three-month project-implementation phase, the participants will interact with the ASF volunteers who will help them and bring them up to speed in areas where they require support.

"The ASF has been participating in several mentoring initiatives around the world, and for the first time in India, it's now partnering in a pilot project with ICFOSS," said Resende.

ICFOSS director Satish Babu said the larger objective of the programme is to create a group of FOSS developers in Kerala who will be able to fit well into global teams.

Verivo Software Transforms Itself to Meet Market Demand and Unveils Open Enterprise Mobility App Platform

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Verivo Software, the enterprise mobility company, today announced Verivo Akula a new mobile app platform designed to radically simplify the complexities of building, securing and controlling custom enterprise apps. Verivo has also dramatically transformed its go-to-market strategy to meet todays market demands. The company will be offering free trials of its software and is, once again, setting the pricing standard for the industry with its simplified and predictable pricing model.

Akula is the first mobile app platform that allows users to effectively build and execute on transactional business apps even when the user is out of coverage range. It also allows IT operation teams, such as help desks, to control and manage the operations of these apps, while meeting rigorous security requirements. Akula is the only enterprise mobile app platform that has been designed from the start to be deployed on-premise or in the cloud.

The Making of Verivo Akula (pronounced Ah-KOO-lah)

Akula, built in collaboration with Verivos diverse group of enterprise mobile customers and partners, is designed to address the major challenges of building and managing custom enterprise apps in a novel way. Akula gives developers the freedom to use any standard development tool to build and update apps. The platform also makes it extremely easy to deploy, secure, monitor and troubleshoot these apps in todays multi-device, multi-operating system environments.

The Verivo team built this entirely new product in a modular, extendable manner so additional capabilities can be quickly incorporated into the platform to meet market demands of today and tomorrow. Akula has a very light footprint, is holistically designed and easily scalable. The platform integrates easily into existing corporate environments and is compatible with todays mobile ecosystem, including front-end, testing and proprietary tools.

Open API projects will continue to evolve and be top-of-mind for mobile app developers, said Charlotte Dunlap, senior analyst, Application Platforms, Current Analysis. With mobile app platform vendors, such as Verivo Software, opening up their technology and delivering new ways to build and manage enterprise mobile apps, developers are further empoweredto meet the needs of the evolving market.

New go-to-market strategy

Verivo is changing its business strategy to cater to the way developers and corporate users build and manage their mobile initiatives. The company will primarily engage, educate and sell online. Users can download Akula and try the platform for 30 days at no cost. They will have full access to Verivos support and DevCenter and all product documentation and tutorials will be open to the public.

Verivo is also introducing predictable and incremental pricing so a company can use the product in phases starting with just development licenses to deploying a pilot of their app to expanding to a full scale deployment. This progressive pricing model allows a company to try the software without paying premium prices upfront. It can then expand its mobile initiative with the knowledge of what the incremental project costs will be versus adopting the per-app or per-transaction models that are prevalent in the industry.
