i-Free, Tinkoff Credit Systems Bank and MasterCard come together to introduce first NFC wallet with remote Mobile …

MOSCOW--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

i-Free company introduced the first full-featured NFC wallet in Russia and CIS. Embedded in smartphones and the TSM (Trusted Service Manager) platform, the wallet brings all the advantages of NFC technology to Russian and CIS consumers, including the remote issue and secure download of Mobile MasterCard PayPass cards.

Both the NFC wallet and the TSM platform were developed by i-Free specifically to support mobile contactless payment technology. Three services are available to users: the Mobile MasterCard PayPass payment card issued by Tinkoff Credit Systems Bank, transportation fare cards for a number of regional centers in Russia, and a geolocation-based coupon service. Until now, such services have only been available to a small number of users, but this announcement heralds the beginning of broader commercial use.

A package solution including NFC wallet and TSM platform allows users to significantly extend the usefulness of their smartphones, transforming the device into a universal storage unit for the latest smart cards and their associated applications.

This new solution is radically different from current NFC solutions available in Russia and the CIS in that it enables users to download payment, transportation and other cards in the same way as they download games and apps. All the user needs to do to make a payment at a point-of-sale is to touch contactless reader that supports the MasterCard PayPass technology with their phone. Both the NFC wallet and TSM platform comply with the highest security standards, and are protected against fraud at the software and hardware levels. The TSM platform also complies with all required industrial standards, and takes into account the requirements and specifications of the Russian transportation infrastructure.

The NFC wallet offers not only the basic functions of Mobile MasterCard PayPass card download and use in retail and service outlets, but also the ability to pay for goods and services from within the application itself. The user can buy a ticket for public transportation or download a coupon and pay for it with a bank card in a single click.

Today, the NFC wallet is integrated into three smartphone models the Philips W336, the HTC One and the HTC One SV. The application supporting the wallet is embedded in the phone as a part of the system software, which ensures the compatibility with the hardware characteristics of those specific phone models and makes available all the functionality of the Android platform.

"The smartphone with NFC wallet support will significantly increase market share in the coming months. According to our estimates no fewer than one million such phones will appear on the Russian market before the year is out, says Pavel Sokolov, i-Frees project leader. When we were creating the NFC wallet, we took into account that we were developing an application that people would use every day, so we focused on making the wallet secure and easy to use by anyone. That is why we designed a simple, self-explanatory user interface and embedded many functions so that using the app would be intuitive.

i-Free TSM platform support for NFC-compatible SIM-cards from mobile carriers will be added in the nearest future, which will provide access to bank, transportation, and other service providers for a broader consumer audience.

Kirill Gorynya, Head of i-Free Innovations commented: This is the first full-featured NFC solution on the Russian and CIS market and we hope that its arrival will encourage interested companies to create and implement NFC compatible services to meet the needs of todays mobile consumers. International experience shows that there is a high demand for NFC services in different areas of life and business across widely different social groups.

Executive's guide to software-defined networking (free ebook)

Summary: SDN holds great promise for our increasingly overtaxed networks. Learn how SDN works, how it's being used, and what lies ahead for this transformative technology.

Today's networks are facing the increasing pressures of mobility and BYOD, social media usage, and Big Data analytics. More bandwidth is required to support these trends, and IT is being challenged to reduce latency and deliver acceptable performance for cloud-based applications and services.

One response to the escalating demand for faster, more efficient networks has been the emergence of software-defined networking (SDN). It's still early days for SDN, with adoption being confined largely to industry giants such as Google. But as SDN matures, it could play a critical role in helping organizations define, provision, and manage their networks.

ZDNet and TechRepublic created an ebook that will help familiarize you with SDN: what it is, what benefits it offers, how it is currently being implemented, and where it's headed.

The ebook is available as a free PDF download for registered ZDNet and TechRepublic members. If you're not already a member, you can click here to register. It only takes a moment.

3L ports 3L Diamond multiprocessing software tools to CommAgility DSP board

EDINBURGH, Scotland, June 3,2013 /PRNewswire/ -- 3L Ltd, the premier provider of software tools to simplify multiprocessing, today announced availability of its 3L Diamond suite for use with the CommAgility AMC-2C6678 high performance DSP/FPGA card.

Under continual evolution since 1987, 3L Diamond auto-magically handles the interconnection management when tasks are moved to different cores or devices. Engineers are free to focus on the application instead of the irritating minutiae of the connectivity. This freedom helps maximise the benefits of the C6678 multicore DSPs from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), built on the KeyStone architecture.

The AMC-2C6678 is a single-width, full-sized AMC card powered by two of TI's latest TMS320C6678 DSPs, each with eight 1.25GHz C66x cores. It is ideal for a range of high performance DSP/FPGA processing applications. The board also includes a Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA and a 20Gbps per port Serial RapidIO infrastructure.

The CommAgility AMC-2C6678 is the latest of many pre-installed hardware platforms supported within 3L Diamond. Each licence includes access to all supported devices and boards. Copious royalty-free examples and tutorials demonstrate the creation and simple movement of tasks around available hardware.

"With 3L Diamond, moving tasks between devices and cores becomes a trivial effort. The main perceived complexity of multicore development is removed and engineers can focus on the application," said Guy Hunter, responsible for Sales and Business Development at 3L. "Whether migrating legacy code or deciding on the best topology, the flexibility provided by 3L Diamond dramatically reduces risks of project delays associated with change."

Dr Peter Robertson, Founder of 3L Ltd, said, "From the earliest days of parallel processing, we identified that access to the processing power needed to be simplified. Evolving through support for devices like the Transputer and 'C40, 3L Diamond provides proven, simple access to the performance of Texas Instruments' multicore DSPs."

"TI enjoys collaborating with companies like 3L and CommAgility, who are committed to extending the reach of TI's KeyStone platform to a variety of customers," said Dave Bell, applications manager, DSP, TI. "Our collaboration is helping simplify the software development environment, helping customers achieve maximum performance on the KeyStone architecture."

Availability: Immediate (24hr shipment)

About 3L LtdMaking multiprocessing simple has been the sole focus of 3L since it was formed in 1987. Pain-free movement of tasks from one processing element to another is the essence of 3L expertise. 3L works in close collaboration with tools provided by device manufacturers and 3rd party specialists in optimisation, efficiency and verification. We know we are doing our job right when during a demonstration the customer says...."It can't be that simple. Show me again."
