SANFORD (CBSMiami/AP) The man acquitted in the shooting death of a Florida teen has been arrested again. This time he is charged with aggravated assault, Florida authorities said.

The Seminole County Sheriffs Office says the 31-year-old Zimmerman was arrested for aggravated assault in Lake Mary about 10 p.m. Friday and is being held at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.

Zimmerman was released on a $5,000 bond Saturday afternoon. At a court appearance earlier Saturday, he was ordered to avoid contact with the woman, who was not identified.

Judge John Galluzzo gave few details of the incident, but said a wine bottle was involved and that the alleged assault happened at Zimmermans Lake Mary home. Prosecutors questioned whether substance abuse treatment was needed, but the judge said that didnt seem to be a factor.

After the brief hearing, Zimmermans attorney, Don West, told the Orlando Sentinel his client was arrested after allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend several days ago.

Zimmerman was also told by the judge to stay out of Volusia County, where the woman lives.

The judge ordered Zimmerman to pack up any personal belongings his girlfriend may have left at Zimmermans home and give them to his lawyer.

Zimmerman, who wore blue scrubs and handcuffs, appeared calm during the brief hearing. At one point, he laughed and joked with an officer as he signed paperwork.

Although the incident didnt involve a firearm, the judge ordered Zimmerman to surrender any weapons out of an abundance of caution.

George Zimmerman was arrested Friday night for alleged aggravated assault with a weapon in a domestic violence case.

Zimmerman, who in 2013 was acquitted for the 2012 shooting death of unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin, is being held without bond, according to the Seminole County Sheriffs website.

Zimmerman has had a number of domestic violence incidences since his acquittal for Martins death. In September of 2013, his then-wife, Shellie Zimmerman, called 911 and told police he was threatening her with a gun, but later opted not to press charges. In November of the same year, his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, requested Zimmerman not be charged with domestic violence after she told police he pointed a gun at her. Scheibe said investigators had misinterpreted her statements.

Zimmerman was due in court Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET.

George Zimmerman back in court after domestic violence incident

George Zimmerman, the man who was acquitted in 2013 of murdering an unarmed black Florida teenager, was arrested Friday night in a domestic violence case, according to news reports.

Police said the 31-year-old was arrested around 10 p.m. in Lake Mary, just outside Orlando, on a charge of domestic aggravated assault, according to the Associated Press.

On Saturday morning, Zimmerman appeared in court and was given a $5,000 bond and ordered to stay out of Volusia County, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Judge John Galluzzo told Zimmerman that he has until Tuesday to surrender firearms in his possession, according to the Sentinel.

Details of the incident that led to the arrest were not immediately available, but the Sentinel reported that it didnt involve a firearm and may have involved a bottle of wine, according to Zimmermans lawyer.

Fridays arrest is far from Zimmermans first run-in with the law since he was acquitted in 2013 of a second-degree murder charge for shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. According to the AP:

He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief after his then-girlfriend said he pointed a gun at her face during an argument, smashed her coffee table and pushed her out of the house they shared. Samantha Scheibe decided not to cooperate with detectives and prosecutors didnt pursue the case.

Zimmerman was accused by his estranged wife of smashing an iPad during an argument at the home they had shared. Shellie Zimmerman initially told a dispatcher her husband had a gun, though she later said he was unarmed. No charges were ever filed because of a lack of evidence. The dispute occurred days after Shellie Zimmerman filed divorce papers.

Zimmerman has also been pulled over three times for traffic violations since his acquittal.

In September, police said a man accused Zimmerman of threatening him during an altercation on the road, though he was never arrested or charged, according to CNN.

I will kill you, Zimmerman allegedly said, according to police. Do you know who I am?

Story highlights Zimmerman posts $5,000 bail; he was accused of throwing a bottle at a girlfriend "He hasn't been very lucky with the ladies," attorney says of Zimmerman He became a national figure after being charged, then acquitted in Trayvon Martin's death

The 31-year-old Florida resident was arrested Friday by police in Lake Mary at about 10 p.m. and booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, according to that facility's website. That facility, like its website, is run by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

It all came about after Zimmerman allegedly threw a wine bottle at a girlfriend, his lawyer Don West told reporters.

"Whatever happened took place several days ago," said West. "And, as far as I know, they have not been together for some time, certainly not since then."

Police first learned about it after coming "in contact with the (alleged) victim at a traffic stop" on Monday, Lake Mary police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett said.

When asked about the delay in making the arrest, Gillett said the arresting officer tried to reach Zimmerman on Monday and Tuesday, but couldn't, and was off-duty Wednesday and Thursday. It was the officer's decision not to pass off the case to another officer, Gillett said.

The incident is the latest legal run-in for Zimmerman since his acquittal in July 2012 on a murder charge in the death of Martin, a 17-year-old African-American. In fact, it's his second arrest for alleged domestic violence against a girlfriend -- though Lake Mary police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett said this alleged "victim is not the same (woman) as in 2013."

"It's clear he hasn't been very lucky with the ladies the last few months," West said of his client.

Judge bars contact, orders weapons surrendered

Zimmerman appeared Saturday morning before Judge John Galluzo, who decided to bar him from contacting the alleged victim or going into Volusia County. He was also told to surrender any weapons to a relative or third party, but not to stop drinking since the judge said "there wasn't any allegation of abuse of alcohol in the arrest affidavit."
