An Orlando-based theater production company will run three performances about Trayvon Martin during its 2014-15 season.
The Beth Marshall Presents company is calling the yearlong effort "The Trayvon Martin Project," and will work with Valencia College and Penguin Point Productions for some of the performances. Some of the money raised from the shows will be donated to the Trayvon Martin Foundation, officials said.
George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, in Sanford, Fla., in February 2012. The shooting and trial of Zimmerman drew national attention. Zimmerman was acquitted of murder in July.
The first part of the "The Trayvon Martin Project" runs Oct. 3 to Oct. 5 with six short plays and a poem "inspired by the tragic loss of Trayvon Martin," the company wrote on its website. Officials described the event further on the site saying, "The works carefully explore race relations and equality issues within our culture and specifically within the Central Florida community."

The second portion of "The Trayvon Martin Project" will run in February 2015 at Valenica College's east campus. The performance, titled "An Exploration," will also have a focus on Jordan Davis, the 17-year-old unarmed boy shot to death in a North Florida gas station parking lot over loud music. According to the company's website, this feature will "explore the waves and repercussionsfrom the Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis incidents."
The final performance is slated to run for 50 minutes and is titled "Hoodies." Trayvon Martin was wearing a hoodie when he was shot. Organizers said the play will either be presented at the 2015 Fringe Festival or at The Venue in June 2015.
