George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of murder for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, said in an interview released Wednesday that he's trying to be a good person and he thinks he can help others after what he has gone through.

Zimmerman said in a videotaped interview with his divorce attorneys that he was trying to figure out who he is and he was doing the interview to "show America who I truly am."

During the more than 20-minute interview, Zimmerman, dressed in a gray blazer and blue dress shirt, looks directly at the camera as he sits in an office chair. When asked by an off-camera attorney what his daily life is like, Zimmerman said he worries constantly about his safety.

"The only thing consistent is having to always look over my shoulder and be concerned about others around me," he said.

Zimmerman said he's trying to be a faithful family man but realizes that everything he does, good or bad, is heavily scrutinized.

Zimmerman was acquitted last summer of all charges for fatally shooting the 17-year-old Martin in a gated community where Zimmerman lived. Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has had brush-ups with the law following separate confrontations with his now-estranged wife, Shellie, and a former girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe. Neither Shellie Zimmerman nor Scheibe pursued charges against Zimmerman and the investigations ended without an arrest.

The trial over Martin's death last summer raised questions about race and gun control laws and inspired protests around the nation. Martin was black. In the video, Zimmerman described his father as white and his mother as Peruvian and said he grew up in a Hispanic household. He also said his great-grandfather was Afro-Peruvian.

One of Zimmerman's divorce attorneys, Howard Iken, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the divorce process involves "moving on and having a new life," and that the video's release helps Zimmerman by allowing him to control his message.

"The publicity surrounding him is unfair and misinformed, especially the allegations he is a racist or bigot," Iken said.

The former neighbourhood watchman had a table at the New Orlando Gun Show especially to sign autographs and pose for photographs with 'fans'.

However, during the six hour event, fewer than 20 people asked for him to sign the free promotional shots of him with his dog.

One couple, who gave their names to the New York Daily News as Melissa and Matt, told the publication that they were the only people waiting to meet him.

He seemed nervous and actually a little scared to be there. He also appeared emotional, like he was really thankful and touched that people would come out to see him, said Melissa.

It was pretty weird to meet him in person and wow, he has gained a lot of weight!

Zimmerman, who hit the headlines after taking part in a string of promotional interviews to mark Martins death, said that he was enjoying himself, despite the poor turn-out.

Everythings good. Were having fun, he was quoted as saying. Im just here to meet supporters.

(CNN) -- George Zimmerman's parents are suing Roseanne Barr for tweeting their home address, which they say forced them to go into hiding for years.

Robert and Gladys Zimmerman have filed a lawsuit against Barr, accusing the comedian and actress of posting "an open and obvious call for vigilante justice," which she intended "to cause a lynch mob to descend" on their Lake Mary, Florida, home.

"It was foreseeable that the tweets would cause Robert and Gladys Zimmerman to have to flee their house in the middle of the night and never to be able to return, have to face a descent of media and others who would seek to do harm to Robert and Gladys Zimmerman and to their home, and have to live in seclusion to protect their personal and emotional well being," the civil complaint said.

The Zimmermans accuse Barr of "intentional infliction of emotional distress" and "invasion of privacy" with the message to her 110,000 Twitter followers on March 29, 2012.

The lawsuit does not indicate exactly how much the couple is asking for in damages.

The tweet was published a month after their son killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a Florida subdivision, when national attention was focused on the incident and amid calls for Zimmerman's arrest. A Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the shooting of the unarmed teenager in a highly-publicized 2013 trial.

We have long known that George Zimmerman is a craven attention-seeker. From traffic stops to domestic violence calls, the killer of Trayvon Martin has been in the news with irritating regularity since he was acquitted of second-degree murder in July 2013. But what Zimmerman did over the weekend was, well, just beyond.

Zimmerman greeted people and autographed photos of him posing with his dog, reported Orlando television station WESH over the weekend. He appeared at a scaled-down version of the New Orlando Gun Show at the Arms Room store on East Colonial Drive. Scaled down because the original venue earlier in the week pulled the plug on the event after negative feedback over the Zimmerman grip-and-grin. That he is in demand and actually shows up at something like this is an outrage.

Last month, Zimmerman granted interviews to CNN, Univision and Fusion Univision to bemoan his life of bulletproof vests and fear that someone will harm him or his family. Throw in his lament about unemployment and homelessness and the pity-party orchestras violin section is in full crescendo.Remember, this is the same guy who was reportedly about to get in the boxing ring for a celebrity boxing match with the rapper DMX. The gun-show event wasnt the first time Zimmerman smiled and posed for a photo. Last August, he did that while he toured the Florida factory of the manufacturer of the gun he used to shoot and kill Trayvon with a single bullet to the chest at close range.

This leads to what should be an inevitable question: Who are these people glorifying the killer of an unarmed teenager in one of the most racially polarized incidents in recent history? Why are these autograph hounds going out of their way to shake Zimmermans hand? What they could possibly say to him in those few moments is enough to make me fear for humanitys soul. For if they say to Zimmerman what his most ardent supporters have said to meover the last two years it will offend your sense of decency. At least it should.

SANFORD, Fla., March 13 (UPI) -- George Zimmerman's parents sued comedian Roseanne Barr for revealing their address in an alleged call for vigilante justice, a celebrity website said Thursday.

Robert and Gladys Zimmerman, in a civil complaint, say they have had to live in hiding since Barr told her 110,000 Twitter followers the address of their Lake Mary, Fla., home.

The message was sent a month after George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin in February 2012. Zimmerman was acquitted last summer.

The suit in Seminole County District Court says Zimmerman's parents "have to live in seclusion to protect their personal and emotional well-being." It adds George Zimmerman, at the time of Barr's messages, did not live at the address.

Barr noted in a follow-up message she apologized for posting the address, the celebrity website celebritycafe.com said Thursday.
