Hillary Clinton on Monday spoke to more than a dozen Spanish-speaking parents in an East Harlem Head Start classroom, along with (not pictured) Mayor de Blasio, Chirlane McCray and New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

Hillary Clinton trumpeted the importance of early-childhood education in a visit to East Harlem on Tuesday and urged parents to sing and read to their kids.

Mayor de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, also attended the event and touted their commitment to universal prekindergarten in New York City.

Clinton, speaking in a colorful Head Start classroom, reminisced about her own days as a mother of a toddler.

The event marked the official launch of a partnership between Too Small to Fail, a charitable initiative funded by the Clinton Foundation, and Univision, the Spanish-language network.

WASHINGTON (AP) Hillary Rodham Clinton is helping initiate a public service campaign encouraging Hispanic families to read, sing and talk more to their young children so they're better prepared for school.

About a quarter of all babies and toddlers in the U.S. are Hispanic, but these kids are half as likely to have family members read to them and a third less likely to have songs sung to them than white, non-Latino children, according to a recent report by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.

The effort is part of the "Too Small to Fail" campaign started last year by the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation and Next Generation, a San Francisco-based nonprofit. A partner in the effort is Univision Communications Inc., a New York-based Spanish language media company that will run a series of public service announcements and news programs with segments focused on the topic.

Clinton was expected to participate in the campaign launch Tuesday at a bilingual Head Start program in East Harlem in New York. Clinton, a longtime supporter of early childhood programs, is a former secretary of state, first lady and senator of New York. She is considering another White House bid in 2016 and expects to make a decision later this year.

The focus of the campaign is simple: tackling what's known as the "word gap" by encouraging Hispanic families to focus on these activities for at least 15 minutes daily.

Research published by the late University of Kansas researchers Betty Hart and Todd Risley in the 1990s highlighted the phenomenon in which children in professional families hear an average of 30 million more words by the time they are 4 than children of parents accepting public assistance, and 15 million more words than children from working-class families. Children with less exposure are more likely to start school behind their peers and not catch up.

Hispanic children are also more likely than their white peers to face other barriers such as poverty, frequent moves and hunger.

About a third of Hispanic children live with parents without a high school degree. Many of these parents don't understand the power of reading, singing and playing with their young children, said Sandra Gutierrez, national program director of Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors, based in Los Angeles.

Others, particularly immigrants, are reluctant to do educational activities in Spanish because they want their children to learn English, but the enrichment in Spanish would be good for their children, said Delia Pompa, senior vice president for programs at National Council of La Raza. Both Gutierrez and Pompa serve on the "Too Small to Fail" advisory board.

Hillary Clinton To Encourage Reading In Hispanic Families

In the midst of former President Bill Clinton's scandal, Hillary appeared on television -- and...

Dylan Farrow, now 28 years old, is the adopted daughter of Oscar-winning director Woody Allen. In "An Open Letter From Dylan Farrow," published in The New York Times, Dylan accuses her father of inappropriately touching her "for as long as I could remember." She said: "When I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother's electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me."

Not good news for Mr. Allen or for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Here's why.

Dylan's brother, Ronan Farrow (formerly known as Satchel) is Allen's biological child. Ronan Farrow was appointed as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's special adviser for Global Youth Issues in 2011. He has long sided with his sister, considering his dad a monster who serially molested his sister and who, through his representatives, called his mother and sister liars.

Former President Bill Clinton's defenders did the very same to accusers Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Gennifer Flowers, et al, that Ronan believes Woody did to his mother and sister. These women most of whose claims were eventually admitted to by Bill Clinton were shamed and blamed. Was Hillary involved in these verbal attacks? To what degree was the famously hands-on wife of Bill involved or even worse, leading the "nuts or sluts" strategy used to malign his accusers as either crazy or of questionable morals?

Media justifies the attention on so-called "Bridgegate" because, after all, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is a likely GOP presidential candidate. Why does Hillary Clinton get a pass over the serious allegation that she bullied a woman who claims Bill raped her?

Juanita Broaddrick, an operator of nursing homes, accused former President Bill Clinton, then Arkansas' attorney general, of rape. Broaddrick, then a Clinton campaign volunteer, described what allegedly happened in a Little Rock hotel room. "Stupid me, I ordered coffee to the room," she said. "I thought we were going to talk about the campaign." Broaddrick told "Dateline NBC": "I first pushed him away. I just told him 'no.' ... He tries to kiss me again. He starts biting on my lip. ... And then he forced me down on the bed. I just was very frightened. I tried to get away from him. I told him 'no.' ... He wouldn't listen to me."

What does this have to do with Hillary?

Broaddrick claims that two weeks after the rape, at a political event, Hillary approached her. "She came over to me, took a hold of my hand and said, 'I've heard so much about you and I've been dying to meet you. ... I just want you to know how much that Bill and I appreciate what you do for him.' ...

"This woman, this little, soft-spoken pardon me for the phrase dowdy woman that would seem very unassertive, took ahold of my hand and squeezed it and said, 'Do you understand? Everything that you do.' I could have passed out at that moment and I got my hand from hers and I left. ... She was just holding onto my hand. Because I had started to turn away from her and she held onto my hand and she said, 'Do you understand? EVERYTHING that you do,' I mean, cold chills went up my spine. That's the first time I became afraid of that woman."

Hillary Clinton has a 'Woody Allen problem'

Hillary Clintons support for gay rights has earned her recognition from the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The former secretary of state, senator and first lady will receive the foundations inaugural Founders Award on October 15th, The Associated Press reports.

Clinton will be honored at the foundations benefit in October, along with celebrity chef Sandra Lee, businessman Ronald Perelman and Howard Rose, who is a founding member of the organization. Anderson Cooper will host the gala. More

Hillary Clinton went on a private shopping spree at Bergdorf Goodman early Tuesday morning, sparking further speculation that shes suiting up for a 2016 presidential run.

Hillary was spotted entering the posh department store by a side entrance at 9 a.m., with a small entourage of security and assistants.

Bergdorf Goodman, which opens to the public at 10 a.m., is famed for its personal shoppers, particularly Betty Halbreich, who was the breakout star of the 2013 documentary Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorfs.

Hillary, a low-key dresser and the oft purveyor of the humble pantsuit, has steadfastly refused to make fashion an issue. While secretary of state, in 2010, she dressed down a moderator in Kyrgyzstan who asked, Which designers do you prefer? Hillary responded, Would you ever ask a man that question?

But shes been known to rock an Oscar de la Renta gown she presented the CFDA Founders Award to the iconic designer last year or a Chanel jacket.

A rep for Bergdorf declined to comment. Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines didnt respond.
