Hillary Clinton Tweet About Texas and Abortion Resurfaces As New Ban Takes Effect – Newsweek

A tweet from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is gaining renewed attention after the U.S. Supreme Court voted to allow a restrictive new Texas abortion law to go ahead.

In a series of tweets on February 16, 2016, Clinton discussed the importance of filling a Supreme Court seat left vacant by the death of Associate Justice Antonin Scalia three days earlier.

Clinton, who was the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, warned at the time that a pending case from Texas could be decisive on the matter of women's access to abortion.

Some Twitter users shared the tweet and many posted new reactions to it on Wednesday.

Clinton tweeted: "And right now, a case from Texas could determine whether the right to abortion will be a reality for all or some."

She was apparently referring to Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the case on March 2, 2016 and issued a decision on June 27, 2016.

The court ruled in a 5-3 decision to strike down a Texas law that imposed strict regulations on doctors and facilities providing abortions.

The majority found that the 2013 law placed an undue burden on women accessing their right to an abortion. That right was enshrined in law by the landmark 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade.

Scalia, the most prominent conservative on the court at the time, passed away on February 13, 2016, and then President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland to succeed him. However, the Republican Senate majority refused to hold hearings on Garland's nomination and blocked his appointment to the court.

The open seat was later filled by President Donald Trump's nomination of Neil Gorsuch, who voted with the majority on Wednesday in refusing an emergency stay of the Texas law.

Some social media users suggested Clinton's 2016 tweets were prophetic, though she was referring to a different Texas abortion which had a different outcome once it came to the court.

The Supreme Court failed to respond to the request for an emergency stay of the law on Tuesday, allowing it to take effect at midnight on Wednesday. Clinton responded to the court's inaction on Twitter.

"Under the cover of darkness, by choosing to do nothing, the Supreme Court allowed an unconstitutional abortion ban in Texas to go into effect last night. Their decision doesn't change the fact that reproductive rights are human rights. We'll fight for them," she wrote.

A legal challenge to the Texas abortion ban is ongoing and no court has yet ruled on the law's constitutionality, as the majority pointed out in an unsigned order issued just before midnight on Thursday.

Did Hillary Clinton predict Texas abortion ban? Former FLOTUS’ 2016 tweet goes viral – MEAWW

An old tweet of Hillary Clinton has gone viral on the internet after the US Supreme Court upheld the Texas abortion ban. On late Wednesday night, September 1, three former president Donald Trump-appointed justices along with two other conservative justices decided to block a Texas law that prohibits abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. However, Chief Justice John Roberts and the court's three liberal judges disagreed with the decision.

The ruling stated, In reaching this conclusion, we stress that we do not purport to resolve definitively any jurisdictional or substantive claim in the applicants' lawsuit. In particular, this order is not based on any conclusion about the constitutionality of Texas's law, and in no way limits other procedurally proper challenges to the Texas law, including in Texas state courts.

But one tweet that garnered everyones attention is the former secretary of states "prediction" from way back in 2016. It left people wondering if the 73-year-old knew that this was going to happen beforehand. A user named Jake Lobin shared Hillarys old tweet with a caption, Tweet sent: February 15, 2016 Hillary Clinton was right... About EVERYTHING. The tweet by the former first lady had noted at the time, 5 and right now, a case from Texas could determine whether the right to abortion will be a reality for all or some.

A person reacting to Hillary's old tweet said, This is why elections matter. Hillary Clinton was always right about everything. Things could have been so different. Now you know the panic we all so feared with the passing of #RBG. The second one noted, Hillary has a wide breadth of knowledge but too many ignorant Americans voted for the three card monte dealer. People, even a lot of Democrats, couldnt deal with having a brilliant woman in charge. All of them are to blame, the third one added.

Linda Tripp Now: Where Is Monica Lewinsky’s Friend Today? – Heavy.com

Linda Tripp was a civil servant who infamously turned on her then-friend Monica Lewinsky, taping their conversations about Lewinskys relationship with President Bill Clinton.

The revelations led to Clintons impeachment and gained the young intern, then 22, a lifetime in the spotlight. The saga will be told anew in a 10-part FX miniseries called, Impeachment: American Crime Story.

Where is Linda Tripp today? What is she doing now? She is no longer alive. Tripp died at age 70 of pancreatic cancer in April 2020, according to AJC.

At the time of the Clinton scandal, Linda Tripp was a civil servant working for the Pentagon. After the scandal, she married, ran a German Christmas store, and spoke out now and then about the Clintons and the treatment she received after exposing the affair.

Heres what you need to know:

Lewinsky tweeted well wishes to Tripp upon hearing she was sick. No matter the past, upon hearing that linda tripp is very seriously ill, i hope for her recovery. i cant imagine how difficult this is for her family, she wrote.

BBC reported that her family had confirmed her cause of death as pancreatic cancer.

She left behind a mixed legacy; whistleblower to some, treacherous friend to another.

Linda Tripp, confidant of former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, leaves her Columbia, MD home to travel to the US District Courthouse 02 July in Washington, DC.

Linda Tripp kept a low profile in the years leading up to her death. In fact, when she spoke out on the saga in July 2018, it was, according to The Washington Post, her first public address in nearly two decades. She spoke at an event for National Whistleblower Day on Capitol Hill.

She expressed only having a single regret, according to The Post: Not having the guts to do it sooner.

It was always about right and wrong, never left and right, Tripp said in the talk, The Post reported. It was about exposing perjury and the obstruction of justice. It was never about politics. She added that she now knew what a real high-tech lynching feels like.

According to The Post, Tripp lamented that it was virtually impossible to get your good name back and said My duty, my oath, was to the office of presidency, not to the sitting incumbent, and I was true to that oath.

Linda Tripp talks to reporters outside of the Federal Courthouse 29 July in Washington, DC, following her eighth day of testimony before the grand jury investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair.

Although she didnt give many public speeches, Linda Tripp gave a few selective interviews in which she lashed out at Hillary Clinton before she died.

In 2015, with Hillary Clinton seeking the White House herself, Tripp, then 65, gave an interview to Daily Mail in which she trashed Hillary. In that interview, Tripp described Hillary as the ruler of the White House when Bill Clinton was president and called her ruthless.

In her mind she would be part of a coronation instead of an election, Tripp added, claiming of Hillarys hoped-for ascent to the presidency: This has been planned for so many years. So this is a runaway train. Nobody is going to stop it.

She added, I think the most compelling thing about Hillary is that she will stop at nothing to achieve her end and that she views the public as plebeians easily seduced into believing her point of view.

As for Hillary and Monica, Tripp contended, Hillary was not only aware of Monica Lewinsky she ensured that Monica was removed from the White House and in the end went from being a lack luster First Lady with unimpressive approval numbers to wronged wife. Literally within the blink of an eye she propelled herself to First Victim status. This turned the corner for Hillary.

She has spoken out positively about Barack Obama in the past, though. According to Time Magazine, she once said, I believe President-elect Obama possesses an instantly recognizable purity of soul that, coupled with his brilliance, and, of course, his eloquence, brought quite unimaginable and long-awaited magic to the country, transforming red and blue states, quite literally, into The Color Purple.'

Tripp married t man named Dieter Rausch, and they were trying to sell their $3 million farm when she gave a 2015 Daily Mail interview. According to Daily Mail, Tripp and her husband ran a store called The Christmas Sleigh, in Middleburg, and she was a grandmother of seven.

According to its website, The Christmas Sleigh sells German Christmas ornaments. The website labels the store Americas best 100% authentic German shop and says its been open for 17 years. The store also sells handmade Austrian clothing.

The Christmas Sleigh carries a wide variety of high quality and hand made European items. Many of our products are not as yet on our web site and we add to our inventory virtually every day. Our frequent buying trips to Germany, Austria and Italy during the year help ensure that we can usually locate whatever it is you are looking for as long as it is still being made! the website reads.

GettyLinda Tripp (R) waits to make a statement to reporters beside her daughter Allison (L) and son Ryan (C) in front of the Federal Courthouse 29 July in Washington, DC, after her eighth and final day of testimony before a federal grand jury.

In 2014, Boston.com reported that Tripp was in Middleburg, Virginia selling authentic German trinkets out of a Christmas shop she runs with her German husband but noted that some Yelp reviewers were leaving negative comments. The reviews on Yelp were mixed. I love this store! How could you not?! Everything is beautifully displayed. I wish more stores were as tasteful and magical, read one.

But another reviewer wrote, WAY overpriced for stuff available everywhere & online. I found much of it tacky, too.

An article in Inside Nova described Tripps husband Dieter Rausch as quietly softspoken and described him as typically dressed in traditional German attire of lederhosen and a felt cap. The 2015 article said that Rausch had lived in Virginia for 14 years at that point and married Tripp in 2003 after knowing her for years.

According to Time Magazine, Tripp did receive some money as a result of the scandal. In 2003, she settled with the Department of Defense for $595,000 in a civil suit in which Tripp charged the Pentagon had violated her privacy by releasing personal information to the media, the magazine reported. Biography.com reported that Tripp also received a retroactive promotion, retroactive pay at the highest salary for 1998, 1999, and 2000, and a pension.

Time magazine reports that Dieter Rausch was a childhood boyfriend who had been Tripps first kiss at age 14 and says she is a breast cancer survivor. According to Biography.com, Tripps mother, Inge, was German. She was previously married to a military man named Bruce Tripp, with whom she had children Ryan and Allison.

Girls on the Bus, From Greg Berlanti and Julie Plec, Moves From Netflix to The CW (Exclusive) – Hollywood Reporter

The Girls on the Bus is changing bus stops.

Two years after the adaptation of New York Times journalist Amy Chozicks novel Chasing Hillary landed at Netflix following a multiple-outlet bidding war, the drama inspired by a chapter of the novel has landed at The CW.

Currently back in the development stage, The Girls on the Bus chronicles four female journalists who follow every move of a parade of flawed presidential candidates, finding friendship, love and a scandal that could take down not just the presidency but our entire democracy along the way. Sources caution that the potential series is not about Hillary Clinton or the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and Chozick remain attached to pen the script, which is now being recalibrated for The CW audience. Greg Berlanti and his Berlanti Productions partner Sarah Schechter and head of television David Madden will all exec produce. The project hails from Warner Bros. TV, where Berlanti is under a massive $400 million overall TV deal. Plec, who moved her overall deal to Universal TV after a long tenure at WBTV, has a carve out for Girls on the Bus via her My So-Called Company banner.

Sources say Netflix quietly dropped Girls on the Bus last year after landing the project following a fierce bidding war. The drama, which had a production commitment and was beginning to cast at when the pandemic hit, was ultimately dropped as part of the streamers regime change from Cindy Holland (who bought it) to Bela Bajaria (who dropped it). Sources note that the political backdrop of the series was part of the reason Netflix ultimately bailed on the project. (Netflix did not return THRs request for comment.)

Published in April 2018,Chasing Hillarytells the story of the 2016 presidential election that saw former first lady and secretary of state Clintons attempt to become the first woman to serve as president of the United States end in defeat to Republican Donald Trump. Chozick chronicled Clintons pursuit of the presidency dating back to her failed 2008 campaign. Chozick reported from Clintons campaign bus and inside its Brooklyn headquarters, following the candidate through 48 states to tell the story of what really happened.

Girls on the Busbrings Berlanti back to the political forum after the USA Network limited seriesPolitical Animals, which featured Sigourney Weaver playing a Hillary Clinton-like character. Girls on the Bus also marks Plecs latest collaboration with Berlanti, with whom shes been friends since her sophomore year at Northwestern University. Plec, who officiated Berlantis wedding, also worked with him during her time as a development exec for Kevin Williamson onDawsons Creek.Together, they both executive produced The CWs short-livedThe Tomorrow People. In addition to Girls on the Bus, Plec remains an exec producer of The CWs Legacies and Roswell, and also has Peacocks Vampire Academy in the works via her UTV deal.

The Girls on the Buscomes to The CW as the White House continues to be a timely source for scripted originals. FX is about to launch Impeachment: American Crime Story, the Monica Lewinsky-themed season of the Ryan Murphy anthology; and Showtime is in production on anthology seriesFirst Ladies, with the first season set to focus on Michelle Obama, among others.

Where is Juanita Broaddrick? Former nurse was allegedly raped by Bill Clinton in 1978 – MEAWW

Former President Bill Clinton has faced a number of sexual assault and harassment allegations. But the most serious of all was of Juanita Broaddrick, who accused him of raping her during his 1978 campaign for Arkansas governor. For the very first time, Broaddrick went public about her allegations against Clinton in January 1999 and gave an interview to Dateline NBC. But it was not aired until February 24, 1999, after Clinton was acquitted by the Senate on charges related to his affair with Monica Lewinsky on February 12 of that year.

Broaddrick went on to give interviews to the Wall Street Journal editorial page, the Washington Post, and the New York Times at the time. In her interviews, the retired nurse said that she met the then-Arkansas attorney general in April 1978 in Van Buren, Arkansas. At the time, she was volunteering for Clinton's gubernatorial campaign. Later, she was invited to Clintons office in Little Rock a week after for a nursing home administrators' conference.

After she reached a hotel in Little Rock, Broaddrick claimed Clinton asked her to meet him in the hotel's lobby coffee shop. But later, the Democrat allegedly suggested to her that they should go in her room since there were many reporters outside. Broaddrick reportedly agreed to his suggestion. The 1999 interview of her with The Washington Post stated, As she tells the story, they spent only a few minutes chatting by the window Clinton pointed to an old jail he wanted to renovate if he became governor before he began kissing her. She resisted his advances, she said, but soon he pulled her back onto the bed and forcibly had sex with her. She said she did not scream because everything happened so quickly. Her upper lip was bruised and swollen after the encounter because, she said, he had grabbed onto it with his mouth.

The last thing he said to me was, You better get some ice for that. And he put on his sunglasses and walked out the door,' she recalled, as reported by The Post. Though Broaddrick had no witnesses to her rape, her numerous friends backed up the story. Norma Rogers, who was director of nursing at Broaddrick's nursing home at the time, said at the time that she entered Broaddricks room soon after the alleged rape and found her crying and in 'a state of shock.' Her upper lip was puffed out and blue, and appeared to have been hit.

After her initial interviews in 1999, Broaddrick later told the Drudge Report that weeks following the alleged assault, she met Hillary Clinton, who allegedly tried to thank her for keeping her mouth shut. [Hillary] came directly to me as soon as she hit the door. I had been there only a few minutes, I only wanted to make an appearance and leave. She caught me and took my hand and said 'I am so happy to meet you. I want you to know that we appreciate everything you do for Bill, Broaddrick claimed about their meeting at a political rally.

She added: I started to turn away and she held onto my hand and reiterated her phrase -- looking less friendly and repeated her statement 'Everything you do for Bill'. I said nothing. She wasn't letting me get away until she made her point. She talked low, the smile faded on the second thank you. I just released her hand from mine and left the gathering. But Clinton's lawyers refuted the accusations.

Broaddricks name has once again come into the limelight as the third part of Ryan Murphy's Impeachment: American Crime Story anthology is releasing on September 7, which revisits Clinton sex scandal and tells the story of Lewinsky, Linda Tripp, and Paula Jones. The true crime television series did not reportedly cover Broaddricks account.

In recent years, the 78-year-old has come forward as a Donald Trump defender. When Hillary Clinton ran for president opposite Trump, Broaddrick shared a tweet in January 2016 that read, I was 35 years old when Bill Clinton, Ark. Attorney General raped me and Hillary tried to silence me. I am now 73... it never goes away.

I was 35 years old when Bill Clinton, Ark. Attorney General raped me and Hillary tried to silence me. I am now 73....it never goes away.

Also in October of that year, when Trump broadcast a press conference-style event live on Facebook with Broaddrick, she said that Trump was accused of saying lewd things about women in leaked audio, but Bill Clinton raped me, and Hillary Clinton threatened me. I don't think there's any comparison. At the time, she also tweeted, Hillary calls Trump's remarks horrific while she lives with and protects a Rapist. Her actions are horrific.

Hillary calls Trump's remarks "horrific" while she lives with and protects a "Rapist". Her actions are horrific.

With a following of over 500k on Twitter, Broaddricks account is mostly about mocking and criticizing the Democratic party and its leaders. One of her recent tweets read, It took a Democrat House, Senate and Executive branch only 8 months to destroy the America we once knew. Another tweet of her mocking President Joe Biden added: Media: Whats it like trying to explain to Biden.... the duties of being a responsible and able President? Biden Handlers: Seriously? Its like talking to a potted plant.
