With hopes of winning issue, group trumpets Hillary Clinton's income inequality record

Washington (CNN) Correct the Record, the communications and rapid response arm of a pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC, is touting the former secretary of state's record on income inequality at the same time as national Democrats seize on what they see as a winning electoral issue.

In a research report titled "Hillary Clinton: A Lifetime Champion of Income Opportunity," the group is defending Clinton's record by highlighting efforts from her career as secretary of state, senator from New York and first lady. Some of those highlights include "raising the minimum wage," "advocating for out-of-work Americans" and "getting equal pay for equal work."

"Hillary Clinton has dedicated her life to ensuring that all hardworking Americans have the chance to succeed, no matter their circumstances," Adrienne Elrod, the communication director for Correct the Record told CNN. "Hillary's record reflects her belief that every American should have the right to achieve economic security and income opportunity."

The document also highlights some of Clinton's work from early in her career, like her first job out of law school with the Children's Defense Fund and her work on rural healthcare as the first lady of Arkansas in the 1990s.

The research document is part of an ongoing series where the group plans to tout "the highlights" of Clinton's record, said Elrod. Correct the Record plans to distribute their research to supporters and journalists as a reference for future questions about Clinton's accomplishments.

The defense comes as Republicans are wasting no time in defining Clinton's record. In the last month, the Republican National Committee has said that Clinton's record is "troubled" with "little to show for her four years at the State Department."

Clinton is widely considered the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016. She leads every poll of the Democratic field and most polls have her leading potential Republican White House hopefuls, as well. Clinton has not announced that she will seek the presidency, but as acknowledged that she is thinking about running.

Income inequality has been a hot topic for Democrats over the last few weeks. From the White House to Capitol Hill to the campaign trail, Democrats have used the issue including a push for equal pay as a large-scale coordinated attack against Republicans.

Democratic strategists see equal pay as a way to galvanize the base and raise money in a midterm election that will see less turnout and excitement than a presidential election year. By keeping the issue in the news, Democrats hope to benefit in the long-term by showcasing GOP presidential hopefuls who oppose equal pay protections.

Clinton, too, has recently waded into the income inequality and equal pay debate, though Correct the Record said their research documents are not coordinated to her comments on the issue.

Hillary Clintons top 2016 worry is Obamas economy

If Hillary Clinton runs for president, shell be getting a lot of help from Wall Street. But her friends and confidants there tell me she truly hasnt decided yet.

So why is she hesitating? The big reason, according to these sources, has to do with the dude who occupies the Oval Office now.

Barack Obamas rapidly disintegrating presidency and the chance it will get even worse is Clintons top worry these days as she weighs whether shell run, and can win, in 2016, these folks say.

Of course, most of Hillarys Wall Street buddies from Goldmans Lloyd Blankfein to Blackrocks Larry Fink think shell end up throwing her hat into the ring. Shes being urged to take the plunge, they say, by many confidants as well as by both her husband the former president and their daughter Chelsea.

Shes said to think that former Florida ex-Gov. Jeb Bush, with his moderate-to-conservative track record and broad appeal to Hispanics, would be a difficult foe in a general election (even with that last name), but that Republican infighting might well produce a much weaker candidate, someone who appeals to right-wing Tea Partiers and almost no one else.

Age is another cause for doubt: Clinton would be nearly 70 if she took office but thats still younger than Ronald Reagan when he took the oath, and 70 isnt as old as it was then, either. (The new 60? 50?) Plus, despite rumors about health problems, people who know her say they believe Hillary is healthy enough to withstand the grind of campaigning.

No, apparently the big risk she sees is the potential taint of her old boss, President Obama.

This goes beyond the continued unpopularity of ObamaCare, even though shes tied to that albatross not just by Democratic Party political realities by also by her push for a similarly unpopular health system during her husbands presidency.

It even goes beyond the failures of Obamas foreign policy though of course Hillary, as his secretary of state for his first four years, also gets tainted not just by the Benghazi tragedy but the countrys weak standing throughout the world.

No: Her biggest fear, Im told, is that the Obama economy gets even worse.

Hillary leans on Bill and Barack to sell presidency

Recently Hillary Clinton gave what appeared at first to be a rambling and unfocused answer when asked to name the proudest achievement of her four years as Secretary of State. The short version is, she doesn't have one. But Clinton's words make a lot more sense when seen not as a non-answer to a specific question, but as an effort to lay the foundation and establish a theme for a presidential campaign.

The occasion was her appearance on a panel discussion at the "Women in the World" meeting in Manhattan. It was pretty easy going; the moderator, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, asked softball after softball. (Sample: Noting Clinton's daughter Chelsea, Friedman asked: "What have you learned from her?")

Toward the end, Friedman turned to Clinton and said: "When you look at your time as Secretary of State, what are you most proud of, and what do you feel was unfinished, maybe love to have another crack at someday?"

Clinton and the audience laughed, because "another crack at someday" seemed an obvious back-door way of asking whether Clinton will run for president in 2016. But then she answered, and revealed something critically important about her intentions.

"Look, I really see my role as secretary, and in fact, leadership in general in a democracy, as a relay race," Clinton said. "I mean, you run the best race you can run, you hand off the baton. Some of what hasn't been finished may go on to be finished ..."

The answer seemed to concede that there is no single, momentous thing Clinton can point to as having achieved during her years as the nation's top diplomat. As she went on, Clinton instead linked herself to President Obama's achievements at least the Democratic version of them not in the field of foreign affairs, but at home.

"We had the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, we had two wars, we had continuing threats from all kinds of corners around the world," Clinton said. Obama told her his top priority had to be dealing with the economic crisis, so he asked her to "represent us around the world."

Clinton's job was to "make it clear to the rest of the world that we were going to get our house in order." But what did "in order" mean? Clinton described it this way: "We were going to stimulate and grow and get back to positive growth and work with our friends and partners."
