Mark Their Silence – From Rave To Metal Core

Having spent much of my youth dripping in sweat at various raves, UK and Ibiza scene, and ultimately having to cope with reasonabilities that come with age - mortgages, degrees, education, business, I thought I would try to relive my musical youth again - dip my little toe into hard core again. The Rave scene isn't what it used to be around here or maybe what I remember, but I heard about a small, unsigned, but apparently shit hot metal core band in my home town of Wantage, UK, called Mark Their Silence. I found their website http://www.marktheirsilence.com/

I decided to pay them a visit on one of their gigs they were playing here in North Wantage, old school hall - they are based in Reading, I just didn't know what to expect... I am older now, would I look out of place? Should a late 30's be doing to a teenager rock gig in this day and age - jail bait waiting there to bounce at a later date ? How extreme does Metal Core compare to the raves of the early 90's ?

Anyhow, lucky for me, not the youngest, loads of pissed up punters when I arrived a bit late in the pouring rain, no dealers other than a well stocked bar...so less chance of agro, and the toilets were needle/empty wrap free. Booze was cheap. Loads of alternative bands in line up, including the headliner for that evening Cue The Fiasco https://www.facebook.com/CueTheFiasco

Normally I prefer or preferred the thrill of a DJ mixing up their shit, but this old school metal gig was just the score.. before long I was moshing hard core again like a teenager after about 4 pints. At times bordering on a mosh fight, but a good laugh. My age / build came as an advantage.

Mark Their Silence played close to the end - Cue The Fiasco been the headliners for that evening, deep riffs professionally performed - and unlike the other previous acts engaged with the pissed up punters that we were by then.. off stage guitars (I can see why wifi guitars could be an advantage) in the mosh pit. Lighting system was a bit shit, but for an unsigned band playing in an old school, what would you expect ? Cue The Fiasco a local home town band also performed well as the headliners.

It was a good laugh all I can say.. for me I'm moving from rave to metal core.. I wish that band well, sign-em !! They got me back into the sweat of moshing again, with no downside other than a few aching muscles.

They should consider the nu-metal / rock clubs in Ibiza for gigging aswell.

CEO Fenwick out as Dow Jones reviews DJX product

In an unexpected shakeup, News Corp said Tuesday that it is replacing Lex Fenwick, CEO of its Dow Jones subsidiary. The media company controlled by Rupert Murdoch said it plans to review how Dow Jones serves institutional clients.

The company named William Lewis Dow Jones' interim CEO.

News Corp. CEO Robert Thomson said the review will include improvements to DJX, a product for institutions that includes a variety of services such as Factiva and the Dow Jones newswire.

Thomson said in a statement that "greater flexibility in its product offerings is likely in the short term." DJX, which has been in beta testing since its launch last year, has had a single price per user for its omnibus offering.

The product was meant to compete with rival Bloomberg's financial data and news services and was largely developed by Fenwick, who joined Dow Jones in February 2012 after 25 years at Bloomberg LP, where he held positions including that of CEO at Bloomberg Ventures.

The company had high hopes for DJX. Dow Jones' institutional clients account for about 30 percent of Dow Jones' revenue. The rest comes from consumer publications like The Wall Street Journal and Barron's magazine.

Thomson said in November that the institutional part of the business "hasn't performed to our expectations or to its potential for really almost two decades."

Yes, they actually went through with it.

The Heat and Nets debuted their nickname jerseys during Brooklyns 104-95 double overtime victory at the Barclays Center on Friday.

Although Dwyane Wade, Mario Chalmers, Greg Oden, Deron Williams and Brook Lopez all missed out on the fun due to various injuries, all 20 players that saw court time donned nicknames, rather than their last names, on the back of their jerseys.

All the easily recognizable nicknames for both teams were present: LeBron James wore King James, Ray Allen wore J. Shuttlesworth (a reference to his famous Jesus Shuttlesworth character in the movie He Got Game), Chris Andersen wore Birdman, Kevin Garnett wore Big Ticket, Paul Pierce wore Truth, and Jason Terry wore Jet.

Aftermonths of teasinganda few leaked images, both teams unveiled their full list of nickname jerseys this week (see below).

Check out the following gallery of nickname jersey images from before and during the game, including custom uniforms for ESPN broadcasters Mike Breen (Gray Mamba) and Jeff Van Gundy (Notorious JVG).
