One killed at rave party in southeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A killer is on the run after a shooting at party that police say got out of control. Hundreds of teenagers were reportedly at the party, all crammed into a vacant house in southeast Houston.

It happened at a home on Allison near Cullen. Police were on the scene investigating for several hours after the massive Spring Break foam party advertised on social media turned into a deadly shooting.

Willie Armstrong, 19, and a group of friends were among what Houston police say was anywhere from 300 to 600 or more teens and college students all crowded in the house.

Party-goers tell Eyewitness News it was a massive bubbles and foam party. But around midnight, after calls from several neighbors, police, including off-duty HPD officers working security, shut the party down.

"Then about 30 minutes later all hell broke loose -- gunfire," said neighbor Amos Miles.

Police say there were several people firing. Witnesses say bullets were coming from everywhere.

"Like 10 over here, three over here, six over there," said witness Fredrick Johnson.

That's when Armstrong, who was running from gunshots, looked up and saw one of the gunmen.

"He was just walking and then he just pulled out a gun and started shooting," he said.

Then he saw the gunman fire at a teen.

Smart911 Launches First Annual Smart Telecommunicator Awards To Recognize 9-1-1 Call-Takers

Nominations Now Being Accepted as National Telecommunicators Week Approaches

Framingham, MA (PRWEB) March 07, 2012

Individuals are encouraged to nominate 9-1-1 call-takers or dispatchers who they feel deserve to be recognized for their leadership, performance, compassion for callers, ability to inspire co-workers and overall contributions to their Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). Winners will be announced during National Telecommunicators Week, April 8-14, in order to highlight the critical public safety role these professionals play.

Every day across the nation 9-1-1 telecommunicators are working long hours, answering life impacting calls and mitigating stressful situations, to ensure that citizens get the help they need, when they need it, said Tom Axbey, CEO of Rave Mobile Safety. Effective emergency response requires strong public-private partnerships. As part of that, we want everyone to have the opportunity to honor the dedicated telecommunicators that have made such a positive impact on 9-1-1 callers lives and the communities they serve.

Nominations for the Smart Telecommunicator Awards are now being accepted at http://www.ravemobilesafety.com/smarttelecommunicator through March 21. On March 26, finalist nominations will be posted online, kicking off a public vote that will run through March 30. Smart911 will name a national winner at a ceremony during National Telecommunicators Week, and make a donation of $1000 to the charity of the winners choice. Four regional honorees will also receive awards, along with a $500 donation to the charities of their choosing.

Both Smart911 and iCERT continually work towards improving 9-1-1 services across the US. We know that without these talented and dedicated telecommunicators, our efforts would be for naught. This is our way of thanking them for all that they do, stated iCERT Executive Director, George Rice.

Smart911 is a national system that provides citizens with the ability to enter information that they want to make available to 9-1-1 telecommunicators through a secure website at http://www.Smart911.com. Information can include childrens photos, medical conditions, disabilities, home addresses of cellphone callers, or other rescue-related information. Smart911 delivers this information automatically with a 9-1-1 call to participating PSAPs. Smart911 enables emergency responders to be more effective because they have access to a rich source of critical health and logistics information before arriving at the scene of an emergency. Smart911 also supports the critical need to effectively capture and manage data for special needs citizens

Music. Movement. Meditation. The Art of Living Foundation Announces Yoga Rave

Argentinian Duo Bring a Wave of Entertainment without Drugs and Alcohol; First Time Seven-City U.S. Tour with Celebration that Energizes the Body, Mind and Spirit

Washington D.C. (PRWEB) March 05, 2012

As teenagers and adults look for ways to enjoy and have fun, Yoga Rave offers an alternative - an alcohol, drug and smoke free entertainment where hundreds of party goers and yogis can experience a unique blend of chants, beats, yoga, meditation and dancing. This four-hour event will take the attendees on a journey of relaxation from movement and meditation to an all out celebration. The hi-decibel performance will be led by Nicols Pucci and Rodrigo Bustos featuring their popular music from the So What Project!

Teenagers and young adults today are stressed out and looking for ways to let go. Often, they use drugs and alcohol to release the stress but eventually these substances leave them more disconnected and depleted of energy, says Elan Gepner, US Yoga Rave Director.

Pucci and Bustos have been performing Yoga Rave parties in cities worldwide including So Paulo, London and Berlin since 2001. The duo presents an integral way of conceiving and creating music based on vibrations and thousand-year-old mantras combined with electronic beats in addition to a variety of other musical styles. They have a unique style in engaging with their audience and attracting crowds in thousands. The event will offer soul stirring music, sights and sounds to delight and will use nourishing food to bring a true intoxication to uplift the body, mind and soul.

The proceeds from the Yoga Rave concerts will go towards bringing Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) to the local youth across these seven cities. Yoga Rave is working in partnership with the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) and its dynamic volunteer base. They are focused on improving the mental and emotional health of the students by teaching practical yoga and meditation techniques so that the youth can deal with stress in their daily life in a positive manner. In the 2010-2011 school year, YES! For Schools reached over 12,000 students in 36 schools nationwide.

The seven city Yoga Rave entertainment events are at:

3/29, Club Pacha, New York, NY, 7-11 p.m.

3/30, 2424 Studios, Philadelphia, PA, 8-12 p.m.

3/31, Plumbers Hall, Chicago, IL, 7.30-11.30 p.m.
