Live Oak I'm all for Relay for Life here in Suwannee County. I have participated for years .How is it you want more supporters when you don't even advertise the upcoming event or give names of the commitee members or phone numbers to contact? More publicity is definetly required to get the job done.

The job for a co. administrator should require a degree along with prior exp. in a similar position, & a favorable reference well removed from the local scene. Lacking that, an exec. with viable exp. in a succesful private sector operation. Approval should involve a non-partisan, volunteer reveiw panel of the citizens who are actually paying for this, clearly not "the pleasure" of the BOCC. THINK PEOPLE, we need to implement a charter in this county.

I just learned of the St. Johns District, the North Florida Aquifer Replenishment Initiative, http://northfloridawater.com/?utm_source=2012_February_22&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Water_News. That begs the question, "Where is the Suwannee River District's Aquifer Replenishment Initiative - and implementation schedule?"

I may be confused, coulda sworn a certain commisioner said he wasn't running again just a coupla mos. ago. Sadly, it seems untrue. Wonder why the weekly poll shows we don't put much stock in their decisions, ( like in absolutely not). With such great results & progress, let's put him back in office with 16% of the vote $130K of our money yet again as usual. Maybe he should do the right thing & step aside, ( like he said). Maybe term limits since they can't control their own ego & greed. Maybe we're as stupid as they think we are!

Driver dies after brief chase in McCandless

Investigators said a man was drunk when he left a McCandless bar Sunday night, hit several police cruisers and slammed into a tree.

Benjamin Bibler, 32, of the North Side, was pronounced dead at the scene in the parking lot of Rave Motion Pictures, formerly Showcase Cinemas North, at 9700 McKnight Road.

Staff at J. Clark's bar across the street called police about 7 p.m. because Mr. Bibler was intoxicated and they wanted him to leave. Mr. Bibler seemed compliant when officers arrived but suddenly bolted out the front door and jumped into his car.

He put the vehicle into reverse, striking a police supervisor's SUV before heading across McKnight Road toward the parking lot of the movie theater, said Sgt. Scott Scherer of the Allegheny County police homicide unit, which is investigating the crash.

Mr. Bibler hit another officer's car head-on before he lost control, hopped a curb and then struck the tree, the sergeant said.

SAN MATEO, Rizal--Three newcomers in the trail-running scene stamped their class last Sunday in the Pang Rave Run, the first leg of the Vaseline Men Xterra Off-road Triathlon Series.

Twenty nine-year-old Carlito Pantillaga, showing how well he has adjusted from running a footrace on a well-paved roads to negotiating a rocky and uneven terrain, won his second race in three weeks by topping the premier 22-kilometer men’s division.

Joyette Jopson, the daughter of a renowned political activist, the late Edgar Jopson, took the women’s honors, while her boyfriend, Canadian triathlete Matt O’Halloran also claimed a top podium finish in the 10-kilometer men’s action.

Pantillaga, an airport employee, was alone when he ran some 500-meters downhill to the finish line inside the Timberland Heights in one hour, 40 minutes and 56 seconds.

Nobody chased him after Pantillaga took a steady pace up the starting line, with Australian diplomat William Robinson ending up almost 30 minutes behind him in second spot in 2:10.35. Felix Abuel placed third in 2:12.15.

“Mula sa start, wala na akong kasabay. Ang ruta ay palitan lang ng pataas at pababa kaya maintain lang ako ng pace ko,” said Pantillaga, who took the local honors in the 42-kilometer course of the 2012 Condura Skyway Marathon last Feb. 4.

The 33-year-old Jopson, an executive of a chain of dental clinics, overtook ultramarathon specialist Olive Cortez in the last seven kilometers to dominate the women’s side in 2:28.55. Peter Atencio

1 Dead After Car Slams Into Tree In McCandless

McCANDLESS (KDKA) — One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a tree in the parking lot of a movie theater in the North Hills Sunday evening.

The accident happened at the Rave Motion Pictures theater on McKnight Road in McCandless.

KDKA’s Lynne Hayes-Freeland reports that sources say the person who was killed was at the nearby J. Clark’s restaurant before the crash.

According to sources, employees at the restaurant reported that they had called for a taxi for the person because they had allegedly been drinking; however, the person reportedly refused to take the cab and got into their own vehicle, taking off with no headlights.

That’s when the employees reportedly called 911.

Officials say the car crossed McKnight Road and reportedly struck two police cruisers before going through the parking lot of the theater, and then slamming into the tree.

“It was coming straight towards us and I didn’t know if he was going to stop or what he was doing,” said Leah Mueller, a witness. “He was going 70, 80 miles an hour. It was scary.”

“I just yelled lock the doors because I didn’t know if he was going to get out after it wrecked. I didn’t stick around to see what was going on,” said Brian Neurhour, another witness. “I just thought if he got out of the car, the first place he would run, if there’s open parking lot all around, was to go into the building.”

The person in the vehicle died at the scene, and has not yet been identified.

Allegheny County police are investigating.

Police remained on the scene into Sunday night as the investigation continued.

They were interviewing people inside the restaurant and in the parking lot of the theater.

Stay with KDKA for the latest details.
