From double glazing to world domination for Tinie Tempah

Tinie Tempah has come a long way from working in a call centre selling double glazing to being one of the biggest names in urban music.

The multi-award winning singer and songwriter burst onto the UK urban scene with his multi-platinum selling debut Disc-Overy. Hes now followed that with second album, Demonstration, which encompasses an eclectic array of collaborators including Diplo, Pharrell, Zane Lowe, Paloma Faith, Labrinth, Naughty Boy, Dizzee Rascal, 2 Chainz, Emeli Sand, Ellie Goulding and the Chemical Brothers.

Finally, with that out of the way hes bringing his delayed stage show to Liverpool .

I am so glad we took the time to get the live show right, says Tinie. It was horrible making the decision to postpone it, but now when I look at it I know it was the right thing to do and I can honestly say that I am bringing my best ever show to Liverpool.

I love Liverpool audiences. They sing louder than anywhere else. Its an amazing feeling to hear your songs sung back at you and in Liverpool I get that every time. Its a real party town one of the best places to play.

He says hell be playing a bit of everything.

The old, the new, everything, he chuckles. There are songs I always love playing Pass Out, Written in the Stars, Invincible, Trampoline but also the newer stuff too.

Tinie or Patrick Okogwu as he was born, has come a long way in a very short time. The 25-year-old cut his teeth at Wileys infamous rave, Eskimo Dance. Choosing his name after distractedly flicking through a thesaurus during a Year 8 Citizenship class, Tinies career started out small, rapping to his class-mates in the playground. He wanted to release a single and make a music video, but first he had to raise 800.

I was 15 so the only way I could do it was to get a job selling double glazing over the phone part time, says Tinie. It took me forever, but in the end I had my 800 in 5 notes, 10 notes, even coins. It was the most money Id ever had in my life, and I put it all into the video.

Joey Essex does his best Blue Steel pout to distract us from the fact that he is releasing an actual album

JOEY Essex literally never fails to deliver.

The former TOWIE star, whose career has gone from strength to strength since he first hit our screens, is releasing his very own album.

Our eyes are popping out, FYI [PR]

Eat your heart out, Zoolander [PR]

Named Essex Anthems, the CD is clearly set to fly off the shelves - and Joey's got a very clever marketing strategy up his (probably rolled) T-shirt sleeve.

Pouting up an absolute storm to provide us with somespot on Blue Steel impressions, he posed in his favourite leather jacket and then again in his Fusey top.

Joey Essex is releasing an album and we are not joking [PR]

That's right, people - Joey Essex has signed a major record label deal and you really are not having a dream.

Warner Music - who look after the incredible Bruno Mars, Lily Allen and Rudimental - will release the album at the same time as his brand-new TV show.

Blue Steel face, anyone? [Wenn]

Putting the ‘rave’ in travel. | Ibiza 2014

Radical escapes were the UKs first independent clubbing holiday specialist. Theyve been putting the rave in travel since 1999 and have taken around 10,000 people to Ibiza. We caught up with head honcho KIRK FIELD a man with a secret past

Firstly, why do you what you do? After a decade of working in the rave and London clubbing scene as a promoter, journalist and occasional pop star, I needed to show I had a proper job in order to get a mortgage and my wife said, Just do what youre best at showing people the places you love. So I created radical escapes and took DJs and groups to Mayrhofen in Austria and Ibiza, which Id been visiting since 1990 in my capacity as a journalist for dance music magazines.

Occasional Pop star? Tell us more From MCing at raves and warehouse parties in the early nineties, I was asked to tour with Hyper Go-Go and front Patric Prins La Luna (To the beat of the drum-bang!). My own releases enjoyed the dubious honour of topping the charts in both Croatia and Greece.

Did you make any money? No, I never saw any royalties! Croatia went to war around that time (not as a result of my Number Oneat least I think it wasnt) so they were probably too busy with that. As for Greece the last I heard they were using it to advertise double glazing on TV!

Youve stated just like Quality Street and Johnsons baby oil, Ibiza is best when its shared explain please? The island is gloriously gregarious by nature and a destination which is best suited to visiting with a big group of friends. Events like Ibiza JETset and Island of Trance are just that except instead of half a dozen mates, youll be in a group with hundreds of like-minded souls.

So you had no training in travel or tourism? Absolutely nonewhich is why Ive been so successful! The dreadful yoof brands of the major tour operators like Twentys and Club 18-30 were so patronizing and out of touch with what was going on in the clubs and with what people wanted from Ibiza that we were a breath of fresh air.

So much so youve spawned imitators. Yes, it was inevitable, I guess. But as they all find out, it aint easy to work on this island! And were confidant that our products are always stay one step ahead in both content and our ability to offer our DJs the chance to play in the very best booths anywhere on the planet. People trust us with their holidays as were established and cheesy as it sounds, we actually care about our guests.

Tell us about Ibiza JETset. This replaces Ibizan Heat which ran for a deacade in San Antonio. In 2014, we are definitely in the era of generation Bossa. While San An is great for Ibiza virgins or student groups, weve noticed that folk naturally gravitate towards Playa den Bossa as they mature and their tastes and incomes change. Bossas rise has been both dramatic and seductive, and were stoked to be the first specialist clubbing operator to offer 5 nights in Jet, 5 premier parties in Space, Ushuaia, Sankeys, DC10 and Creamits proving very popular and weve just added another week in June and been asked to host a couple of areas @ We Love by Safehouse Management, who are now looking after it.

What else are you involved with this summer? 2014 will be our biggest to date: were bringing hundreds of Aussies over after they run with the bulls in Pamplona and throw tomatoes at each other in la Tomantina, are once again delivering the Mixmag in Ibiza and UNION events and running some specialist events for lovers of trance (Island of Trance), hard house (Xstatic Ibiza) and pure, unadulterated rave (Ravers Ibiza).

Planning any more events at Gala night/the Zoo? Yes, after the success of the last Captured Festival, Ill be working with Driftwood and delivering some more open-air trance parties. Trance works really well there actually.

XFM’s instant Haienda rave in five songs

808 State - Pacific State

Martin Price was the owner of Manchester's premier dance record shop Eastern Bloc and he joined forces with customers Graham Massey and Gerald Simpson to form 808 State (named after the Roland drum machine used by all good house acts). This blissful slab of Manc-house hit the charts at the end of 1989, but here's the original version from the previous year's Quadrastate album, for that authentic Ha feeling.

Following his brief stint in 808 State, Gerald Simpson but went solo for this early acid house classic, released on the Liverpool label Rham! It was the biggest selling indie release in 1988.

Happy Mondays - Hallelujah (Club Mix)

The indie-dance crossover was made official in November of 1989 with the release of Happy Mondays' Madchester Rave On EP and The Stone Roses' Fool's Gold. One of the Mondays' tracks was remixed by Andy Weatherall and Paul Oakenfold - the loping beat and the sample of medieval plainsong made it one of the key tracks of the era.

Primal Scream - Come Together (Weatherall Mix)

Another band that were early adopters of the dance remix, Loaded was previously a track of theirs called I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Had. Given an overhaul by DJ and remixer Andy Weatherall, the results put the Scream into the charts and he ended up working on their next album Screamadelica. We love his take on the track Come Together, a suitably spaced-out epic.

The indie rock overlords had been toying with dance music since the early 1980s after doing some serious clubbing in New York's hip hop clubs. At the other end of the decade, they decided to record their fifth album in Ibiza. There were many distractions as you may imagine, but the result was one of their strongest LPs - Technique. The opening track was tailor-made for the Haienda and given a soulful remix by Steve "Silk" Hurley, one of the leading lights of the Chicago house scene.
