Q Club Scores 61

When city health inspectors swung by the Quinnipiack Club, they didnt stop for the power-lunch grilled chicken salad. Instead they popped in on the cockroaches.

The elite private club (picture above) on Church Street failed its latest health inspection with a score of 61 out of 100. Most food establishments inspected over the past two weeks passed.

City sanitarians inspect all of New Havens restaurants, groceries, and bars between one and four times a year. Establishments that score less than 80 have two weeks to make the recommended corrections. The health department can also close a restaurant, regardless of its score, if the sanitarians suspect an immediate danger to public health.

The Q Club has been active since 1871. It has elegant dcor, continental cuisineand unlabeled toxic products, according to its latest inspection.

Carla Curzoni, the clubs new general manager, explained that the more serious-sounding violations are due to the fact that the club is currently undergoing renovations.

Theres a lot of construction going on. Thats where the cockroaches were, she said. Weve actually moved our dinning room to the second floor, which means that none of the violations were close to the food.

She went on to say that the clubs age makes it harder to keep up to health standards while renovations are underway.

Its an old building, she said. When you tear walls open, things come out.

Curzoni added that the club has already scheduled an exterminator.

On the other side of the health inspection spectrum, the New Worthington Hooker School on 691 Whitney Avenue got a perfect 100 over 100 score.

Usher ‘feels new’ on latest disc

Ushering in a new album? Easy.

Ushering in a new Usher? Easier said than done.

But the latter is the challenge the R&B superstar felt he had to accept on his tellingly titled seventh record Looking 4 Myself.

"You have to evolve or evaporate," explains Usher (last name: Raymond) in an exclusive Canadian print interview.

"It's inevitable, in business or in life -- if you don't continue to grow, then you just become a story from the past."

Usher's past is nothing to be ashamed of.

At the ripe age of 33, the Atlanta native is an industry veteran who has sold more than 65 million albums and cut some 17 top 10 singles, including the Grammy-winning Yeah!, My Boo and There Goes My Baby.

And that's just one part of his extensive resume, which also includes acting credits, philanthropic work, entrepreneurial ventures -- and oh yeah, his mentorship of an obscure up-and-coming singer named Justin Bieber. (See sidebar.)

To Usher, though, the past is prologue. And Looking 4 Myself -- which expands his musical vocabulary by infusing old-school soul and R&B with cutting-edge electronica and dance music -- represents rebirth.

"I feel new," he says. "Like a renewed artist. This is almost like a first-time experience to me. And a lot of people are saying, 'Wow, I didn't know him like that. I didn't know he made music like that. I didn't know he felt like that. I didn't know he spoke like that.'
