Revealed: Shameless thug found guilty of killing ex-council leader with single deadly punch partied in Ibiza just …

DARREN MURPHY, 25, was excused from appearing in court so that he could enjoy holiday in Ibiza with pals while on bail for killing John Morrison in unprovoked attack.

A THUG who killed an ex-council leader with a single punch partied with his pals during a holiday in Ibiza just weeks before he stood in the dock.

Shameless Darren Murphy, 25, lived it up on the sunshine island while on bail for killing John Morrison in a vicious attack.

His legal team even managed to get him excused from a court appearance because of the trip.

Officials were forced to re-arrange a plea hearing in September so Murphy could jet off with his mates.

Bank worker Murphy, who was convicted of killing John last week, told the jury at the High Court in Glasgow he had thought about nothing else since John died.

But after his sunshine break, he posted photographs on Facebook showing him partying by the pool and in a nightclub.

He also posted a snap of himself drinking beer with Happy Mondays star Bez at Glasgow Green and another with his face painted like a tiger during birthday celebrations.

Murphy was found guilty of killing former East Dunbartonshire Council leader John, 51, of Milngavie, in the motiveless attack exactly a year ago.

He claimed hed acted in self-defence during the assault in Glasgow city centre.

Leslie Phillips Axed Honeymoon Over Cancer Fears

British actor Leslie Phillips has cancelled his honeymoon after doctors booked him in for surgery to remove a growth from his nose.

The Carry On star, 89, married social worker Zara Carr in London on Friday (20Dec13) but has now revealed their post-wedding vacation was called off so medics could investigate a large facial lump.

Phillips is preparing to undergo surgery to remove the growth, but is relieved after medics discovered it to be non-cancerous.

He tells Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper, "We won't be going straight away because I'll be in hospital. I have to get this thing removed. Thank God, it isn't cancer. It just looks rather awful at the moment but I am getting that sorted. We have been for all the appointments and the next part will be in a couple of weeks."

The couple will jet off for a sunshine break in Ibiza, Spain after the operation.

He adds, "I own a house in Ibiza where we will go. That will be the honeymoon really."

Ed Sheeran fulfills Hobbit dream

Earlier this year while partying at a mate's wedding in Ibiza, Spain, Ed Sheeran looked down at his phone and saw an email from New Zealand director Peter Jackson.

It was 4am and the 22-year-old Englishman struggled to focus.

"I was off my face drunk," Sheeran, during an interview at the Beverly Hilton Hotel recently, told AAP.

"There was a lot of champagne and champagne gets me drunk quite quickly.

"I looked at the email. It was like a dream. I didn't process.

"Then I put my phone away and continued partying."

It wasn't until a bleary-eyed Sheeran woke up late the next day he recalled the email.

"I read it again and said, 'Shit!'," Sheeran said.

"I told my manager and he said, 'Shit!'"

Jackson was looking for an artist to write and perform a song for when the credits roll at the end of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second chapter of the Kiwi director's three-part adaptation of JRR Tolkien's fantasy-adventure tale.

Peru drug smugglers first claimed they were coerced

7:27pm, Tue 17 Dec 2013 Peru drug pair each jailed for six years and eight months Last updated Tue 17 Dec 2013

Michaela McCollum and Melissa Reid who had been working in Ibiza this summer, had previously claimed they were coerced into carrying the drugs by Colombian drug lords who kidnapped them at gunpoint.

They said theywere forced to board a flight from Lima to Spain with 24lb of cocaine in food packets hidden inside their luggage when they were arrested.

So far they have been held at the notorious Virgen de Fatima prison in Lima.

Their guilty pleas at the end of September came on the same day that the UN declared that Peru has now overtaken Colombia as the world's number one coca leaf producer, the raw material of cocaine.

According to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, coca plantations in Peru covered 60,400 hectares last year.
