A man on holiday with his family has become the sixth Briton this year to be killed in hotel falls on Spains Balearic Islands.

Paul Clough, 41, died in hospital from his injuries last week after plunging from the balcony of his third-floor room in the resort of Ciutadella, on Menorcas western coast.

Police on the island are investigating Mr Cloughs death but a senior officer said: All the indications are that this was a tragic accident.

Tragedy: Mr Clough was on holiday with his family in Ciutadella, Menorca when he accidentally fell off a hotel balcony

It appears Mr Clough fell through a gap in the balcony and into a garden below, after which he was rushed to hospital with multiple fractures and chest injuries. After his condition worsened, he died last Sunday.

Four Britons have died this year in Magaluf, Majorca, while another died in St Antonio, Ibiza. In total, 12 people have been killed in hotel falls in the Balearic Islands this year.

Adam Atkinson, 20, Castleford, West Yorkshire, died after falling off the balcony at the HM Martinique hotel in Magaluf, Majorca in April.

Columbus’ handwriting sparks debate over Ibizan descent

London, September 29 (ANI): The great explorer Christopher Columbus was from Ibiza, politicians on the Spanish party isle have claimed.

The bizarre theory, which the politicians admit they cannot categorically prove, is based largely on the fact that the fabled 15th century explorer had the same handwriting as Ibizans of the time.

Despite acknowledging the fact that they cannot prove the theory, espoused by self-styled investigative journalist Nito Verdera, they have vowed to re-brand the island as the home of the late discoverer of America.

They also admit they truly cannot verify whether Columbus was born on the island, or even if he lived there for any period of time whatsoever.

However, councillors have voted unanimously to formally advertise the hypothesis that Columbus was the son of merchants who had a house in Dalt Vila, the medieval area of Ibiza Town.

It came with one condition - that it did not cost taxpayers' on the White Isle a single Euro.

The claim has been met with widespread scepticism, with many taking to Twitter to say it is simply a publicity stunt to attract tourists to Ibiza's cash-strapped holiday resorts.

But Verdera, who claims to have worked as a merchant sailor and pilot, insisted that the seafarer had a 'geocultural origin' from the island.

The self-styled journalist also alleged that 50 years of work had apparently disproved the widespread belief that Columbus was either Italian, Portuguese, or from Galicia in the north-west of Spain.

Born between August and October 1451, Columbus was the son of a weaver and small-time merchant.

And now, politicians have vowed to re-brand the island - better known for booze-cruise Brits, all-night clubbing and hard-core house music - as the home of America's discoverer.

Boracay beats Ibiza, South Beach in Top Party Beaches list

The Philippines very own Boracay island continues to be recognized as among the worlds best as it recently beat Ibiza in Spain and South Beach in Miami in a list of top party beaches.

The Huffington Post featured online travel advisor Cheapflights.coms list of Top 10 party beaches around the world, letting its readers rank the destinations on a scale of one to five stars, with five being the highest.

Boracay ranked third, getting an average of five stars. Ibiza and South Beach are in seventh and eighth place, respectively.

Topping the list is Psarou Beach in Mykonos island in Greece, which was described as a pretty well-kept secret.

Cheapflights.com said of Boracays White Beach: This beach at Boracay used to be so notorious for wild behavior that its visitors were sworn to secrecy to keep this gem a private pleasure. Word got out eventually (of course), but the party scene hasnt been dialed back a single bit.

When night falls, this incredible beach comes to life. There are amazing fire dance shows and fireworks, live bands and parties that last from dusk until dawn. Theres a great variety of clubs and bars along the beach, so no matter what kind of music youre interested in, youll find a great place to hang out where the dance floor is never empty.

Other beaches that made it to Cheapflights.coms list include Zrce Beach in Croatia, Palolem Beach in India, Haad Rin Beach in Thailand, Nissi Beach in Cyprus, Gordon Beach in Israel and Kuta Beach in Indonesia.

Early this year, Boracay was named the worlds best island getaway by Travel +Leisure, an international travel magazine. The list of top ten island destinations was based on a survey of the magazines readers.

Gay cruise turned away by Morocco docks in Spain

The cruise ship Nieuw Amsterdam, on its present voyage catering to a gay clientele, docked Sunday in the southern Spanish port of Malaga after Moroccan authorities prohibited it from making its scheduled port of call in Casablanca.

The vessel, carrying 1,564 passengers and 869 crew members, docked about 7:25 a.m. and was scheduled to depart from Malaga later in the day, Malaga Port Authority spokesmen told Efe.

The RSVP Vacations travel agency, which specializes in organizing tourist trips for gay and lesbian customers, said Saturday in a letter to its clients that its agent in the port of Casablanca had reported that "the authorities have cancelled the scheduled July 1 visit despite having previously confirmed it."

The agency said that they considered this to be "disappointing news" and added that the decision was made after the "visit of a gay cruise ship" turned into "a public and potentially controversial matter."

Despite the cruise ship's claims, Morocco's Tourism Minister Lahcen Haddad denied that the ship was somehow prevented from docking.

"We don't ban cruise ships here and we never ask our visitors about their sexual preferences," he told Reuters.

The minister also reiterated that the cruise line can dock in Morocco for future trips.

In Morocco the same-sex relationships are unlawful and punishable to up to three years in jail. Their penal code also bans sex outside marriage, and buying alcohol.

The ship, which belongs to the U.S. company Holland America Line, had scheduled a program for its stay in Casablanca that included a visit to the Hassan II Mosque and to several souks - or traditional marketplaces - in the city.

After the stop in Casablanca, which was supposed to last for about 12 hours, the cruise ship was due to sail to Cadiz, also in southern Spain, and then to continue on to Ibiza in the Balearic Islands, then to the eastern Spanish city of Valencia and finally to end its journey in Barcelona.
