Over 400 Illegal Migrants Brought into the U.S. by ISIS-Linked Smuggling Ring | FAIRUS.org – Federation for American Immigration Reform

FAIR Take | July2024

Last week, reports surfaced that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now aware of, and alarmed about. An ISIS-affiliated smuggling ring has brought over 400 illegal aliens into the U.S., mainly from Central Asia.Border officials apprehended many of the Central Asian migrants, but then, pursuant to current policies, released them because they did not appear on the governments terrorism watch list. DHS is now rushing to find and take custody of these illegal aliens. The whereabouts of over 50 aliens remain completely unknown while approximately 150 have beenarrested.

This debacle comes at a time when the danger of ISIS-K, an offshoot of ISIS based in Central Asia, is higher than ever. In March, ISIS-K claimed responsibility for theCrocus City Hall attack that killed over 130 people in Moscow in March. Just a few weeks ago, U.S. officials arrested eight Tajik nationalsafter they were found to be extremists linked to ISIS-K. The Tajiks were brought by the same ISIS-K affiliated smuggling ring responsible for helping the hundreds of other Central Asian migrants enter the U.S., and like the others, the Tajiks were vetted by border officials and released into theU.S.

The national security risk resulting from our open borders is becoming more apparent every day. The Biden Administration has deliberately adopted the reckless policy of hunting down high-risk migrants after the fact instead of keeping them out in the first place. Meanwhile, state sponsors of terrorism such as Iran have explicitly threatened the U.S., andadversaries such as China and Russia are also exploiting open borders. In addition to the arrest of the 8 Tajiks, there have been other security incidents, such asillegal aliens being stopped from attempting to enter a military base in Virginia, or a Chechen national whowas shot while behaving suspiciously near the home of a U.S. special forces commander. At our borders this year, over 315 aliens on the FBIs terror watch list have already been apprehended. These all underline the consequences of open borders in general, especially the risk to nationalsecurity.

Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, however, did not show concern about the emerging threat from Central Asian migrants illegally crossing into the U.S.At a press conference near the southern border last week, he confidentlystated, We screen and vet individuals at the time of encounter. If we learn of derogatory information, we take enforcement action. If the individual isnt already on a watch list, DHS simply chooses not to engage in enforcement action and leaves the illegal alien to their own devices in theU.S.

The 400 individuals smuggled in by ISIS affiliates is no doubt alarming, but only a drop in the bucket. Under President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas, border policies have led to a virtual free-for-all, where illegal aliens from far-flung places can cross our borders illegally, beushered in, granted a variety of benefits, and then essentially disappear from scrutiny. From Venezuelan gang members to emissaries of theHaitian crisis, open borders invite a world of hurt on American citizens. In order to protect our country, security has to be the first consideration rather than an inconvenientafterthought.

Illegal Alien MS-13 Member Wanted For Murder Arrested In South Carolina – The Daily Wire

An illegal alien and MS-13 member who is wanted for murder was found and arrested in South Carolina this week following a traffic stop.

Elmer Neftali Martinez-Escobar, a 31-year-old El Salvadoran national who illegally migrated to the United States, was arrested by the Berkeley County Sheriffs Office in Berkeley County, South Carolina.

A deputy with the sheriffs office ran Martinez-Escobars name through the National Crime Information Center, leading him to discover that the suspect was wanted in El Salvador for homicide and was a member of MS-13, a criminal gang.

Martinez-Escobar was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana before being taken to the Hill-Finkea Detention Center. Martinez-Escobar was then placed into the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This traffic stop is a great example of our deputies using their training to identify criminal offenders, Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis explained to local media. We never know what a traffic stop will bring, but I trust that our deputies will continue to work hard to keep Berkeley County safe.

The arrest follows a series of arrests of criminal illegal aliens, some of whom are alleged to have committed violent crimes.

Concerns about illegal immigrant crime accelerated earlier this year after the tragic death of Laken Riley, a Georgia nursing student who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant named Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national.

Jose Chan, a 24-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was residing in Florida after previously being deported. Chan was recently charged with sexual battery after allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Illegal immigrants were also allegedly behind the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray in Houston, Texas. Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, were both charged with her murder. They illegally entered the United States during the Biden administration.

Police in Texas also recently arrested an illegal alien who allegedly killed two people in a Chick-fil-A restaurant just last week. The suspect is Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta, a 37-year-old native of El Salvador.

Two other illegal immigrant murder suspects were recently apprehended in Texas by the Splendora Police Department, which worked in conjunction with federal authorities. The two illegal immigrants both lived in Colony Ridge, a massive land development north of Houston that has become infamous for tailoring its financial and marketing practices to attract illegal immigrants.

The wave of alleged criminal activity by illegal immigrants comes as the Biden administration has presided over an unprecedented crisis on both Americas southern border with Mexico and northern border with Canada.

Over 10 million people have crossed the border under President Joe Biden, with an estimated 1.7 million illegal immigrant gotaways recorded since he was inaugurated in 2021. There were 415,000 total reported gotaways for 2018, 2019, and 2020 under the Trump administration.

Pillen weighs in on illegal immigration in Nebraska | News – norfolkneradio.com

Callers to Gov. Jim Pillens monthly radio call-in show ask questions about a variety of topics including illegal immigration.

A caller during the June 24show asked Pillen if there had been any illegal immigrants dropped off in Nebraska and if so, what was he doing about it?

Pillen said his office is working with the Omaha office of the FBI.

"We're trying to find out any activity that's taking place so that we can be part of the solution," Pillen said. "So, you can be rest assured we haven't put our head in the sand and say, 'All the things that are taking place, nobody's coming to Nebraska.'

"That's obviously one of the reasons why we've sent troops down and some of our State Patrol to help with drone activity to learn more and give support to Texas."

Pillen said the operations are clandestine and difficult to track but that his office is working on it diligently.

The governor's monthly call-in show airs on News Talk WJAG. The next one is set for Monday, July 8.

U.S. successfully deports illegal immigrants to China – Washington Times

The Department of Homeland Security announced Tuesday that it sent a charter flight of deportees back to China for the first time in six years.

The department was cagey about details, saying only that it was a large charter flight over the weekend. The department didnt say exactly how many people were on it, where it flew from and to, and whether future flights are in the works, nor did officials say how they selected the deportees.

But Chinese authorities told The Washington Times the deportees included planners and organizers of smuggling activities.

Homeland Security characterized the flight as part of its recent get-tough efforts at the border.

We will continue to enforce our immigration laws and remove individuals without a legal basis to remain in the United States, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement announcing the move. People should not believe the lies of smugglers.

The flight comes as the U.S. is facing a massive increase in Chinese immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally, including an influx of young men of military age. That has sparked shots from congressional Republicans saying Chinese government operatives could be sneaking in with the masses.

China has long been a challenge for American deportation officials, and it appears on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcements list of recalcitrant nations that limit cooperation to small numbers of deportees.

That makes this weekends charter flight historic and underscores just how much more work remains, with hundreds of thousands of Chinese migrants who are in the U.S. illegally.

That includes criminals, said Jon Feere, a former chief of staff at ICE.

Weve had serious problems with China not taking back their people for years. We have tens of thousands of fully removable criminal aliens that could be deported to China immediately if the country was cooperative, said Mr. Feere, who now works at the Center for Immigration Studies.

The numbers are only growing.

This fiscal year, nearly 56,000 unauthorized Chinese migrants have entered the U.S., according to Customs and Border Protection. That already tops last years record of 52,700.

By comparison, ICE said it managed to deport just 288 unauthorized Chinese migrants last year.

That works out to a deportation rate of just 1 per every 183 new arrivals.

Chinese embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu acknowledged the deportation flight, saying it repatriated the planners and organizers of smuggling activities and illegal immigrants to their original places of residence, and pursued their legal responsibility in accordance with the law.

The Chinese government unswervingly adheres to the policy of opening up, promotes normal cross-border travels in accordance with the law, safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of people entering and exiting the country, resolutely opposes smuggling, cracks down on illegal and criminal activities organized by smuggling people in accordance with the law, and actively participates in global governance of illegal immigration, he said.

The National Immigration Administration will continue to carry out pragmatic law enforcement cooperation with relevant national authorities on the basis of equality and mutual respect, jointly maintain orderly flow of people between countries, and enhance international personnel exchanges.

Deportation politics can be thorny between the two nations.

In 2020, the State Department slapped visa sanctions on some Chinese officials and their families as retaliation for Beijings lack of cooperation with Homeland Security.

China, for its part, announced in 2022 that it was stopping all cooperation on deportations after then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan.

Jonathan Fahey, who ran ICE at the end of the Trump administration, said it will take more than one flight for the Biden administration to prove itself.

Whatever theyre doing is just really for show now because they want to look like theyre doing something before another election, said Mr. Fahey, now a partner at the District of Columbia law firm Holtzman Vogel. Everything with this administration has been purely politically driven cynicism.

He said the challenge of going after the tens of thousands of Chinese already in the U.S. is massive.

I cant even imagine how many flights they would need and how many hoops they would have to jump through for each individual, he said.

While the Biden administration tied the deportations to what it calls a tougher approach at the border, which began last month, the flight had been in the works for months.

Acting ICE Director Patrick Lechleitner told a House subcommittee in the spring that it was moving in the right direction with China.

Weve had some recent cautiously optimistic progress with the Chinese, Mr. Lechleitner said.

ICE used to post its list of countries facing visa sanctions on its website but deleted that information during the Biden administration.

The agency also used to reveal its list of recalcitrant countries but hasnt done so for years.

The most recent public list is from a Congressional Research Service report in July 2020. At the time, 13 were listed as recalcitrant nations and 17 were deemed at risk of noncompliance.

Some others on that 2020 list were Cuba, India, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Russia.

Iraq had agreed to start cooperating in 2017 after it was listed as a target in President Trumps first travel ban. But after some initial promises of cooperation, Iraqi leaders backslid.
