A 24-year-old illegal alien named Lorenzo Alonso Romero allegedly drove over three women in his Oldsmobile on May 27.

The Laredo Morning-Times reports that Romero, who is currently being held in Webb County jail, claims to have driven over the women in an act of retaliation against the first victim as revenge for a police report she filed against him two years ago.

The victim was taken to Laredo Medical Center for her injuries.

Two hours after he allegedly ran down the first victim, Romero allegedly drove over a second woman, who was jogging near a school twice. She was also taken to the same hospital. Speaking to the victims, police learned that the suspect vehicle matched in both cases.

A third call was made to 911 on the same day, with a report that the same vehicle had struck another woman. She was also treated for injuries at the LMC. Speaking to police, the victim described the same vehicle. The victim says that she noticed the vehicle stalking her before it hit her.

Lorenzo indicated to police that he was upset over the fact that he was upset over a report filed against him two years ago by a neighbor. He claims the allegations were false.

When asked why two years later he was still upset, he stated he was just upset with women in general and was taking out his frustration on random women he would encounter, states the criminal complaint.

The complaint states that Lorenzo took full responsibility for intentionally and knowingly struck all three women with his vehicle, a black 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora, which he borrowed from the car lot where he is employed at.

This isnt Romeros first brush with the law. In 2015, he allegedly attempted to stab a man during an altercation. The Laredo-Morning Times states that he was also charged with assaulting women on two separate occasions including an attempted stabbing. In the second case, he allegedly grabbed a woman by the neck after she told him to stop drinking.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement states that Romero was deported twice to his native country of Mexico. Hes currently being held in jail on an immigration detainer.

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

President Donald Trumps immigration policies - even those not yet fully in effect - are already a huge success. How do we know? Well, for one thing, The New York Times is crediting Mr. Trumps policies with having had a swift and significant effect on curbing illegal immigration. And, although we dont often have cause to say this, in this instance, The NYTimes is absolutely correct.

In a full-length piece in Mondays print edition, reporter Kirk Semple makes the persuasive case that President Trumps get-tough approach to immigration policy has played a significant role in the decrease of illegal immigration into the United States. From the article: From February through May [of this year], the number of undocumented immigrants stopped or caught along the southwest border of the United States fell 60 percent from the same period last year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection - evidence that far fewer migrants are heading north, officials on both sides of the border say.

Mr. Semple argues that would-be illegal immigrants are no longer making the trek to the United States because the risk that they will be deported is too great. In other words, the chances that the United States will actually enforce its immigration laws are a far greater probability in the Trump era than in the previous administrations era of immigration lawlessness.

The NYTimes piece displays two of the papers chief defining characteristics - East Coast elitism that is willfully out of touch with Real America, coupled with a patronizing insistence that our nations immigration laws are not only un-enforceable, but they are also borderline inhuman. It is precisely this worldview The NYTimes possesses that is so utterly at odds with the worldview of the vast majority Americans. And it is this exact reason that The NYTimes elites were so caught off guard by Mr. Trumps surprising win.

President Trump was elected last November, in no small part, because of his willingness to be the candidate most aggressive about enforcing our immigration laws. His simple stance on immigration - which at times was almost simplistic - was that our immigration laws must be enforced. He never shied away from talking about deportations or even building a wall, and he was elected - not because Americans were willing to overlook his immigration rhetoric, but because his supporters actually believed he would do exactly what he said on immigration.

Mr. Trumps policies were based on a few fundamental premises: that a society that respects the rule of law must actually enforce its laws, and that there is something inherently unsafe about not knowing which people are here, for how long, and for what purpose. Beyond the rule of law and national security implications, candidate Trump started a national dialogue about the latent unfairness - and even un-Americanness - of immigration policies (and the policy of not enforcing our immigration laws) that prioritize non-U.S. citizens over U.S. citizens. It was a conversation many Americans found refreshing.

Mr. Semples piece profiles various people who were considering coming to the United States illegally, but who thought better of it, given the change in policy. One person, preparing to come to the United States illegally, was warned by a friend in New York: The United States [is] no longer a place for undocumented migrants. Although it violates every elitist instinct, the fact that the United States is no longer a place for routine and flippant disregard for our laws, is actually a welcome change.

Unable to escape The NYTimes dogma on illegal immigration, Semple laments that [a]rrests of immigrants living illegally in the United States have soared, with the biggest increase coming among those migrants with no criminal records. Because, from The NYTimes perspective, it is possible to flagrantly disregard and violate our nations immigration laws, and also be innocent of any criminal wrongdoing.

The NYTimes article almost comically betrays the elitist bias in favor of illegal immigration. In one particularly revealing passage, Mr. Semple bemoans the devastating impact of Mr. Trumps policies on - incredibly! - migrant smugglers in Honduras, who are presented as savvy small-business owners. Migrant smugglers in Honduras say their business has dried up since Mr. Trump took office. And one such migrant smuggler says he has only had one client since President Trump was sworn into office. The New York Times has thus unwittingly published high praise for President Trumps track record of putting Central American criminal enterprises and networks out of business.

Liberals and Establishment Republicans (read: Washingtons elites) have long argued that our immigration laws are too difficult and too expensive to enforce, and that we cannot possibly or practicably deport illegal immigrants, and, as a consequence, that illegal immigration is just something we have to accept.

In six short months of President Trumps presidency, he has done more than stem the tide of illegal immigrants into the country; he has also single-handedly demonstrated the falsehoods that make up elitist thinking about immigration.

U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.

A new government report estimates that 1.4 million illegal immigrants are using the stolen Social Security numbers of Americans, a problem that is getting worse and being exacerbated by the inability of key federal agencies to work together.

Its a problem that U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., says demands congressional attention to protect the interests of American citizens and those in the U.S. legally.

According to the report from Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Robert George, only half of those 1.4 million Americans were even notified that their Social Security information was compromised.

He also concluded that tracking the fraud is more difficult than it needs to be because the IRS is forbidden from working with the Department of Homeland Security to identifythose responsible.

Rohrabacher finds that unacceptable but not surprising. He says the problem is getting worse because more and more people are coming to the U.S. illegally with the expectation of receiving federal benefits.

You have got a large number now, millions of people who are coming to this country who thought they were going to get government benefits, just like Americans, said Rohrabacher.

Today, weve evolved into a situation where if people [who]are here illegally can end up compromising the Social Security system or any of our systems designed to help Americans and legal immigrants, itll just destroy the whole system. Its in the process. We are in the process of collapsing now, said Rohrabacher.

The congressman saidthe problem also persists because of leaders who encourage it.

This is the same mentality as people who are in elected office who are telling us they are going to provide sanctuary in cities and states around the United States for people who are here illegally, even when theyre criminals. I mean how absurd is that, said Rohrabacher.

He said the bureaucratic wall that prevents IRS-DHS collaboration is from the same mindset.

This same gang has managed to sneak this type of restriction into law or into practice here at the federal level. We need to make sure its dealt with as quickly as we can. Now that we have a president and two houses of Congress, we need to prove we can act, said Rohrabacher.

The congressman said there are definitely good, honorable people working inside the federal government, but he warns the number of political operatives who are embedding themselves into the bureaucracy is a problem.

There are a lot of other people who have been making their way through the bureaucracy that have been helped along by liberal-left political connections, sort of wormed their way into the system. I know a lot of people in the last eight years have made sure theyre in positions throughout our government, said Rohrabacher.

While Rohrabacher isnt immediately sure of what exact legislation is needed to allow greater interagency cooperation and to crack down on Social Security fraud, he said the process is clear.

Wed have to name those legal impediments to say specifically that the cooperation thats necessary to track down this type of fraud committed against the American people by illegal immigrants and that all areas of government should be legally able to work together, said Rohrabacher.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed multiple bills addressing illegal immigration, one to ratchet up the punishment for repeat illegal immigrants and the other to threaten the withholding of federal dollars to cities and other jurisdictions that impede the work of federal immigration officials.

Rohrabacher said addressing Social Security fraud and bureaucratic hurdles is another test the public expects Republicans to pass.

WASHINGTON The Republican-led House June 29 pressed ahead with legislation to crack down on illegal immigration, a key priority for President Donald Trump.

One bill would strip federal dollars from self-proclaimed sanctuary cities that shield residents from federal immigration authorities, while a separate bill would stiffen punishments for people who re-enter the U.S. illegally.

Trump often railed against illegal immigration during his presidential campaign, and his support for tougher immigration policies is crucial to his voting base. Trump met at the White House June 28 with more than a dozen people whose family members were killed by people in the country illegally, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions is set to meet with the families as well.

One of the bills, known as Kates Law, would impose harsher prison sentences on deportees who re-enter the United States. The bill is named after 32-year old Kathryn Steinle, who was shot and killed in California in 2015 by a man who was in the country illegally.

A second bill would bar states and localities that refuse to cooperate with immigration authorities from receiving certain Justice Department and Homeland Security grants, including some related to law enforcement and terrorism.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said he appreciates Congress effort to address the dangers of sanctuary cities and illegal immigrant offenders.

At a news conference at the Capitol with House Speaker Paul Ryan, Kelly said his agency will enforce the laws that are passed by Congress, adding: I am offended when members of this institution put pressure and often threaten me and my officers to ignore the laws they make.

Kelly did not elaborate on what threats or pressure he was referring to.

The Justice Departments inspector general has identified California and major cities such as Chicago, New York and Philadelphia as locales with barriers to information-sharing among local police and immigration officials. The Trump administration warned nine jurisdictions in late April that they could lose coveted law enforcement grant money unless they document cooperation.

The Asian Americans Advancing Justice, an affiliation of five civil rights organizations, in a June 28 statement in response to the two bills, said it strongly opposes both H.R. 3003 and H.R. 3004 and the passage of any immigration enforcement legislation that would increase indiscriminate enforcement, further the criminalization of immigrants and instill more fear in already terrified communities.

It noted that roughly 40 percent of all immigrants come to the U.S. from Asia, and 1.6 million of those immigrants are undocumented.

Anti-immigrant policies create a climate of fear for all immigrants, regardless of status, the organization said.

We are horrified and dismayed that House leadership has chosen to line up behind the administration in its scapegoating of immigrants, it added. Both of these bills further the administrations goals of criminalizing all immigrants.

The bills are scheduled to be voted on by the end of the month.

House Pushes Bills to Crack Down on Illegal Immigration - India West

In a report by the San Diego Union-Tribune, new data shows that illegal immigrants in southern California are being arrested at roughly the same rate before former President Obamas era of relaxed border policies.

Between February and May, nearly 550 illegal immigrants were arrested in San Diego alone by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Compare that to the number of illegal immigrants arrested in that same time period last year, where only 242 foreign nationals were arrested. In 2015, during the same time frame, ICE agents only arrested 267 illegal immigrants.

Authorities commented on the recent change of pace.

Were still focusing on criminals, but were not confined to them, ICEs Assistant Field Director in San Diego, Clinton Johnston told the San Diego Union-Tribune. Its the ability for us to enforce the law across the board.

All were trying to do is protect the community and remove the threats, ICE San Diego Field Director for Enforcement and Removal Operations Greg Archambeault said.

Southern California, in particular, has been hit with a decade-long wave of immigration, violence and foreign cartel issues.

In a recent study by the Pew Research Center, researchers found that at least a million illegal immigrants live in southern California, as Breitbart Texas reported.

For San Diego, based on 2014 estimates, at least 170,000 illegal immigrants live in the region, while at least 120,000 illegal immigrants live in the San Jose area. Those figures are expected to be significantly higher than actually reported as the figures were taken before the Obama Administration decreased enforcement of immigration.
