Internet Marketing Definition | What is Internet Marketing?

Also referred to as online marketing, internet marketing is the process of promoting a brand or business and its products or services to customers through digital channels such as search engines, email, websites, and social media. Its used to help drive traffic, leads, and sales for the business. The term is all-inclusive and includes a wide range of types, strategies, and tactics to engage with customers.

Theres a myriad of internet marketing types that encompass different tactics and strategies, and the types listed below are not exhaustive. These types of marketing complement one another and are most effective when used together.

SEO is the process of adjusting a website and digital content to improve its organic or natural placement in search rankings. The higher a webpage ranks, the more likely it is to be viewed by a potential customer. Search engines (specifically Google) use crawler bots (sometimes called spiders) to crawl the internet and build an index of the content available online. When a user searches a keyword, the search engine will provide the most relevant information.

There are two types of SEO: on-page and off-page. On-page SEO is the manipulations made directly to a web page to increase search engine ranking. It involves optimizing HTML code, content quality, and content structure. Off-page SEO is the SEO practices that take place outside of the website itself, such as backlinks, link relevancy, and social signals.

Content marketing is the creation and distribution of relevant online content in a way thats strategically designed to attract and convert consumers. It focuses on communicating with customers rather than selling and is usually better received. Forms of content marketing include blog posts, infographics, ebooks, podcasts, case studies, and webinars.

Social media marketing is the use of social media platforms to improve customer engagement and promote a brand. While it doesnt necessarily drive sales, social media marketing increases engagement, builds links, and expands brand awareness. Popular social media platforms used for marketing include Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

One of the newer types of internet marketing, influencer marketing uses influencers, or someone with a large social following, to promote their product or service for a price. This can be highly effective if the influencer is in line with a companys values and resonates with the companys customers.

Email marketing is the process of using email to send direct marketing messages to consumers in an attempt to gain new customers and retain existing ones. Its one of the most cost effective types of marketing and can be used to reach both a wide network of customers or a very niche one.

Affiliate marketing describes any revenue-sharing plan where an online automated marketing program lets bloggers and website owners place an advertisers banner ads, buttons, or other advertising media on their own website. This could also be in the form of promoting a product through a blog or video. A payment is received for every sale made through a link.

Paid advertising is when advertisers pay to show their advertisements of search engines and other online platforms. This is often referred to as Pay Per Click (PPC), meaning advertisers will pay a fee each time a user clicks on one of their ads. However, advertisers are now charged in different ways depending on their marketing objectives. Other means of charging include cost per thousand impressions, cost per view, and cost per action.

A strong internet marketing strategy can attract new customers and create consumers who are loyal to your brand. Strategies include investing in creating a user-friendly website, optimizing your website for search engines to increase traffic, creating social media campaigns that build customer engagement, and writing press releases to increase online coverage.

Lior Poly on the Ins and Outs of Affiliate Marketing – Datasource Hub

Companies that have something to sell, i.e., Advertisers, meet with companies that know how to sell their products, i.e., Publishers through affiliate marketing networks. According to Lior Poly, these networks work on a performance basis such that payment is only made when a sale is generated. When the affiliate network generates a deal for you, you award them and they, in turn, pay their publishers for generating sales on your behalf.

However, Lior Poly says that not every product or service will work with an affiliate campaign. Affiliate networks will turn down your offer unless you meet specific criteria. For instance, you need to present a low-risk bargain for individual product sales that will attract customers, like free services for a month or a free trial on a product. Until you have experience in internet marketing, Lior Poly advises against affiliate networks due to their volatile and risky nature that stems from both the performance-based environment they provide and the marketing power available.

Lior discusses some of the risks that come with affiliate Networks:

Affiliate Network Marketing Risk:

1. Insufficient business. You have channeled a lot of time and resources into building a campaign, website design, bulking up your sales staff, and commissioning marketing creatives. However, your offer is not a moneymaker for the publishers, and they are not marketing your campaign. Your anticipation of increased sales thus never materializes.

2. Overwhelming business. The publishers love your offer so much that the sales are flowing in faster than you can handle. The publishers are generally generating more sales than your pocketbook can hold out, and all this business is overwhelming you.

3. Dishonest networks. Sometimes your marketing campaign could be generating a lot of leads but not making sales. The tips coming in are invalid credit card numbers, people who only signed up for free giveaways, gifts, and disconnected phone numbers. Yet, the publishers are submitting fake information to get paid.

Alternatively, some affiliate marketing networks can request that they be the only marketing networks that can provide your offer to the world. This is known as an Exclusive Affiliate network campaign, and Lior talks about some of the advantages and disadvantages of having your campaign run exclusively.

Exclusive Affiliate Network Campaign Advantages:

1. Time-Saving. You dont have to seek new networks, marketing creatives and organize campaign launches as your affiliate marketing campaign manager manages your account for you.

2. Cost-efficient. You will not incur any startup fees or sign contracts for the networks that your manager passes your campaign on to.

3. Increased sales or lead flow. Most affiliate marketing networks prioritize their exclusive campaigns, and therefore, your brand is likely to get more visibility due to publishers and advertisers particular attention.

Exclusive Affiliate Network Campaign Disadvantages:

The risks that come with affiliate network marketing are many and significant. Lior Poly says that you must think on your feet and develop solutions for an offer that favors everyone if you want enormous financial rewards.

Fortification continues at Ghazipur, MHA official says no further ban on internet – Mint

GHAZIABAD :Stringent security continued on Wednesday at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border, one of the key protest sites where thousands of farmers are camping with a demand that the Centre repeal the new agri-marketing laws enacted last September.

Internet services remained disrupted for the fifth day at the site on Delhi's outskirts where protesters are occupying a stretch of the Delhi-Meerut highway since November, even as a Ghaziabad Police officer told PTI that online connectivity has been restored but there could be glitches.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs had announced the suspension of internet services at the three border points of Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur and their adjoining areas from 11 pm on January 29 effective till 11 pm on January 31.

Later it extended the suspension till 11 pm on February 2.

There has been no further extension of internet suspension at these sites as of now," a Home Ministry official said on Wednesday.

BKU's Meerut zone president Pawan Khatana said the internet was inaccessible at Ghazipur early on Wednesday till the time he left for a mahapanchayat in Haryanas Jind with union leader Rakesh Tikait and other supporters.

Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police (City 2) Gyanendra Singh told PTI, Internet services have been restored but there could be glitches or slow speed due to crowd at the protest site."

Iron nails studded on roads, multi-layer iron and concrete barricades, concertina wires remained fixed as large number of security personnel were deployed as fortification of Ghazipur continued to prevent protesters' movement to Delhi.

On the security apparatus at the protest sites, Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava had Tuesday told media, We have only strengthened the barricading so that it is not broken again."

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at the Delhi borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, demanding a rollback of the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

The protesting farmers have expressed the apprehension that these laws would pave the way for the dismantling of the minimum support price (MSP) system, leaving them at the "mercy" of big corporations.

However, the government has maintained that the new laws will bring better opportunities to farmers and introduce new technologies in agriculture.
