Isle Of Man Lures Another Gaming Company

23 February 2012

The Isle of Man government has welcomed the successful application of TWLV for a license to operate a new online bingo site from the island.

The company launched its 'TWLV' offering on January 2012, and it is now open to the public.

Commenting on the launch, Ab Olde-Scheper, Head of TWLV Gaming Ltd, said:

"TWLV offers players an exciting new bingo game with a completely new approach which is refreshingly transparent and has an exceptionally high return, as well as the largest chance of winning compared to any game of chance of its kind."

The company said its decision to select the Isle of Man was because ?the island offers large telecoms capacity, first-class data centres, skilled professionals, world-class regulation and a business friendly and supportive government.?

Alex Downie, the Department of Economic Development?s Political Member with responsibility for e-Gaming, added:

"I am pleased that TWLV Gaming has announced the launch of their novel new website. In addition this showcases the island?s success as a leading jurisdiction for gaming companies due to its excellent reputation in regulation and support. The Isle of Man offers an ideal environment for TWLV to develop its business."

TWLV's decision to form operations in the territory follows closely after the decision of industry leader Playtech which applied for a license in February.

According to the government, operators seeking to establish operations in the territory benefit from a benign and simple tax environment, which offers exemptions from Capital Gains Tax; low personal income tax rates of between 10 and 20% and low betting and gaming duty.

The territory is also UK 'White List' accriedted; is a Tier 1 regulated island; and has a history of stability and security. A number of grants are also available such as government funding of up to 40% towards relocation costs, marketing, hardware and software; and annual government funding of to 50% available for training.

The island also benefits from a highly-skilled workforce; world-class telecoms infrastructure including: two self-hearing rings serving the Isle of Man; 1.2 terra bits capacity 0.02% utilisation; and anti-DDOS attack technology.

Tea Dance

by Isle of Man Constabulary

On Friday 2ndMarch 2012 between 2pm and 4pm The Ginger Hall Public House, Sulby Bridge will be the venue for a Tea Dance for members of Age Concern on the Island.  This project has come together as a result of the Isle of Man Constabulary's Community Engagement project in the North of the Island.  We have established links with different sectors of the Island’s community and built strong relationships so that the elderly or disabled are given good service by the Isle of Man Constabulary.

Within the north of the island, great steps have been made working with those who have physical and sensory disabilities and older people.  This has built trust and as a result people who have had problems in their personal lives have discussed them with the team and this has resulted in successful Criminal Investigations and also confidence that the Police are there to help people.  PC 12 GILES has also recently performed an abseil over Maughold Head, raising around £400.00 for Age Concern and Residential Homes in the North of the Island.  She wishes to thank her colleagues and generous members of the public for their donations.

Helen Champion is the Services Manager for Age Concern Day Care Centres.  Gary Compsty is licensee of the Ginger Hall and he wishes to give something back to the community.  He is supporting our group and has kindly offered to sponsor the first tea dance.  We will be considering having a regular event and would like to hear from

PC GILES will say “Our message is to people within the Community in the North of the Island to get in touch with PC GILES or Helen Champion if you are or know someone who is alone, lonely or in need of a little TLC. If only one person benefits from this then our team will have proved successful”.

Isle Of Man Highlights Vehicle Tax Portal

21 February 2012

The Isle of Man's Department of Infrastructure has reminded taxpayers of the online portal set up in November 2011 to ease the process of annual vehicle duty payment.

The taxation of motor vehicles in the Isle of Man is solely imposed via vehicle registration duties, which must be paid each year a motor vehicle is used or kept on any public road in the Isle of Man.

The online portal, which is in its pilot year, will allow around 70% of island taxpayers the opportunity to renew their licenses online. Uptake so far has been limited according to the island's Minister of Infrastructure, David Cretney, with 8% of licenses renewed in December done so online.

Cretney said: ?I would encourage as many people as possible to try the new facility. An initial registration is required, but thereafter the procedure is straightforward.?

Those eligible to use the scheme will be issued with a special code alongside their vehicle duty reminder to allow taxpayers to sign up to the scheme. Payment is otherwise available by the traditional methods, by post or via the Post Office.

ATL Press Release – Review Cuts to Education

by Andrew Shipley

Andrew Shipley, ATL Isle of Man Branch Secretary says the news about cuts across the education service are a real blow to all involved in education and fly in the face of the high regard we supposedly put on it in the Isle of Man.  “The Department of Education and Children is in an impossible position. Statutory provision must be maintained and for cuts to be made the axe has to fall on non-statutory areas which include the library services, pre-school provision and the Primary Modern Languages.  It is now up to politicians to show some leadership and resolve, to say no and reverse these decisions”.  The ATL recognises that cuts have to be made but there are other areas, which have less of a social impact.  “Staff are devastated by the decisions that have been made and the ATL echoes the IOMTUC call that “if government has any social conscience at all, it will stop proposing cuts in inappropriate areas of public spending””.

“Instead of cutting the pre-school services, these should be extended to enable the economically active population to get on with the jobs that bring income to the island”.  “These cuts will disproportionately hit women, the vulnerable and the less well off”.  “Aspects of education, such as playing an instrument will become the preserve of those who can pay”.
The ATL is concerned, not only for the immediate future but also in the long term.  “While politicians may see the difficulties we face now, the longer term implications of their decisions need to be considered.  What will the effect be when these children, affected by the closure of nurseries, get to secondary school?  How will reducing the staffing at “Health Education” affect the physical and sexual health of our young people, and what cost will there then be to health and social care budgets?  Can we truly say that we aspire to be a global player when we cut back on provision for modern foreign languages?  What does the decision about the libraries say about us as a civilised country and the high regard we should have for the written word?  “Possibly another body can show some leadership and take on responsibility for the library service instead of it being a government funded service?”

The English coalition government recognises the importance of nursery education and in spite of massive budget problems has found the money to extend provision to 15 hours per week, while we are reducing our publically funded provision.  The ATL calls on the Government to find the money, delay the changes, look at the issues carefully and thoroughly and make appropriate provisions so that if changes have to come in they can be properly managed without the uncertainty and angst that is faced at present.
