Although there was no winner on the scoreboard, the Osceola Kowboys had reason to feel good about themselves after tying Lake Gibson, 14-14, Friday in the spring game at Kowboys field.
Harrison, who carried 21 times for 155 yards and was 4-of-8 for 19 yards and one touchdown passing, led an OHS attack that amassed 319 yards, 300 of those on the ground.
The Kowboys played mistake-free football, except for one play that cost them a win. On third and goal at the Braves 1 with just over a minute to play, Harrison was stuffed on a QB sneak. He bounced back and tried to lateral to keep the play alive, but the ball was kicked into the end zone where Lake Gibson recovered for a touchback.
The teams agreed not to play overtime.
Osceola Coach Doug Nichols applauded Harrisons effort in trying to keep the lateral play alive.
Why would I criticize a player for giving an extra effort? Nichols said. He ran a play the wrong way and picked up 30 yards earlier in that drive. Thats when you probably should criticize him, but hes a player that makes things happen. You take the good with the bad.
The Kowboys, who played without several injured players, including running back Scooter Fagan who is being counted on to provide big plays next season, displayed impressive depth in the backfield.
Rising sophomore Laderrien Wilson (11-61) looked like a between the tackles monster, and rising junior Treyvon Simmons blasted up the middle for 30 yards on Osceolas last drive to set up a first-and-goal.
Akiel Hamilton and Edtwain Black also kept drives alive with elusive moves.
