The Joomla hosting directory tested all hosts along the three main criteria that distinguish a good hosting service speed, security and support for Joomla sites. Additional Joomla-related services were also evaluated as indicators of the added value that customers might get for their money. Such services include Joomla installation, Joomla auto-updates, backups, special Joomla resources, and more.

The first test Joomla Hosting Directory conducted was a resilience and speed test. It aims at showing which of the hosts were actually able to handle the so-called Slashdot effect - a large number of requests towards a Joomla website in a short period of time. The fastest host with more than 7000 successful requests and 100% availability was SiteGround. The second best was Rochenhost.

The test on security was based on whether or not the host has implemented a mechanism for isolating the accounts on a shared server. From all the hosts tested five had a way to isolate accounts SiteGround, Arvixe, iPage, Rochen and Hostgator.

To measure the level of customer support, the directory tested the response time and the quality of the responses given by the hosts. Two of the top 6 hosts delivered valuable responses with first reply below 10 minutes through their Helpdesks SiteGround and Bluehost.
