A Kissimmee man has been arrested and charged with child neglect after leaving three children, including a two-year-old inside a home unattended.
On Friday at approximately 9:30 p.m., Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on Granger Avenue in Kissimmee in reference to a disturbance and possible child neglect incident. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with Brian Byrd, 38, who indicated he and his wife were arguing, and she left the residence even though she was watching her friend's two-year-old child. Byrd told his wife he was not going to watch the child but indicated she left the residence. Also in the house were their six and 10-year-old children.
According to the report, Byrd began throwing his wife's personal belongings outside the residence, then left the house with the children still inside. The children walked approximately a half mile to find their mother who was at a friend's house. They all returned to the residence on Granger Avenue. A short time later, the two-year-old's mother picked her up.
Byrd cooperated with the investigation and told deputies he left the children alone for a short time to go to the store. Based on the information, Byrd was arrested and charged with child neglect. The investigation remains ongoing, with additional charges pending.
